I really think so!

Yattaaaaaa! The Japanese Sale is back, bringing copious amount of eccentric NPCs, oversized weapons, emotional roller coasters and gravity-defying hairdos.

Look, there's something here for everyone: fast-paced action/RPGs like the acclaimed Ys series and the recent Tokyo Xanadu eX+, classic jRPGs like Cosmic Star Heroine and The Legend of Heroes series, satirical turn-based RPGs like the lovely Hyperdimension: Neptunia, and eerily sentimental tales like Higurashi When They Cry.

And let's not forget our lovely newcomers: Ys: Memories of Celceta, Shining Song Starnova, and A Kiss for the Petals - Remembering How We Met.

The Japanese Sale ends August 1, 10 PM UTC.

dtgreene: That one boss didn't drive you batty enough to quit?

(Anyone who's played Ys I should know what poorly designed boss I'm talking about.)

SirPrimalform: I do remember there being a really bullshit difficult boss but I can't remember where. Are you making a bat pun there?
Yes, I am making a bat pun there. Do you remember that boss that would turn into a bunch of bats, chase you for a random amount of time (during which the boss is invincible), then reform, giving you a brief chance to hit it? Also, when the boss would look like it's reforming, but not actually do so? That's the boss I'm talking about.

The boss returns in Ys Origin, but the Origin fight is *much* better designed; the boss remains vulnerable for longer (long enough for the boss to actually attack), and there are some new twists to make the boss more interesting without making it frustrating.

By the way, since you enjoyed Ys I & II, definitely check out Ys Origin; there are plenty of references to the original two games (particularly since it's a prequel that takes place in the tower from Ys I).
Nice pic.

SirPrimalform: I played them back to back last summer and really enjoyed them.

If it's the guy I'm thinking of who is pretty batty, I never really had troubles with him on hard. The final boss is what really make me want to fucking launch my PC out the window.

Ah yes, you've brought back the repressed memories. Yeah, definitely the hardest boss in the game.

I&II are the only ones I've played so far, but I'll probably try and play the ones available here in series release order (so my next one is Oath in Felghana, standing in for Ys III in terms of place in the plot even if not gameplay).

tinyE: Should I get the Samurai delux/DLC or just the base 3 and 4?
4 + it's DLC, no need to buy three.
Three wasn't as fun as four tbh, 4 gave enough replay value to warrant the asking price for myself.
That is if it's your bag, oh and it plays best on a pad, K&M is ok, but a wee bit fiddly.
Prob already made you mind up by now.

Cool, should keep you going for a long time, maybe you'll like three more than i did..
Steam has guides should you need them, if something scratches your noggin.
Or holla.

Starmaker: Do tell how "pay an extra 150% for not having to suffer through the shit gameplay" is in any way "right".
You link to totally optional cheat DLC that nobody but suckers, waifu hunters, and people who just can't play rather easy games because they're too hard bought and act like it was a necessary purchase for quality of life.
Nice picture of GOG-chan.
