tinyE: If you were losing 6-12 points a day every day for three months you'd notice. Trust me. :P
I wouldn't.

I didn't even know what rep was until I read this thread.

And I feel stupider now. People care about such things? Crazy world.....

Considering how many giveaways you've entered with rep requirements, it would suggest then, that you dont read many posts before responding to them if your statement about rep is true.
A simple forum search says so.

Stalk much?

I barely enter giveaways, and think I've given away more than I've received, but anyway...

Reading that rep is required and seeing the number, and knowing what it is are two very different things.

I never thought it out until reading this thread, and still think the whole thing is silly.

I like the suggestions of doing away with it and using actual purchases as an indicator of not being a leech.

Just questioning your exclamation with about ten seconds of my time was all.
Thankyou for your clarification.

I apologize for being snippy. It's a lot easier to be rude online. In real life you'd probably like me!

I'm not so sure. I once saw Sachy's throw a flaming bag of dog shit at a priest. I yelled to him, "HEY! AT LEAST LET HIM FINISH THE EULOGY!"

That was Jimmy Savilles funeral. It stands as a landmark in British culture.
'Tis better to give than receive, or something like that. If the system is going to track and display how much rep we 'earn' / receive, then it may as well also track and display how much - both positive and negative - that we each give. Show both sides of it, not just the one side.

And don't forget, the system says "rate this post", not "rate this user". Stick to that - which means we avoid stupid grudge-based clicks from a disagreement of the past - and the system will work fine. The system itself isn't broken at all. The problem is that humans use it.

IanM: Same old issues with rep, although sometimes I wonder if most of the abuse would be avoided if people would learn not to be drawn into prolonged public spats and not allow ill feelings to fester.

That said I'm still not sure what TinyE did to be downrepped constantly for so long!?

However, there are some here who really shouldn't be complaining, particularly the ones who take all the time and openly beg or ask for codes. If you don't like being downrepped for "no apparent reason" take a good look at your history on the forum and quit complaining.

avatar
Sanjuro: - each time you downvote a post your rep goes down by 1/5, so downvote 5 posts - and you lose 1 rep point;
avatar
IanM: probably not going to make any difference if there are people using multiple accounts to downrep
Well... :P

Actually i think the problem is the people down rep without showing their faces or explain why they do it. If they were obligated to do so, they wouldn´t abuse of it.

Law of averages. One man's bullshit is another man's gold. No need to rouse the lynch mob in order to facilitate a consensus. I think we're all intelligent men and women here. I'm sure a fair agreement can be made without breaking out the nails and crosses.

In other words... put the rep shit on ice. The only reason you care about rep points is because you think other people think you should.

Looks like I've got some reading to catch up on inbetween moving. I'll take a read back when I can as this is the first I've looked at the forums since writing :)

I have been hammered to the ground for rep loss before it began I had 951 rep and now look at me. All because I just made a joke thread to make people laugh.

And Appearently "Derailing" the GamerGate thread. Those guys are FUCKING picky. What can be discussed in the GamerGate topic that has not been discussed and made appearent already?

GhostwriterDoF: Welcome back... ;)

Another option:

4. You could start a garden in your new yard, and grow bell peppers, jalapeno peppers, tomatoes, squash and some herbs for seasoning just to get started. It won’t help with the rep, but it will certainly help with your dietary and culinary needs.
avatar
tinyE: This isn't gonna work. :P

I've resigned myself to losing 6-12 a day.

GhostwriterDoF: Well, yes, but you do have 3 extra donkeys.

It makes people jealous... :P
Unfortunately even though anything in the pepper family(the Solanaceae family has some great medicines!) will only last a few months in the area I have moved to, due to a lengthy and cold winter and them not being very frost tolerant.

Your post is where I am up to in reading this thread, and ironically regardless of my silly original post, I have yet to read this thread or bother wasting any time on an empty threat, as I have been busy packing and moving. I'd say that your suggestion will be one of the best ones I read here, so thanks for that :)

I like the synchronicity of reading your suggestion whilst at my friend's house; the person who taught me so much about plants and herbal medicine. Thanks to him, I cannot walk past a garden without trying to identify everything medicinal and edible. After years of doing so, I started to realise that almost any plant has medicinal applications, if prepared correctly, even some of the most deadly. Disclaimer: don't do what one friend of mine did, and put anything in your mouth without knowing what it is!!
A food and medicine garden is planned, and will be of far greater sustainence
