While we're at it, change the dumb forum system that marks the thread as "read" just because the op was downvoted.

I made a wishlist entry for that long time ago but it wasn't really popular...
The rep system needs to go. I don't mind the awesome stars but that number going up and down like a yoyo drives me nuts.

I've resigned myself to losing 6-12 a day.
You and me both. I stopped caring after I've seen it plummet about 100 points.

Well that isn't english... Korean or something?
As I've written here:

It's going on with me for quite a while now, mostly due to some opposing opinion with certain members in the past, I could give names but we should rather target the problem at the core and that is the broken system indeed.
Although I know of people voting me up, I'm losing a dozen rep every week (this week it was between 15 and 20 and it isn't even over yet) because someone targeted me again and votes down every post from me that he can find, including really old ones which should not be votable after a certain amount of time anyway.

Either completely change the rep-system or get rid of it and only show the number of posts under the avatar instead as it was in every board I know of years ago.

On my other board, there is a "like"-button where everybody is shown who clicked it and then there is only the "report"-button and this is creating a much less hostile athmosphere.

Changes could be:
- at least 50 rep to be able to vote
- making posts unvotable after a week or two
- small maximum number of votes per day
and most important:
- write the names of the voters in the post in some small spoiler on the top right for example
- remove downrepping completely and replace it by "post is breaking the board's rules"-notification to mods

Stuff like this killed my motivation to continue making big giveaways here like I did in the past and made me focus on a small amount of users.

It really should be in the "Features"-section of the wishlist.

Here's another one:

I'm of two minds when it comes to the rep system.

On the one hand, it has been abused enough to try and suppress "minority" views (not even "unpopular" views - people get downrepped by virtue of their being on the wrong end of an "arseholes anonymous" circlejerk thread).

On the other hand, I do feel that we need a system of incentives for behaviour in the forums. While rep doesn't actually mean much at all, if people suffered no penalty at all for inappropriate behaviour, then they'd just carry on being cunts until they get a forum ban.

Trolls tend to be discouraged more if their posts are largely ignored save for a big fat "low rated" next to their names, because it is equivalent to being given the silent treatment and then everyone turning their back on them. Without the rep, ignoring a troll would just encourage them to shout louder.

Generally, I try to limit downrepping (and encourage limiting of downrepping) to people who espouse politically or (non-)religiously extremist views or behave in an immature, fanboy-ish manner by openly attacking users in general of another platform.

I wish i knew! If this had some sense doesn´t bother me.

Can't we use a system more like the RPG Codex?
Voted.

As regards putting a rep limit on it, I would be disappointed not to be allowed to up-rep giveaway people or helpful people.
The Marvel Heroes 2015 forums are setup like this - and include other mischievous options for up-voting, or "side-voting" friends and foes. You would need to be signed-in to see the options and effect under each forum poster's comment.

It's also a way for the company to gauge the interest or appeal of a comment, suggestion, or policy point. In a way it's their substitute for our Community Wishlist beta - but ours is better organized.
