I really think so!

Yattaaaaaa! The Japanese Sale is back, bringing copious amount of eccentric NPCs, oversized weapons, emotional roller coasters and gravity-defying hairdos.

Look, there's something here for everyone: fast-paced action/RPGs like the acclaimed Ys series and the recent Tokyo Xanadu eX+, classic jRPGs like Cosmic Star Heroine and The Legend of Heroes series, satirical turn-based RPGs like the lovely Hyperdimension: Neptunia, and eerily sentimental tales like Higurashi When They Cry.

And let's not forget our lovely newcomers: Ys: Memories of Celceta, Shining Song Starnova, and A Kiss for the Petals - Remembering How We Met.

The Japanese Sale ends August 1, 10 PM UTC.

tinyE: Should I get the Samurai delux/DLC or just the base 3 and 4?
its always better to buy base versions, unless they are on sale and difference in between base and SUPER LIMITED DIRECTOR'S CUT GOTY EDITION are about 1-2$

It depends on other things. I can do without paying for more cosmetics, but it sounds like there are other weapons, characters, missions on there. HOWEVER, those could be just skins which doesn't really make them new additions.

This is what I'm trying to find out.
Why isn't Way of the samurai 3 deluxe upgrade part of the sale?
I see a LOT of DLC there that I don't own, and some VNs I have on Steam that didn't get Connect when they came over and I don't want enough to buy them again, but this is another one of those recurring list of "owned" titles.

Both games are absolutely kickass and a ton of fun for many hours even without dlcs. I was sceptical about those games after reading that it's a sandbox and that the playthrough is short and whatnot but I decided to give it a try anyway and I found out that the games are actually great :D
Was Ys VIII ever fixed on PC?

tinyE: Serious Question

I've been on the fence about the Way of the Samurai games for a while now. They LOOK a lot like Jade Empire, however looks can be deceiving. For example, this is me IRL.

But back on topic, can any comparison be drawn between the two games?
Not like JE at all. Like the others, said, more or less action RPGs with an emphasis on replaying them for different endings/choices/better equipment/etc. It has a kind of permadeath, but your general run-through of the games are pretty short to help emphasize the replayablility aspect, so it doesn't take too long to get back to where you were. On top of that, some things save between runs (for example, in 4, it was possible to find your previous characters walking around the streets along with you being able to challenge them).
I see what you're doing, GOG: Trying to tempt me to buy the third Trails in the Sky, seeing as I'm getting close to wrapping up part 2 right now. Well played!

I suggest you give in to temptation. It's a very different game compared to the previous 2 as in....more combat focused and with a dungeon delving sorta thing. Can't say more due to spoilers but all i will say is that it wraps up the trilogy marvelously. You will not be disappointed!
Sweet. I own half of the games on sale right now. But this might be a good time to pickup Trails of Cold Steel II. even though I'm still replaying the Trails in the Sky Series and haven't started Trails of Cold Steel I Yet.

I've been wondering what Tokyo Xanadu is like. I've been wondering if others would recommend that game?

Also love the Mascot of the anime style character GOG has!

Waldschatten: The entire Ys, Legend of Heroes, and Xanadu series are great. Falcom is one of the best developers out there, and made even more unique by being a Japanese developer who *ALWAYS* does it right, as there are so very few of those.

They're a developer who demands their games be released here, no matter who publishes them, from Aksys with Tokyo Xanadu eX+ to NIS America and Ys VIII, and even when there's an Arkham Knight bad release like Ys VIII had it gets made right.
Do tell how "pay an extra 150% for not having to suffer through the shit gameplay" is in any way "right".

SirPrimalform: I played them back to back last summer and really enjoyed them.
That one boss didn't drive you batty enough to quit?

(Anyone who's played Ys I should know what poorly designed boss I'm talking about.)

Tokyo Xanadu is an action rpg but the chapter structure, dialogue events etc are more akin to Trails of Cold Steel.
It is also fairly long. It took me 102 hours to get true ending+afterstory. I was particularly thorough though.
The characters are very well fleshed out and the story has your typical Falcom pacing.
Dungeon design is a bit linear but it serves its purpose.

If you like modern Falcom games, you will like this one too i believe.

I do remember there being a really bullshit difficult boss but I can't remember where. Are you making a bat pun there?

Crisco1492: I'd go with the "Legend of Heroes" series, if you haven't already. I just bought "Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky the 3rd" to complete my collection. With it being on sale, I couldn't really justify putting it off, especially since I devoured the first two.
How does this complete your collection? Not interested in Trails of Cold Steel? It's basically the same game, depending on where your breaking point is.
