Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

Did I miss Thief 3? Please tell me I didn't miss Thief 3!

zlep: How playable are Tomb Raider 1-3 these days? I've always avoided them, because I heard the control was clunky. But people say the same about Resident Evil's controls, and I find the game rises above that (though you'll still hear me screaming "Zombie! Turn you idiot, turn!!" while I play. :-))
I think it's still playable once you get used to it...people over the years got used to games like Devil May Cry or first person shooters where you can do unrealistic maneuvers while holding a 100 pound missile launcher. The controls are similar to RE.

trustymutsi: Crud... Somebody talk me out of King of Dragons Pass and Jade Empire. I don't need to buy any more games!
You would only play 1-2 hours tops of King of Dragon Pass and get distracted by some other game.

Jade Empire would disappoint you, because everybody overhyped it already and you would get frustrated at the very beginning with the tutorial and skip the game.

There. You asked for it.

skeletonbow: I am mostly a keyboard/mouse player, but I do have a Logitech cordless Rumblepad 2 here that such games might work well with, and if not I'll just use kbd/mouse. I've got a Logitech G600 so lots of buttons to assign to shit, makes games old and new shine. ;o)
avatar
zlep: I need to get something like that. I've got an application that makes heavy use of Alt - ~, which may possibly be the most annoying key combo I've ever had the displeasure to use. I'd love to map it to a mouse button. Mind you, the G600 is probably way overkill for that. About 10 less buttons would still meet my needs. :-)
A lot of people can't imagine how useful 20 mouse buttons could be. :) They say things like "just use the keyboard it has 105 buttons already" and such nonsense, but your left hand is already doing stuff on the keyboard and moving it all over the place means your fingers have to leave WASD etc. to hit some other key, which isn't too big a deal for keys close to WASD, but can still interfere with optimal game play. Having the ability to bind keys to mouse buttons you nail with your otherwise unused thumb, gives you a whole boatload of extra functionality available that can really make things more pleasant and convenient to say the least. :)

You can assign single keystrokes with or without modifiers pressed, or multi key macros which can independently issue button up and down events with arbitrary time delays between them all, optionally have the button act as a toggle and optionally in single shot, or continuous mode. There is also an optional mouse "shift" function called G-shift which if you assign it to a button (usually the far right button) it gives all the other buttons a 2nd function in case 20 buttons isn't enough. There's also an optional "mode" button you can assign and it lets you cycle the configuration of the mouse through 3 different modes that can have completely different programming on the buttons. You can assign functions to buttons also to start up other applications like ventrilo, or to mute your microphone, and just about anything else you can even think of. Whatever it doesn't have ready-to-use, it has a built in scripting language (LUA) that you can take fine grained control over the mouse programming and write your own code to do crazy shit.

I'm a super power user, just in general, as a developer and as a gamer so I eat this shit right up and totally utilize everything and it is quite awesome for me at least what all the extra buttons bring to me in convenience. ;)

Even just browsing the web I've got all the buttons doing stuff. The mouse wheel tilts left and right for "back" and "forward" in the browser which is insane useful, then I've got PGUP/PGDN/HOME/END assigned to 4 thumb buttons, tab left, tab right, close, undo close, refresh, ALT-A (for Allow on security popups), and CTRL (so I can use the Firefox zoom feature with one hand without having to hit CTRL on the kbd), and finally F11 for fullscreen. It's great because I can totally control the browser with one hand and have almost all the functions I'd normally need to fiddle on the keyboard to get all on the mouse. I have another 12 browser functions assigned by using te mouse's G-shift function but they're lesser used - but still awesome. :)

Some people don't "get it" for such a device and that's totally ok. It's not "necessary", but a lot of things aren't necessary and we get them because they make our life ultra-convenient, like a microwave oven or a coffee maker for example. :) I haven't figured out how to program the mouse to make coffee yet though, that's next week. :)

Can't say enough great things about the Logitech G600, I feel like a kid at Christmas with this thing. :)

Crsldmc: Really, any reason? I've not been too active this later days.

A shame, I was interested in them, winter sale it'll be I guess.

Thanks for the fast reply though!

Indeed, excellent games! also I'd love to get one of those, I can only imagine how it must be to put your head in the game, just like they say.

Thanks for the reply!

skeletonbow: Watch the demo video of ArmA with the head tracker and it'll blow your mind:

http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/03-enhanced-games/game-arma-2.html

I have to say though, watching the demo videos of the TrackIR in various games is amazing, but it pales greatly in comparison to actually using one in a game that supports it. It is an incredible experience! I bought the device for Microsoft Flight Simulator X Deluxe and a few flight combat sims that support it (IL2 Sturmovik, Pacific Fighters, LockOn Modern Air Combat), but found out ArmA supported it too and freaked. It's even cheaper now than when I bought mine, and they have a newer version out than mine. (Mine is the TrackIR 4 Pro).

It takes a bit of time to set it up properly and adjust it then calibrate it and wrap your brain around how to tweak it with hotkeys, but once you fiddle with it for a half hour or so and figure it out, it is awesomesauce.

ArmA 3 also supports it, hopefully that'll make it to GOG sometime too.
Just amazing!! that video sold it to me right away!! your recommendation added I can only say I'm getting it by winter!

It puts you so deep in-game you may find difficult to go out! hehe!

Thank you a lot for showing me this awesome device mate!

Generally I buy more than I can handle and my backlog is just growing, but as it seems I am far from alone doing that.
