Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

No someone that just thinks they are because they dress a certain way or listen to a certain kind of music. They are generally pretty lame people :D. They're only found in bigger cities and/or suburbs.
Dammit, did not know was on the toilet xD and magrruner has escaped me, but anyway, do not think I would have caught.

And I think, the Brutal legend not think I have money.

dedoporno: Wait, what? Icewind Dale has a sequel?! Was that on the sale? Did it pass already?

Bring forth "The List"!

skeletonbow: All of the D&D titles are top selling items on GOG consistently and are in almost every major blowout sale event for 75-80% off. Usually in a bundle where you get a higher discount the more of them you buy, but you're credited for games you already own on GOG from past purchases or gifts so you don't have to buy them again for the deep discount.

If you're missing any just wait a few weeks, I'll be shocked if they don't put them all on sale before January. Last December I got all 10 of the AD&D games for $20 roughly give or take a couple bucks. (minus NWN2 which wasn't here until earlier this year). You can't beat that level of awesome easily. :)
Yeah, yeah. I just freaked out because I didn't even know there was a sequel to that specific title. I'm aware about the bundle deals and such, and already have almost all of the D&D titles, so I'm not worried at all. These games alone will take tons of hours to play through anyway, so I don't really need it right now.

Donjo: I think it was explained away once as a combination of fast servers and luck. The trick is that, when you're just sitting on the front page, the number/game updates itself every 2 seconds or so. Now, here's a situation in which it's impossible to get a freebie(or sometimes even see it):
Unfortunately not only luck, a poster on another forum managed to bag 8 freebies on Thursday only. Hasn't posted since then to reveal the final haul, probably is too busy playing or acquiring other games lol.

My answer was more of a lame try for a play on words joke. I do know what a hipster is, though ;)

CorranHorn: Yes I remember the dispute, good to see that they got it back, it deserves to wear the Arma title. I own the original on disc but that was before they did the expansion, will get this on GoG when I can afford it or when it´s on a sale=).
avatar
skeletonbow: I never played them when they first came out, but I am a huge fan of the Tom Clancy games and Ghost Recon series was my primary FPS for years. Just working on finishing up GRAW2 right now in both single and multiplayer coop. I played single player with the ArmA games a bit just to test run them for my post-GRAW TCS gaming and was pretty excited especially with the head tracker support. I will go through Cold War Assault first though (don't think it supports the TrackIR but would have to check) then sequentially through the others and their addons. I feel like I've missed a great part of the last decade of TCS here. :)
Graw 1 on PC was really good, installed Graw 2 just recently and plan on finishing it before the end of the year (hopefully).

I donated to Takedown and the game was a released in a very buggy state, it has really good maps but sadly it can´t compete with Ravenshield or Rainbow Six. Looks quite good and the gameplay is pretty good but the AI is killing it, they listened to much to the hardcore gamers. There´s still hope though, they offer modding and I see huge potential in the game, Falcon 4 was released as a very buggy game but is today one of the best modern flight sims ever made=).

Oh Man! So slow...That's Beyond Keane & Evil
So, I have Icewind Dale Complete sitting in my gift section. Anyone want to trade Planetscape: Torment or Jade Empire for it?

I also have Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection (HB steam key) if someone would rather that.

PM is interested - I'm heading to bed and will return in a few hours

RPGOracle: I don't know how you guys manage to get any of the free promos at all. I've been trying all weekend, have seen about 6 or 7 free promos come along, and for 4 of them, I clicked the promo the second it appeared on my screen (don't even know what game it was for, didn't take the time to read that)... every single time, the follow-up screen told me "sorry, this offer has expired".

Does it have something to do with my location (Western Europe)... am I too far from the main server to receive the offers in time? Anyway, I definitely hope GoG will come up with a better way to handle these freebies.
Other than that, I love the games that are on offer this weekend, and have purchased several of them (even some that I already owned in their original disc-based packages). It's a bit hard to find the ones that I am interested in, but they're well worth waiting for!

Donjo: I think it was explained away once as a combination of fast servers and luck. The trick is that, when you're just sitting on the front page, the number/game updates itself every 2 seconds or so. Now, here's a situation in which it's impossible to get a freebie(or sometimes even see it):

1. The last copy of a game sells 0.01 second into your "update cycle".
2. Anyone who gets their update in the 1.99 seconds before you do gets a crack at the free game before you even know it's there.
3. If every free copy goes before you update, you never even see that one was there.

Now, this is somewhat extreme. The more realistic situation is that you, and 1000+ other people see a free game. Everybody clicks at once. Chaos ensues.
There's more to it than that I think. There's something going on when several people are getting more than one free game considering the odds of winning are decreasing each time. Given that the most winners appear to be in central and eastern Europe I'd say geographical location is at least one of the factors that grants a massive advantage. Most of the winners further out from there seem genuinely surprised by winning a single game which would suggest this may be a deciding factor. Add to that the script jockeys (this campaign does seem to be incredibly script friendly) then the majority of people are effectively locked out of the freebies hence why they never even see the offer appear. Certainly in future I'd like to see some equalling out of the free offers, I want to miss a freebie through luck, not because my isp has a crap connection to a server in Poland :/

Although I'm sure there are tactics to maximize your chances, and geography plays its part, it still comes down largely to luck. I got a free game - the first one I ever clicked on. I didn't click wildly as the game image changed or anything. I had (a very brief) time to see the title and think "I'd like that" before I clicked, and I live in Australia, which is probably as far as you can get from the GOG servers. I clicked once, and it came up immediately that the game was in my account.

Since then, I've clicked on several more - fast and slow, sometimes multiple clicks. No dice.

Basically it's sheer dumb luck.
