I really think so!

Yattaaaaaa! The Japanese Sale is back, bringing copious amount of eccentric NPCs, oversized weapons, emotional roller coasters and gravity-defying hairdos.

Look, there's something here for everyone: fast-paced action/RPGs like the acclaimed Ys series and the recent Tokyo Xanadu eX+, classic jRPGs like Cosmic Star Heroine and The Legend of Heroes series, satirical turn-based RPGs like the lovely Hyperdimension: Neptunia, and eerily sentimental tales like Higurashi When They Cry.

And let's not forget our lovely newcomers: Ys: Memories of Celceta, Shining Song Starnova, and A Kiss for the Petals - Remembering How We Met.

The Japanese Sale ends August 1, 10 PM UTC.
Shame that i already have all Ys, Xanadu and Legend of Heroes games but the discounts was poor anyway however i never realized how many junk DLC's Trails of Cold Steel 2 had.

I steer clear of the VN's tho.

Konrad: I don't think they're all too similar.

I played Way of the Samurai 4 and it's a super interesting experience, recommend giving it a shot. It's sort of a sandbox action-RPG with stunning attention to detail that makes it a very deep rather than expansive. There are tons of interesting but unconventional design elements, time passes and NPCs act regardless of your actions. I believe it also includes some roguelite elements which carry over across playthroughs (but I never got that far).

tinyE: I'd like to go in order. Is it a mistake playing #3 first?
No idea tbh, I only played #4 soon after it came to GOG and read up on the series, but I can't comment on how the two compare. As far as I know #4 was ported to PC before #3... it might just be that it's the more polished or popular of the two games, but I kind of doubt it'd be a mistake to start with either. They seem rather standalone.

tinyE: Serious Question

I've been on the fence about the Way of the Samurai games for a while now. They LOOK a lot like Jade Empire, however looks can be deceiving. For example, this is me IRL.

But back on topic, can any comparison be drawn between the two games?
Think Yakuza but set in feudal Japan.

Don't you have a boycott to be leading? :P

I played them back to back last summer and really enjoyed them.
But can I play as Vegeta?

Waldschatten: You, sir, shame the weebs.
Thanks, I always appreciate when someone appreciates my craft.

Isn't Vegeta the new salad shooter that guy Vince was selling on HSN?

"How much are you gonna spend on knives this year? Forget about! The Vegeta slices, dices, makes salads in seconds! You can't go wrong! But remember, you're gonna need to order now because we can't offer this deal all day!"

The stories and characters of the games are different from each other and are not continuations of one another, so you won't miss out on anything by playing them out of order if that's what you mean.

Pretty good little cult-classic gem games. My best friend and I played the series way back when it started on the Playstation 2.

Aren't you an angry little noodle.

Hope you find some fun games on the sale :)

The entire Ys, Legend of Heroes, and Xanadu series are great. Falcom is one of the best developers out there, and made even more unique by being a Japanese developer who *ALWAYS* does it right, as there are so very few of those.

They're a developer who demands their games be released here, no matter who publishes them, from Aksys with Tokyo Xanadu eX+ to NIS America and Ys VIII, and even when there's an Arkham Knight bad release like Ys VIII had it gets made right.

the whole Ys franchise is sort of must have (except for lacrimosa of dana, coz pc port is kinda garbage). 1st legend of heroes has 50% off - worth trying, if you are new to this title but like such sort of games. Xanadu Next has its own moments, but if you are linux user - game doesnt run under wine, at this moment.

Neptunia Series is kinda... well... only if you are fan of the genre or extreme amount of fanservice.
And Im completely against Agarest, cuz pc versions are censored to death (literally - some of endings are unreachable coz of that)

Ys VIII and Tokyo Xanadu still have the same price as in the summer sale, so I'll pass on those for now, I think (mostly considering all that happened around the Ys VIII port).

The Way of the Samurai games seem interesting, although the 30fps limit lowers my insterest substantially.

I'm waiting for Memories of Celceta today. Probably in 3 hours, right?
Should I get the Samurai delux/DLC or just the base 3 and 4?
