So uh, this just popped up on Steam.

http://store.steampowered.com/app/336610/

Outcast 1.1 has been recompiled from the original source code and improved to run smoothly on today's computers. The main improvements compared to the original version are: multithreaded voxel renderer for higher performances, software bilinear filtering on polygonal meshes, part of the HUD redesigned to match higher resolutions, new high-resolution sky paintings, new launcher, native support of xbox gamepad, user-friendly controller configuration, a lot of bugs fixed and improved stability.

... Are we getting this too?
So you meant Outcast in the thread title...
;-)
I thought this was about an update for the Sierra game Outpost.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outpost (video_game)

One of the most hyped games of the early 90s with stellar reviews, which failed miserably because many of the promised features (even features described on the box and in the manual) were missing from the actual game and were never implemented. Sierra even offered buyers to exchange Outpost for another game from their catalog.

I was wondering if GOG Owners would get this as well... If not, I'll support it again... I was a backer on the failed Kickstarter.
If they make us pay for it a second time.... I will not be a happy jan

Wasn't Outpost 2 supposed to be better? What are the chances that GOG could get that series?

As for Outcast, it would be nice if people who already have it on GOG could get the upgrade. :P

Foxhack:
Hopefully GOG is just testing it, and that explains the delay, as opposed to willful ignorance on the developer's part.

The Outcast Facebook community page replied to a few comments asking about the GOG version on their news post about 1.1 - they said that the GOG version should be getting updated to 1.1.

Outpost 2 was better than the total train wreck that Outpost 1 was, but it was still a rather mediocre RTS game according to most reviews I've read

I too hope we'll get the Outcast 1.1 update here on GOG. The game is not live on Steam yet either, so maybe we'll have a release here later.
i would totally want to play again Outpost :(

Nice, I found the original a bit difficult to mod/patch up and play, hopefully this will take care of that stuff.
Getting the old version to run properly on modern systems can be rather rough, so this is pretty good news.
Excellent news!

The original game with user-made updates runs like treacle at high resolutions.

Updates to old games like this are always welcome - especially when they're free ;)

Nice... but as always, I still hope GOG retains access to the original version as well (as they've done in some other games which received a HD remake). Sometimes I just prefer to play the original, or vanilla.

I am otherwise fine with the original GOG version, but I think it uses some obscure resolution that doesn't necessarily display that well, e.g. black borders on all four sides. A bit like how I remember e.g. Dune 2000 (I think it ran in 640x400); there were ways to fix it for Dune 2000 though, using PowerStrip utility. And I think there were some some 3rd party resolution fixes for Outcast.

How so? I've tried the GOG version on three machines already, worked just fine every single time. Only on my netbook (ironically the one machine running XP) there were issues with the music.

And Outcast 1.1 looks quite disappointing, I must say. Guess the game didn't even get a fraction of the stuff they were going for with the (failed?) Kickstarter. Still, hope we're gonna get it here as well. I'm a bit worried, though, because the GOG version has a different publisher apparently (on GOG it's Appeal, on Steam Fresh3D - don't know if they are related).

Let's start with the fact that the default max screen resolution is 512x384. Already in the early 2000's I found some patch that allowed me to play in 640x480, though, and on YouTube I've seen a few vids that suggest that there's even been genuine widescreen patches already.
