badatvidyagames: How do I download all installer parts in one click now? Or all goodies in one click?
One option is to use your web browser with a standard download manager add-on, entirely independent of GOG's proprietary APIs, as explained here:

haldrie: From what I can tell those scripts rely on the folder names being left as they are when originally downloaded to scan for what might be missing and I don't do that and I always keep the old versions of all the installers I get (which I wish we could always download old versions of them no matter what) and organize things my own way.
That's not the case. The adalia fundamentals script uses the Galaxy API to figure out which game has been updated on which date and sorts your library accordingly. Not 100% but a big step if you don't want to miss updates.

avatar
haldrie: I'm not aware of GOG Galaxy being able to do that or even showing any updates for games at all that aren't installed
Its is not. Galaxys flags are purely based on installed versions at the moment. You won't get any notice when a game that has not been installed has been updated since the offline installers in Galaxy are more or less just legacy installers for those who just don't want to miss them.
As Galaxy is the only official means now of downloading installers as one package, instead of multiple clickable files in a browser, more effort should be made to highlight the unofficial methods for this.

Especially for newcomers.

When I recently went to download the installer for Witcher3 from the browser, I was left horrified and shocked at the experience.

"I paid for this??? I paid this company to have me click 10 times at the files??? What sort of cruel and unusual medieval punishment is this??? etc"

Much later it was pointed out to me the existence of some of these user made 3rd party tools, which are actually quite nice and well made.

I don't know if those topics for those tools should be pinned, or what, but people need to be more aware of them. Now especially.

Flyingfluffypiglet: Yes I do have the unlimited plan, it's just my time that's limited, plus I tend to focus more on other more time pressing/required download and so my poor games get to be left hanging until last.
Well of course, more important downloads like cat pictures MUST come first....that's common sense. ;)

Have a good one and toodle pip/etc. :)

MarkoH01: First install takes ages since the installation routine converts your Galaxy 1 installation into a Galaxy 2 one. You need to have patience here. As I said, it is possible to install and run it on Win7 since I have installed it myself usinf Win7 ultimate.
No joy so far. I've also tried running it as an administrator. I keep getting that window titled "GOG Galaxy Web Installer" with the message: "Waiting for installation to start...'. That window remains there indefinitely until I try to do something else and then the window just disappears, but if I try to rerun the installer it says it's already running.

I'm only testing it on my GOG forum account which just has the default 4 free games which aren't very big, so I can't understand how this could take a long time to sync or whatever else it needs to do.

And if it would normally be expected to take a long time to install Galaxy on my GOG purchases account (over 600 games), this makes it an impractical download tool as I then can't quickly install it whenever I want to download a batch of games until I hit my data cap for the month. If I were to eventually get it to work, I'd end up having to then image the installation and then whenever I need to download games, just restore the image which is a darn sight quicker than trying to install Galaxy from scratch each time.

idbeholdME: Wasn't using it but this is sure to upset some people I guess.
It's the GOG forum, everything upsets everyone. Good riddance I say. The thing has been useful for a long long time.

You should create a support ticket for this. Maybe the Galaxy team can help you ou in getting it installed by evaluating the logs.

I guess that's what we get for calling them out on not caring about and hence not fixing broken GOG Downloader pages (read from here on and up to post #3269). Because automating the process of adding correct and working links to the GOG Downloader pages, or even game fora, is apparently beyond the capabilities or interest of GOG.

Unreliable and often non-existent update notifications, no or extremely belated changelogs (as in over six months or even a year late), no checksums, and now no download method that makes sure the downloaded files aren't corrupted.

So thanks GOG, appreciated. You sure do your best to make the lives of those preferring the standalone installers difficult.

I don't even have the energy any more to post in more detail, others have said plenty already, and it's not like GOG will show up to add another word; it's been a blue text popping up to deliver some Good News™, which if one doesn't frequent the forum won't even notice, then vanish into the sunset for a very long time now.

To GOG and those saying the GOG Galaxy client does the same - first off that's not exactly true (no update notifications for not installed games), and second and most important, it's ludicrous to install such a bloated (and problematic from posts I've read) piece of software just for downloading/backing up. Ludicrous.

The horror.

When I close my eyes I can still see the bodies on the streets.
Pretty shitty overall.

It will take forever now to stock on the games, and I'm really not sure what it's going to achieve for GOG itself.

Meh. I might spend less here now, but whatever. Waiting for the next awkward decision, I guess. This GOG dancing is beginning to get on my nerves though.

I wonder if it's worth the trouble to report all those regional pricing bugs I've been sitting on for months (and years) now. Perhaps if I report enough of them, they'll cancel regional pricing. Who knows?

(To all: This isn't to say I don't sympathize with those who this GOG decision majorly impacts, or those who have a better reason to be upset.....just that a few seem to like to whine over small potatoes on this and other issues)

It's not the end of the world, but coming from other distribution platforms, it came across as something extremely basic and unpolished, and leaves newcomers wondering wtf it is the way it is.

I don't mind some legwork with my gaming setups, and getting stuff to work. After all, I solely game on linux these days.
But having to manually click 10 separate links to download the installer separately? That was harsh, man. My mouse finger suffered. My eyes suffered too.

Then I learnt about lgogdownloader, a one-man project apparently, that does a better job, despite doing it for free. Wish it were promoted a bit more, and were more visible.

There you go again - you've learned nothing.

Belittling valid concerns and criticism, defending controversial decisions by a company, and just in general pretending that you don't insult people with your wording in almost every single one of your posts.

Pro-tip - if you have nothing to say except to flame and shout "stop whining! it's small potatoes! 1st world problems!", consider not saying anything.

I wish there were a cure for chronic lack of empathy.

Not walking on eggshells at all times(i.e. second/third guessing every word/sentence/post one posts) & being civil yet not coddling/protecting everyone from any thought/text that may seem bad to someone is not me(or anyone) showing a lack of empathy.

Showing some respect/decorum/etc is admirable, and should be encouraged and applauded, but you seem to want people to shut up and not say anything lest they offend someone somewhere.....which is not a fair request or realistic.

Also I already treat most(except trolls or those that are obviously trying to get me riled up or insult me) with a good deal of respect, even if you disagree.

Heck, in your case you could've PMd me and voiced your concerns in a calm/civil manner and I would've either tried to work along with you, apologized(if need be), and/or told you why I do/post as I do and we could've avoided all this back and forth.

(Lastly: I have an offtopic here and also offsite...I would appreciate it if you could post anything concerning me that doesn't apply to the topic(s) at hand to those like a mature adult, and not spread your dirty laundry on me[real or imagined] around in multiple threads)
