Got a GTX 970 today. Only need to replace the CPU and power supply now.

Couple more months. I'm gonna be ready. I'm stoked.
It's almost insulting when I see such "minimum requirements". Such a notion is not supposed to be what allows the game to be merely turned on. But to be able to PLAY the game in question.

Witcher 2 barely chugs along and is only barely play-able using a Radeon 7750 card with a 6 core 3.9 cpu.

I think unless part 3 is roughly the same as part 2 in terms of the engine. Then...well...who knows, maybe the title screen is every bit worth the $60 lol XD
I upgraded my config few days ago :

i5 4690
GTX 970
12 Go Ram (8go of the new config and 4 from my old computer)

I think i can get Witcher 3 on Ultra and i hope i'll be pretty high with Cyberpunk 2077

You mean augmentations?:)
Still waiting to see the final product.
And than its a question about paying for a PS4.
I have just bought a new pc, and i wonder if it can run Witcher 3. Specs are
i7-4710HQ (2,5 , but can run up to 3, 5, it is claimed)
Nvidia GeForce GT 840M(with 2 gb ram)
8 gb ram DDR3
res 1920 x 1080 (Full HD)

After comparing my specs with the ones recommended on Witchers page, I see that a problem might be the graphics card. The one i have, is GT, not GTX. Since I, up to now, mainly have played old games, I am not so knowledgeable about how GT compares to GTX, I know that the GTX is better, so If somebody want to teach me more, Id be grateful.

Unfortunately its not simply a matter of GT vs. GTX as GT 840M is a mobility edition notebook card while the minimum required is GTX 660 a desktop GPU. Here is a comparison which clearly shows that GT 840M is unable to perform anywhere near the same level as GTX 660.

oh.. I was afraid that might be the answer... I guess Ill have to wait to play the game at a later date, then,
Thanks for the link, I am in the process of learning more about newer computers, and that page is exactly what I have been looking for.

No problem, if you have any other questions then do let me know. It is not uncommon to be unable to play these graphically demanding games at launch, I hope you get to play the game sooner rather then later. :)

As stg83 said, mobile GPUs are generally much less potent than their desktop counterparts. I don't know how much power this particular GPU has, but it definitely won't produce decent framerates in Full HD/ 1080p. You might be OK if you set the resolution of the game to 720p and/or turn the quality and details setting down to a mix of Medium & Low. The CPU and RAM should be fine.

Edit: Checked out the performance comparison in the link, and indeed this GPU seems much slower than the GTX 660. The biggest disadvantage is probably the outdated DDR3 RAM. On the plus side, it seems to be a fairly new GPU, so it probably supports many modern rendering technologies, at least in theory.

I still think W3 might be doable, at 720p, low settings and some ~30+ frames per second. Of course, it's up to you whether you would find that enjoyable. If you're mostly playing for the story and characters and not so much for the eye candy, you might still have fun with it.

I learned a lot from that page, mainly that my next computer is not going to be a laptop, and that even if the seller claims it is a good gaming laptop, thats not necessarily true :-) It is still good for much of the other games that I play, but if I want to play big, new, demanding games, I must have something else, with newer ram and bigger graphics card. Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it :-)
All I really care about is if it'll run just as well on AMD cards as an equivalent Nvidia gpu.
The amount of nvidia software tech being used is worrying.

It seems I may have to wait to play it, I can try it when it comes out, but one of the things that make me want to play the game, is the wonderful graphics it promises. I have been a laptop-fan since the first computer I bought for my self, but old dogs can also learn new tricks, I guess :-)
you and stg83 have taught me lots of things to consider for the next computer that I buy, thanks for taking the time to educate this old lady :-)

I'm not an an hardware expert either -- usually wait a few years in between hardware upgrades, and then I need to catch up on all the new releases and technologies.

Next time you intend to buy a new computer, GPU etc. just make sure to read several detailed reviews first, so you know exactly what the hardware is capable of. Don't rely on just a single source of information. And if you're still confused, just ask for advise on a forum such as this one. :)

By the way, you could wait until release of the game ( or shortly after ) and then check sites such as youtube for video tests using your type of laptop/GPU. Youtube has videos for pretty much any combination of game and hardware, so it can give you a good idea of how the game will perform on your own system.
