That my lot in life would be anywhere near what it is today, for better and worse.

That we would ever see many old games 'brought back to life' and not forever lost to OS upgrades. Many thanks to gOg and developers / publishers!
Never knew how many far leftist's are at Gog.

Shadowstalker16: That so many idiots not living in the USA would care so much about who its President is

Vainamoinen: Compassion for the plight of their fellow people, indeed a strange thing.

But a whole lot of things internationally do hinge on American leadership and on its leader just as well.

Trump has destroyed the international spirit of co-operation. He is threatening, one by one, former agreements because all he can see them as is "bad deals". Trump has practically abandoned international diplomacy. He's brought a horrific uncertainty into the threat of nuclear war. He can't be said to have real "allies" any more. If he communicates with other leaders at all, it's usually threats and insults. He only ever seems to get along with dictators, but really well with those. He treats trade as war and hence threatens stability world-wide. He uses war to deflect from his personal failings and diverse criminal activities. He has given away the element of surprise that the new rocket technology could have held and helped the Syrian dictator tremendously because of course now Putin will supply anti-rocket tech to Syria. The lies, the corruption, the verbal weapon arsenal of memes and conspiracy nonsense that brought him the presidency is sweeping over the globe.

America has been, through Democrat and Republican presidents, a steady, stable and reliable partner in international relationships (Yes, in comparison to Trump, EVEN GEORGE WALKER BUSH).

Trump reduced that legacy to rubble.

And of course the American lead culture also has an influence on proceedings elsewhere. Shootings by American example have always been the thing. But America was also the leader and has led by example in battling racism and homophobia, in scientific discovery, in welcoming people from all over the world.

Now it's just trash.
I'm not sure about American-led culture, but I'm sure we all know international trade and military action is based around treaties, and America's role in them amounts to being a signatory with significant pull. Any leader can only do so much shaking up without changing the treaties, and I don't think Trump is gonna change the NATO treaty so every country has to join a war if its created by 'Murrica. Trade is not meant to be anything that is any sort of permanent, and a country reduces it to encourage its developing industries or vice versa. I don't see anything wrong with it as long as the country doesn't isolate itself.

Other than that, I'm not really informed enough to talk, but in general, I think the power attributed to Trump is overblown, and I certainly don't think he's already done more than Bush. And none of its laws changed to make it any more homophobic or unscientific (unless climate policy counts as law) or unwelcoming, the last of which isn't even the attribute of a country in the first place.

phaolo: Well, there are fanatics on both sides.
Also, Trump doesn't favor moderation at all..

Do you think we're not worried about Putin or Xi Jinping too? And we facepalmed so hard about Brexit..
The people who did good analysis still probably do it, but I'm talking about this kind general feeling that its everyone's rightful duty to oppose Trump and to do it by bashing him everywhere, regardless of context. Insulting a politician only goes so far.......

Shadowstalker16: That parents would start grooming their children to become another gender before they're even teens
That's not how it works. What happens is that the child realizes that they are another gender, and the parents happen to actually love their child (their *actual* child, not just who they think their child is) and allow them to express that gender. It's not "grooming" by any stretch of the imagination.
this thread is turning sour, in part because of me.

Let's try to avoid another "Battletech is Racist" mess and get back to things more pleasant, like I never predicted an expansion team would get to within ten wins of the Stanley Cup.

GO VEGAS!

Anyway, another one: That there would be a need for a March for Science. It really shouldn't be necessary to hold a "science is good" march, but it ended up happening simply because so many people in power are anti-science. For that matter, why are so many people anti-science anyway?

Ummm, I'm not the one who introduced politics into the thread. XD I certainly don't fault those who did, but could you please try to keep your obsession with hatting me within the bounds of reality? :P

If the only rhetoric register said politician has mastered with some level of proficiency is the insult, I'd say fair game.

Here's one that is not political: The fact that games have evolved in such a way that the following twitter thread, which is about games borrowing the user's time. Also, the fact that the Internet exists in a form that allows us to read such a thread posted by a veteran game designer.

Oh dt's post got me thinking, and this one is still kind of up in the air.

I never would have predicted that VR would, at least up to this point, be received with such disdain by the gaming world.

I have zero interest in VR but I always assumed that the second it showed up in an affordable mobile capacity, that gamers would jump to it, but everything I read and hear, especially in here, seems to indicate that gamers have little to no interest in it.

Color me shocked on that one.
