Lokathor: My beef with the game is that they're splitting the perceptions into 4 parts like that.

Everyone knows there's three parts to the Sixth World: Meat, Machine, and Magic.
avatar
kud13: the reason they give is that the two types of magic have diff groundings? at least that's the impression I got. It's been years since i've read the novels (my only source of SR knowledge).
Yeah that's what they're saying, but that goes against everything else that shadowrun has had written for it for "ever since it was created". Along that line of thinking, every tradition of magic would have its own world view exclusive to itself, which is dumb.

oasis789: Will it be like the SNES game?
It will be more like X-com or baldur's gate or fallout, in terms of interface. You'll have a party and go on missions, then execute tactical encounters to get the job done.

So, no, it won't really be like the SNES game, because that was just you being 1 guy.

i really wish they would make a sequel to the snes version someday :( heck after you beat drake it says there will be a shadowrun 2 :(
in all honesty I have no faith in this ...

Shadow Run was probably the pinnacle of RPG concept (either in Table top form or as the base material for a video game), but never could get it's feet off the ground in practical application.

it probably would have had more success if FASA hadn't gotten side traced with the Mechwarrior > Battletech stuff, but with out a ton of revision to sort out how the game mandated a epic level of commitment to play sessions despite the appeal being more in line with smaller / faster gameplay it's still never gonna really take off like it should.

... and now that FASA is sunk, those revisions will never happen on the simple basis that anyone beside FASA revising it will be seen as a degradation of the "true" game by the old school die hards.

god I wish this works out, but I just don't have any faith in it doing so.
It's so awesome this is at $700,000 already. I cannot wait to play the finished product and wish I could donate. I will buy whatever deluxe edition exists at launch for sure.

Shadowrun, both on SNES and Genesis, was my favorite game as a kid.
Why is everybody comparing it to the SNES game?

The SNES game, while not bad, wasn't a proper Shadowrun game to begin with. (Hint: Magic and cybernetic implants don't like each other). I always considered the Genesis version superior to the SNES version and from an old-school PnP players view, the SNES version was just silly.

the snes version was easy to understand for the newer fans of the shadowrun universe , genesis version is for those who already knew something about the lore. i still never can get into the genesis version with ease , love the simple but fun snes version .

Even today without any knowledge of the shadowrun world, you can just grab a cart of shadowrun snes version and infact finish the game with joy , i seriously doubt its the same with the genesis version, most people would get confused right way .
the videos i have put at the topic's first page can say it better.

just in case , anyone who does not know a thing about the shadow run games can compare

Shadowrun Returns just smashed through the one milion dollar barrier on Kickstarter! This is officially the third gaming-related project to do so, and the fifth project overall. All in the last couple of months. This is going really, really well! :-D

sweet with good people like you backing it , it was going to happen :)
How does the genesis version emulate on Fusion, pretty well?
They've promised a backer-exclusive mission in case they reach $1.5 million. Don't like that idea at all, I hope they'll change their minds.

They're releasing the level editor, I'd expect that part to be a non-issue and I'd expect the mission to be kind of side-quest-y.

EDIT: Okay the mission sounds kind of like a nice, story mission. Still, it's not the worst thing in the world, if you don't detest pre-order bonuses this is definitely not worse.

given the amount of people commenting "this is a great idea, but the content shouldn't be exclusive", I expect they'll make it public.

let's leave "exclusive pre-order DLC" to the major publishers, shall we?

Maybe a compromise would be to release it to the public for free after 6 months or so. That way backers get something cool but everyone can eventually play the story (which I guess ties together the old SNES game and this one).
How about Deadraiser.com

Resurrect your favourite dead celebrity! Now! Cheap! With a minimum chance of him/her being a zombie! But that's not all!
If you pay before midnight tonight we'll throw in a free copy of the necronomicon for free! Note: Act responsibly. Feed the book regularly and do your
part for Cthulhu's rise!

Sponsored by Lovecraft Enterprises & Polter & Geist Inc.
Is this one likely to be DRM free?. Bit confused as lowest tier says :

"A Digital Downloadable copy of the game, DRM free on PC, Mac, or Linux + one totally sweet, exclusive desktop WALLPAPER for your PC, Mac, or mobile tablet."

But FAQ says :

"Will I be able to download Shadowrun Returns on STEAM?
That's the plan. We have yet to determine if Backers will get their free version from STEAM, though. Stay tuned."
