bansama: Of course. But not all SEGA games are restricted. We can buy Total War Rome 2, Company of Heroes (all of them), Football Manager 20XX and a few of the megadrive games.

I think the only reason we can buy Total War Rome 2 is because of that event they did with CoH2. It was kinda useless here as we could only buy CoH2. Many complained and shortly after that event Rome 2 was on Steam in Japan. Can't get any of the other Total War games though.

Also of note, not a single one of the available SEGA games on Steam in Japan make reference to SEGA being the publisher. It's like they don't want people to know.
You mean that the publisher section is blank?

An example -

US:
Title: Football Manager 2015
Genre: Simulation, Sports
Developer: Sports Interactive
Publisher: SEGA
Release Date: Nov 2014

Japan:
Title: Football Manager 2015
Genre: Simulation, Sports
Developer: Sports Interactive
Release Date: Nov 2014
Aren't all the "Classic" SEGA games on DotEmu DRM-free though? Like all the emulated megadrive/master system stuff

summitus: One of my fave turn based strategy ever , really hope this comes to gog .
avatar
bansama: It won't. SEGA Japan put an end to that.
How sure would you say you are of it never coming to GOG? I was going to wait and see if it came here but if what you say is true I might buy it on Steam.

Yeah, but only the ones available worldwide. Not all of them. The last set that was mainly JRPGs is not available on there, nor is it available on Steam in Japan.

Completely. It's originally a SEGA Japan game, so they hold the distribution rights and will not release on PC.
The game seems to be selling well. Hopefully 2-3 get released on PC as well. I'd really like an official english release of VC3 but still won't hold my breath on that.

Honestly, 2 and 3 got heavily modified to work on a portable system. Specially the 2nd one had some really annoying grinding on the postgame. I don't think that would work well on PC.
There has got to be a way to get these knuckleheads to get their heads out of their asses.

Just don't hold your breath waiting for them. It can be pretty hazardous.

Well, like GOG said in the community Q&A video about bringing Japanese publishers here, it'd help for the community to write to them. I do that every so often with all the major Japanese publishers. I'm positive they'll come around, the only question is how long we have to wait until that day comes. So I'll be waiting to buy these games until then, and the wait will only get easier as games like Terraria and Mount & Blade have become DRM-free. :)

Hah, agreed. Someday, hopefully.

Maybe. =/

Just give them another decade or two. =P Seriously though, I'm not holding my breath seeing how stubborn they are in their quite antiquated ways. First all those old fogies need to go, but even with fresh blood it's debatable if it's ever going to happen.

The problem is, Japanese publishers won't listen. Correspondence like that is promptly ignored. They won't even listen to the US/UK branches of their own company for goodness sake! So mere customers, whether Japan based or not, are going to get nowhere when it comes to contact the Japanese branch.

This desire for a lack of communication with customers is part of the reason why PSN remained offline in Japan for over a month following that security breach. The Japanese government wouldn't let them back on online until they had meet certain criteria, one of which was customer interraction; which Sony now do to the barest minimum with a blog.

For that matter, Square Enix used to listen to PC customers. It's why we have some of their games on Steam. But they ceased doing that a year or so back. Now they won't respond to any questions regarding the PC.

They can keep these on Steam, I'll buy them for 2$ whenever. Never have a problem paying full price on GOG, though.

It seems it went beyond their expectations even.
Sega’s PC version of PS3 RPG Valkyria Chronicles has ‘blown all predictions out of the water’, the publisher has claimed.

The game release on Steam yesterday and was at one stage apparently the most downloaded game on the platform. Currently it sits in third place behind fellow Sega title Football Manager 2015 and Activision’s Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.

“During its first 24 hours on sale, blew all forecasts and predictions out of the water. The award-winning Strategy RPG, originally released in 2008 for PlayStation 3, forced its way to the top of the Steam download charts, beating a host of brand new games to reach number one,” Sega said.

Sega Europe’s senior VP of commercial publishing John Clark added: “We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the fans for their support in the phenomenal success of this launch. We’re also delighted at the response from the Steam community which indicates that newcomers to the series are finding it as enchanting and engaging as those who have played it before.”

Valkyria Chronicles was first released on PS3 in 2008. Two sequels were released on PSP in 2010 and 2011 respectively.
