I never realised the extent of the issues with the reputation system on these forums until I experienced them personally. This occurred when I unleashed and retorted to an old confrontation with a well known member of these forums from over 3 months ago. To put it simply, the rep system is broken when there is a limit on gains but not losses per day.

I have just moved house to find that my rep (was 672) is taking hits each day, thanks to a few vindictive people. I have a few options available:

1\ message GOG staff. No point as they have far better things to occupy there time with, and my experience (after messaging them about this) is no, they are not 'listening to us', they are a growing business who wishes to make money and not look after children.

2\ ignore it and watch my rep go unto the negative

3\ exemplify how ridiculous this rep system is by manipulating it myself. I have no interest in raising my own rep but I know who is reducing mine. I've made enough friends on here to enjoy communications regardless of rep, but given 2 of you have over twice my rep, let the rep-percussions begin! No need to post my methodology, I'm curious to see how much 'playing' it takes to get even.

Yes I am vindictive with too much time on my hands <3

How do you know who is reducing your rep? There are a lot of people being hit by constant derepping and no one really knows who is behind this. So do you have some real proof on that or are you only guessing based on confrontations you had with people here?

But I agree on the point that the rep system here is very faulty. Sadly I don't think gog will fix it any time soon.

This isn't gonna work. :P

I've resigned myself to losing 6-12 a day.

Welcome back... ;)

Another option:

4. You could start a garden in your new yard, and grow bell peppers, jalapeno peppers, tomatoes, squash and some herbs for seasoning just to get started. It won’t help with the rep, but it will certainly help with your dietary and culinary needs.

Well, yes, but you do have 3 extra donkeys.

It makes people jealous... :P

Wait a tic! Eventually my rep will dip below 7 and I won't be able to post pics anymore. Now everyone would agree that I post WAY TOO MANY pics of my donkeys, so I'm wondering if this 6-12 a day thing is an elaborate way for all of you to get me to stop posting pics of my donkeys!

HA! I got you all now!

I voted for it - but shouldn't it be in the feature's wishlist?

Voted but at this point "Nothing" has a way bigger following on the wish list. :D
I'm right there with you. While I haven't been as active or here as long, I had a much higher rep a few months ago. I always try to +1 someone who's been hit before just to make it even.
Just remove the rep system, I'd rather it showed how many Games a person has bought. you see these give aways, where the giver will ask for min rep, anyone can get rep by posting once a day.

I'd rather give my keys to someone who has bought a few games.

Plus these upvote /downvote buttons, attract a certain kind of person.

To my experience negative rep is easy to aquire by having "liberal values"; or simply humanist / left wingish / inclusive sort of stance.

At the level of "ego" and "please like me, I wish to belong" I felt more than a little dishearted how much rep I lost on pointing out that Dethmold (TW2) was a negative cliché on homosexuality, and as a fan of the franchise I should have wanted to see something better.

But more than wishing to be popular, it truly and deeply hurt me to see such opinions, so hostile and unkind to our fellow gamers, whom are like us except homo. I simply could not follow through the thread, at the end. Wish I had been firmer.

This kind of negative rep is a badge of honour, I should like to think, because it was incurred for a right reason, not "the" but "a" still.

But I also ask myself, would these fora be of any interest if all of us having to fear for our reputation scatted off??

Most of the threards be about giveaways... Safe and nice ones, those, eh! No displeasing ideas that anyone might like to game away a bit differently... Or have an idea, a bit funny, different...

Is this substance over form, really? +one of the good accounting principle, IFRS, mind you! ;-)
Just so we are clear - I am NOT spending my free time de-repping you Tarnicus. On the contrary I have been spending my free time on a forced vacation this week unpacking my fig tree from winter storage, hanging out with friends I haven't seen in six months and playing at least 5 games from my backlog.

And to be very clear, since I haven't logged in to GOG in days, it appears the rep trolls are having just as much fun with me as they are with you - seriously, it is NOT all about you at all. In the end, rep is just a number that is meaningless. If no one had ever de-repped me ever, I would have five pointless stars by now - so what?

But what does matter is MAHAYO - something you deliberately and with malice aforethought circumvented very recently. As the mother of MAHAYO, I expect to be de-repped - children will behave badly when their fun over dropped codes is circumvented. What is your excuse, Tarnicus?
The first rule of Rep Club is: You do not talk about Rep Club. The second rule of Rep Club is: You do not talk about Rep Club. Third rule of Rep Club: Someone gets low rated, high rated, loses a star, gains a star the rep is dead.
