Judging from the things they say, it seems like they have a problem with me having my hard earned money in the first place :-P.

Arundir: May I ask, why you are buying PC games?

If ruthlessness and effectiveness are inherent capitalistic/right wing ideas when they are rewarding players of a game, almost every game is inherently right wing. Even jump and run games fall into that category, many board games would also fall into that category, many pen & paper role play systems and so on...probably even this game.

I think I understand now from where these calls for "games" without being a game come from...
And who says I am not Right winger myself? There are many different and conflicting definitions of Right and Left depending on who you are ask. Perhaps I fit multiple definitions? And besides, using such labels is ultimately pointless.

Perhaps I haven't been clear, I said ruthlessness and effectiveness are independent of both Left and Right wing political ideologies (regardless what lefties or right wingers might think). I meant that it teaching those things in (usually) political context of strategy game makes it perhaps a far more insidious than direct political message of a violence against *insert here* social group.

And as for me, I am amoral nihilist. I play games to crush my enemies, see them driven before me and hear the lamentation of their women (and to improve myself through the challenge). I leave things such as justice, politics and message to religious people.
How dare these devs release a game where the player fights against wealthy capitalists who "control elections, media, and the lives of working people" in a dystopian future? Don't they know socialism is bad?!

I want a game where I have to live under the rule of wealthy capitalists who control elections, media and the lives of working people, to show my support for them!

The "Area Liberated" type message makes me think of those open world ubisoft borefests. Might get way down the line.

But I am starting to get political, which I don´t wont, so I will just cut it right here.
Enjoy the game, if you will decide to buy it.

swires86: The black female at the forefront, possibly transgender, with the bat ... Very progressive and close to reality. And of course the evil rich villain is a light blonde "white devil".

Ancient-Red-Dragon: So why exactly was Hatred banned, but "Tonight We Riot" gets a free pass?

PaterAlf: Because quality-wise Hatred was a very bad game
This is patently and objectively untrue. In fact, it may be one of the best indie games to come out in the past half-decade. Unfortunately, not too many people realise this. Here's what you need to know to properly enjoy Hatred:
1) It's very impressive on a purely technical level. I'd argue that it has probably the best environmental destruction in pretty much any game ever. The unfortunate thing is: For whatever unfathomable reason they released it as an isometric twin stick shooter instead of as an FPS. Luckily, there is a mod to play it in first person. No one who played Hatred with the FPS mod on can tell me that it isn't one of the most devilishly fun things out there.
2) Even if you choose to play it in the "proper" iso mode, there's loads of fun to be had. Most of the complaints about the controls boil down to one unfortunate design choice: The fact that you're trying to aim with a tiny, white crosshair on a black & white background. Luckily, you can fix this in the main menu by increasing the crosshair size and by giving it a garish color that sticks out against the environment.
3) The edginess and misanthropy is played entirely for laughs. The game doesn't make this obvious from the get go and most players didn't stick with it long enough to see the ending. The mask does slip at the end though. There's also tons of humourous stuff in the textures, but again, since this was released as an iso shooter, most players won't see these.

The "Hatred is mediocre", "Hatred is bad" or "Hatred is very bad" memes really don't accurately reflect the current state of the game. If you were to give Hatred a fair chance, you'd realise this. It's a damn good game (I'd even say impressively good, if you play the FPS mod), especially for a low budget indie effort! If you want to see a similar game that is actually bad, try Postal Redux, which struggles (and fails, IMHO) to live up to the 20 year old original - let alone having cool features like the environmental destruction.

You realize that your opinion about the game is as subjective as mine?

Have to admit that the environmental destruction was impressive though, but only on a technical level. The game doesn't do much with it. And no I won't install the FPS mode to give it another chance. First reason is I don't like FPSs very much and the second reson is if a developer can't get it right I don't see why I should get third-party mods to fix or improve their incompetent work.

Besides that the game was just boring. It only tries to be as edgy as possible and that's interesting for about ten minutes. When it comes to gameplay there isn't much as well. After half an hour you've seen everything and you can leave and never touch the thing again without missing anything.

Hatred might not be the worst game ever, but it is bad and far, far away from being "one of the best indie games to in the past half-decade".
Forgetting the game's message for a moment and looking at the game page right now, someone please tell me how is this

"Throwing bricks at cops and making billionaires cry should be a much more widely enjoyed (gameplay) experience."

or this

"no subtly needed"

is a "helpful" review? Because they, and others like them, were apparently helpful to the majority of people who read them. And yes, that is all those "reviews" say.

First of all: looks like it's exactly my kinda game; wishlisted.

Having said that, at the time of writing this, there are 22 five-star reviews of the game from people for whom it's their first GOG review ever. Looks like the devs have a lot of good friends.

Mafwek: Unfortunately for you and your idiom, I don't attend parties - they have nothing to offer me.

But to be perfectly honest, I said that in frustration because every fucking time somebody mentions communism everybody starts using same fucking uneducated arguments and on both sides of discussion. And I am sick of it.
you just nailed the problem with about half the posts in the thread, thank you.
