One of my pet peeves is to see someone with a significant Rep score without an avatar. With a Rep of, say 20+, you've obviously posted on here a bit & made yourself known. So why no avatar? You look like any other GOG noob! And lets face it, most of us know each other by avatar alone.

So I propose that if anyone wants an avatar & doesn't know what to pick, just post here & we'll get you one! Admittedly, I may draw a blank...I only suggest avatars based on user name. For instance, I gave Hawk52 (or some other number) a Road Warrior Hawk avatar. But others can make recommendations too.

Have at it!

Out of curiosity, since there's no way I'm getting rid of mine, what would you recommend based on my username?

That's easy. Either the graphic from David Lee Roth's "A Little Ain't Enough" album. His name is Roth, and the graphic has a tail (even though it isn't spelled tale)....

Roth's Tail

Or his biography book cover, which is indeed a "tale" of Roth...

Roth's Tale
I always used old game avatars on forums, so when I found that GOG games almost always come with avatars I was psyched. People should definitely browse the avatars they have. My universal id is swahili for being cool and relaxed so I don't know what would fit that.
My avatar, if based on my username, would be obviously not a problem, I prefer to change my avatar from time to time.

The problem with that is that, as ChaunceyK says, we often know each other more by avatar than by name. When everyone draws from the same pool of avatars, this leads to many doubles and occasional confusion of identity. This already happens, and would happen much more if more people took their avatars from the GOG extras. It's not the end of the world, but it's true.
My avatar is my online "face". I try to use the same image (of different size and border depending on local restrictions and properties - though I may need to take a new photo since I lost the original and sometimes need larger sizes than I have available) so I can be identified even when I cannot use the same username.

:o I just got myself an avatar recently...I guess I finally feel like I'm kinda, sorta, nearly a part of the community now. Maybe.

Anyway, my avatar is the only thing I could upload that didn't entail enforced jpeg compression. I guess I would've liked something else, but I suppose I'm fine with this.

It's very... black, isn't it?

Is this a theoretical problem or one you've actually seen. Because I'm struggling to come up with any instances of seeing two people use the same avatar that weren't explicitly trying to cause confusion.

Heck, my avatar is a popular bad guy from a fairly popular game. And I'm pretty sure I'm the only one on the english speaking internet that uses it with frequency.

It's also intensely frustrating when people change their avatars every few weeks / months.
Fair enough if you feel like a change, but I find myself missing posts because I don't see the avatar I am looking for!

One I've actually seen on this very forum. And the avatars in question were from the GOG extras. It doesn't happen often, but it does, and would happen more if more people took their avatars from there. Of course, the number of available avatars grows with the number of releases, but so does the number of users.

I think there's four people using the same avatar, the first of them I saw was Uruk - a user with a "peculiar" personality - and I always have to do a double-take and read the username when the writing doesn't suit Uruk. I don't remember the other names now.

It's quite frequent in game-specific forums. Lots of them from extras, as Wishbone mentioned.

Yeah, Uruk is also the best example I can come up with off the top of my head.
