Mrstarker: On the other hand, first world problems...
Not "first world problems". Basic civility. Why do you use the toilet instead of shitting your pants when there are children dying of malaria? Same reasoning here.

Bavarian: snip
+ 1 rep for you
For a moment there I thought the GOG Community was awesome and cool and above angry discussions like that...why do some of you have to prove me wrong?

Starmaker: Now that he's out for good, to promote rationalism and a sense of perspective, I'm in with a GOG copy of Resonance.
Thank you. Added to the list in the first post.

If "someone disagrees with me on the internet" is not a first world problem, then I don't know what is.

I can understand why you equate making a tasteless joke with shitting yourself, but it's not really on the same level. This is being blown way out of proportion.

I agree that pictures of dead animals are rather tasteless (although dead animals themselves can be tasty). Pictures of long extinct animals are a lot better. Dinosaurs are cool, and so are trilobites. I also enjoy pictures of imaginary creatures.

That said, I will not enter this giveaway either. But all the power to you.

You are concern trolling. Stop that.

See, there are a LOT of threads on the GOG forum. Threads like:
- which game should I play
- where can I buy more games I have probably never heard of
- game X is being released
- say something funny
- game X is seeking funding
- steam sucks
- drm sucks
- macs suck
- GOG released a game I am uninterested in, the world ends in 3... 2...

If you think that "first world problems" is a valid argument (it's not, see below), all of them can be dismissed with "there are children dying, why are you talking about irrelevant things! think of the children!"

But you chose this one.

And I can't help to wonder, were there any instances in your life where this practice worked? Have you ever heard of someone -
not doing anything at the workplace;
wrecking someone else's car;
cheating on their girlfriend;
selling a faulty product
- and then getting away by saying "first world problems" to the offended party?

If you stopped to think, you might have realized this is the way society works. Even people who are actually helping the disadvantaged in third-world countries have other issues to worry about, and even most selfish people can be disgusted by goatse. You do not stop pursuing other (supplemental) goals just because there's something high-priority on your list.

Yes, it'd possibly be better if people weren't bothered by dead animals, or functioned on solar radiation only, or didn't commit logical fallacies. Here in this thread, you have a number of people who have been disgusted by a suggestion to post dead animals, and who have decided that posting in a thread would be a more efficient way to process this disgust (as opposed to "just ignoring it" or trying to not be disgusted, or whatever). This decision is 100% compatible with any other goals they might otherwise have, on a spectrum from Borlaug to Goebbels.

You might notice that there is no other stated goal to this thread with which "not seeing a thread about dead animals" might potentially conflict priority-wise. If we decide that making a forum post will make us feel better and be better at curing cancer / murdering passersby / sharding purplz / whatever it is that we do with our lives, we are right, and you are inconsistent and therefore wrong. So take your concern trolling elsewhere.

You are attacking a straw man. Stop that.
I'm concerned nobody mentioned global warming in this thread so far.

Then I challenge you to present a different argument, which I apparently failed to get, in line with your existing posts. Because right now you're acting like this.

I never said that smaller issues should be ignored, because there are bigger issues out there. You invented that.

My position was that I consider this issue to be trivial. That is all.

Edit: to clarify, what I mean by "this issue" is the posting of a tasteless thread.

First of all, thanks and +1 for the giveaway, Bavarian! Also thanks to the other givers!

I don't wish to enter the controversy, although certainly Licurg's requirement to participate in his contest doesn't demonstrate the best of tastes. However, Licurg has frequently demonstrated their generosity with numerous giveaways (I myself have Sacrifice thanks to a previous giveaway of his).

As for your own requirement here you can read a post I wrote in another thread that I think that it leaves fairly clear my stance toward subjects as animal abuse and my love for animals.

PS: If it's possible, I would like enter for Resonance.

Our hippie treehugger pussy giveaway is finished now. Thank you guys for participating and sharing your thoughts.

It's a bit difficult, because not everybody did ask for specific ones of the games, but I'll sort that out. And of course it's always a tough decision who will be the lucky ones. I'm going to contact the other contributors now and as soon as I have their feedback, the winners will be announced.
On pins and needles! Good luck to everyone!
