chaosbeast: One of the first things they teach in media handling is to say it first and say it accurately otherwise others will say it for you and they might be wrong about what you want to say.
TheEnigmaticT: I agree; CDP RED should have been more engaged with journalists and their community when that story got big. We were rather restricted in what we could say until they did, and once CDP RED had weighed in, we were at the shouting rabidly and frothing phase of Internet discourse. And at that point, well, you can wrestle a pig if you want, but the pig won't care much and all you'll accomplish is getting muddy.
I guess my pictionary response (or this is what I would have drawn) would have been just distancing yourself from it by explaining the corporate structure much earlier. Corporate structure isn't a state secret (unless GOG has a shadow government off the books) and does provide information without being pro or con a situation. It holds off the rabidly frothing phase and if it begins, it prevents GOG from being on the mocking block along with the others and if someone wrongly tries to push GOG on it then the good will of the people will prevent it. And trust me, I've seen it happen in the forums.
Sometimes, there is stuff that happens in the world that's beyond our control and sane people recognize and understand this (like a freak frost killing bees in China which raises price of honey for X company in another country or the Geo IP thing) but it needs to be communicated otherwise people will quickly sharpen their pitchforks and light up'em torches.
