Deals so good, you won't want to fall asleep.
You remember back when you used to walk into a store, browse the shelves, pick out a game, and then buy it--all in the actual real world? We don't know about you, but most of us at GOG.com have had our limbs atrophy to small vestigial nubbins since all of our shopping happens online these days. Of course, one thing that sometimes happens in real world stores with real world goods--particularly when they have a good sale--is that they run out of stock. Usually that means that the deal was so good that they couldn't keep up with demand.

Well, in the digital realm, this is usually pretty rare. How do you run out of stock on digital games, short of entropy devouring the universe? Well, we have gotten 101 games that will be on sale on the front page of GOG.com, but the discounts are so high at the moment that we can't just sell an unlimited number of copies of these games: we are only able to sell a few at these discounts--up to 80% off--and once they're gone, they're gone.

So what games will be on sale in our Insomnia promo? Bestselling classics and new games alike. There will also occasionally be some free games in super limited numbers (like, 20 or 30 copies)--if you're fast enough on the trigger finger to pick 'em up, that is. The deal will run from now until we're out of "stock" of games for the sale, and games may show up more than once. So it's time to bathe in a tub of coffee*, dip some espresso**, snort an energy drink***, or do whatever else it takes to stay up so you don't miss out on the best deals on fantastic games on GOG.com since summer.
*This is probably not a good idea
**This is definitely not a good idea
***This is totally safe, though****

zlep: Just to clarify that... Desura itself doesn't put any DRM on games, but they don't stop developers doing it either. Nor do they require any sort of info on the game page about DRM, despite requests by users for that in the support forums. Basically, they recommend that if DRM is important to you, you contact the developer first to ask if their game has any. O_o

Another potential sting-in-the-tail is that the developer/publisher chooses whether to put up a standalone installer for their game or not. If yes, just download and install. If not, you'll have to install the Desura client application on any PC you want to play on in order to download your game.

Despite this, Desura is great for DRM-free games - it's full of indie devs who don't want to put barriers between you and the games they make. But once in a while you get unlucky - I bought 2 indie RPGs (Dreamstate and Millennium) intending to use them on a PC that isn't network connected. Both of them turned out to require online activation, so I wasn't even able to install them. In the end, to play the two games, I had to re-buy them from ShinyLoot, which sells the same games DRM-free. I enjoyed the games, so I'm not complaining too much, but it annoys me that the dev effectively got double the reward by using customer-unfriendly tactics.

Crappynuker1: Appreciate your view on this, thanks. I can only hope desura will see the importance of giving the correct information about drm requirements to it's customers.
I will have a look though.
Yeah, don't let it scare you away. In practical terms, Desura is almost DRM-free. Oddly, RPGs with Japanese-inspired art seem to be the most likely to favour DRM. Weird.

Yeah MAgrunner.Apparently 8 friggin copies.
I don't know how you guys manage to get any of the free promos at all. I've been trying all weekend, have seen about 6 or 7 free promos come along, and for 4 of them, I clicked the promo the second it appeared on my screen (don't even know what game it was for, didn't take the time to read that)... every single time, the follow-up screen told me "sorry, this offer has expired".

Does it have something to do with my location (Western Europe)... am I too far from the main server to receive the offers in time? Anyway, I definitely hope GoG will come up with a better way to handle these freebies.
Other than that, I love the games that are on offer this weekend, and have purchased several of them (even some that I already owned in their original disc-based packages). It's a bit hard to find the ones that I am interested in, but they're well worth waiting for!

CorranHorn: Yes I remember the dispute, good to see that they got it back, it deserves to wear the Arma title. I own the original on disc but that was before they did the expansion, will get this on GoG when I can afford it or when it´s on a sale=).
I never played them when they first came out, but I am a huge fan of the Tom Clancy games and Ghost Recon series was my primary FPS for years. Just working on finishing up GRAW2 right now in both single and multiplayer coop. I played single player with the ArmA games a bit just to test run them for my post-GRAW TCS gaming and was pretty excited especially with the head tracker support. I will go through Cold War Assault first though (don't think it supports the TrackIR but would have to check) then sequentially through the others and their addons. I feel like I've missed a great part of the last decade of TCS here. :)
Wait, what? Icewind Dale has a sequel?! Was that on the sale? Did it pass already?
