I think it was lucky with timing as well - the yearly CoDs and AsCreeds coming out that many gamers are tired of and all of a sudden BOOM - a good port of a console exclusive for a good price.
I think I'm going to pick this one up. I generally don't like console ports if they do not optimize for a mouse and keyboard but I've heard this has ported well.

(Probably time for me to cave in and get an X-box controller anyway.)

Yeah. The menu must be navigated with the keyboard (which is kind of a shame, since the book presentation, with bookmarks and big images as buttons, screams "use it with a mouse"), but otherwise it runs well on K+M :)

Thanks. Unfortunate that the mouse isn't optimized like I had hoped.
It runs in slow motion for me, for whatever reason. Performance improves at lower res, strangely enough I can run shadow of Mordor on this laptop. Weird, I'd blame it on the port, but everyone else says it's pretty good.

Anyway, my main grip right now is the translation. Since I've been playing VC3 lately, I went with the Japanese voices + subtitles. Problem is, the subtitles appear to be from the English dubs, and I know enough Japanese to see the subs are not saying what the characters are saying, and the contradiction is giving me a headache.
I can say that the controls are fine with VC on PC. Not ideal, but fine. I love every piece of it, so far, but i do expect some exhaustion due to some heavy grinding (completionist, so i NEED to HAVE those troopers mixed, maxed and waxed + the research nicely done and everything looted properly:P)

I can confirm what P1na says about translation. Too many years of anime taught me a few things about the japanese language and it kind of hurts to see that the game was relative poorly translated in english (that's why i love fansubs: those gents are trying to get a faithful translation and not a paycheck)

Pheace: It seems it went beyond their expectations even. Link
Cool. I wasn't expecting that. I always felt guilty for not having bought the game back then, which could be considered part of why it was considered to be unprofitable to keep the series going and the 3rd one was never published abroad. Not that it would have made a difference, by the time I played the first one the 3rd one was already out, but still. Now, with my preorder, I feel like I put my little push on the whole thing.

So what exactly makes them like that? At least the Ubisoft types make some modicum of effort to pretend like they care.
Jesus, i'm going deaf (i use headphones) with this game, what the hell was Sega thinking? All the cutscenes and in game mini cutscenes are loud and from what i can tell from the menu, you can't lower/rise the sound for those parts.... WHY? How does it even makes sense?
i remember seeing this for the ps3. saying hey this looks like something i would want. than i forgot about and forgot about it. than out of the blue it gets a pc port, which seems to be fairy well done and has all the dlc from what i been able to gather. while a ps3 copy is about the same as the pc in price, yet the ps3 is only the base game. While pc has all the dlc.

This seem to be a thing lately. I forget about it and than something ends up reminding me of it. the only thing that is missing is a 75% off sale.

If you want to know that, you'll have to ask them.

I don't know enough Japanese for that o be a problem for me. I DO notice some difference, but it's Okish (only disturbing thing is when I hear a grunt or sigh, or silence, and the sub is normal text.

My personal gripe would be the absence of sub for the battle chatter. Since every character gets his/her own lines for pretty much anything, and there is background radio chatter about the way the battle is going on (only for ambiance purpose. Important coms are subbed), my choice is either put the english voices for the duration of the combat (and even spoken english can be tricky, since it's not my native laguage), or not understand anything. Kinda bugs me especially since you have to get back to the title menu to change language.

But it's a minor gripe. Overall, I have a blast, even if the game is handling me my ass ^^ (First death yesterday on mission 5. Cherry's immortal words while she was being crushed to mush under a heavy battletank? "So lame... I'm like totally dying")
Think I'll get the game on steam and double dip on GOG if it ever comes here. But seeing how Total War is never on GOG, I'm not holding my breath.
ON SALE NOW!!! For all you cheap folks. =P

Argh...me hate you! I'm on a sacred purchasing abstinence and you post a link to my second most wishlisted game?! How inconsiderately evil, now I must quickly turn off all computers. Somebody dropped on us the sale!
