Pretty amazing, sounds like they really care about this.

Yes, indeed. Although it does scare me that they actually used the latest build for the remaster since this means that the Sybill bug probably is in this as well. Afaik only the DVD version (at least the collectors DVD) is still bugfree since the bug has been introduced with one of the later updates (yes, it is in the TTG version as well).

Unfortunately the DVD is extremely DRM'd with SecuROM in a way that it won't even start anymore on my Win7 (yes, I enabled SecuROM before). I found an old thread of mine on the TTG forums in which I described the problem and that I needed to use the official SecuROM "diagnostic" tool which in fact simply removed the DRM from the executable of 1x01. However even then it was only possible to remove the DRM on this one episode ... now the tool can't connect anymore to the SecuROM server and I guess they don't exist anymore.

This means that the only way to even play/test the DVD version right now is on my VM which is extremely slow since 3D acceleration does not work really well. So I am about to play until the bug occurs with the GOG version and then reload the savegame from the GOG version with the DVD version to make absolutely sure that the bug won't appear on the DVD version (which I am pretty sure of since I tested this a long time ago). Unfortunately it is also not possible to simply mix the GOG/TTG digital version with the DVD version since both have a different file structure with the newer version using several ttarch firles and the older version using vox, aud and only one ttarch file. ttarch is afaik a TTG internal format so I probably won't have much luck extractingh this one either. So my end goal is to test the DVD and if it is in fact bug free ... to provide those files to the devs so that they can see the difference and hopefully fix the bug once and for all.

Best of luck with the investigations.

Just finished those and I can confirm what I said before:

1) GOG and digital TTG version (latest release): Sybil is missing after psychoanalysis and right before that she is stretching her arms when you leave and then enter her office. (Screnshots Sybil1_GOG_TTG.jpg/Sybil2_GOG_TTG.jpg).

2) Collector's DVD: Sybil is working perfectly fine but the version really ran like crap because of the necessary VM ... ever tried to dive with 10-15fps in a game? ;) (Screenshots Sybil1_DVD.jpg/Sybil2_DVD.jpg).

3) It is simpossible to mix those two and it is impossible to remove the DRM.

So yes, it is definitely an urban legend that the game was fixed on the TTG store only. The bug was introduced later and has never been fixed anywhere (maybe on Steam that I can't say). The DVD version however was created before they updated the game with this bug which is why it still is working. Since according to the dev they used the latest TTG build I can only hope that there existed one build that was even newer than the latest official one (which I tested) because otherwise the remaster will have the Sybil bug in it as well. I've forwarded all this to the devs. Let's hope that they are really trying their best - I did what I could and now it is up to them :)

Finally some good news for those who only bought the DVD version in a retail store and therefor can't profit from any of the "previous owners" benefits. ;)

I don't know about the ratail version of the DVD - I only own the collector's DVD which was purchasable for a short amount of time directly at the TTG store. I also don't know if the retail version does jhave the same DRM or if it has been created before or after the "Sybilismissing-update".
For people investigating old bugs: there's also the state of Ep. 5. https://www.gog.com/forum/sam_and_max_series/sybil_doesnt_appear_spoiler/post27

Well, as I already posted the devs won't really be able to patch the old version of the game at all. However they might find a version in which the bug does not exist. In the case of the missing Sybil I know that such a version exists and if I read the thread you linked to correctly it seems as if they also used a different version there to fix a game breaking bug. However in the version they used you can't run anymore - so it seems as if you only can chose: a game breaking bug in the episode or not running in the episode. I just tested my TTG version of Episode 5 and I can't run in this one either. Looking at the file structure here (which is different then the file structure in the other episodes) it seems that the version they used and kept in the end is simply an older version.

No way a comedy game gets re-released in 2020 without alterations to the jokes themselves.

Well damn, hope someone can inform us of the state of the remaster then, one would hope they found a way to fix it, or at least can once made aware of it...

*sigh*

None of those changes are warranted, it was bad enough they replaced Bosco for asinine reasons.

Okay, that settles it. Won't support that amount of pure censoring ... I almost bought it and I was ready to help the devs since I liked their reply but that is just too much and they changed ít for obvious reasons. So it's a lost purchase on my side.

There is still the solution to try a no-cd crack for the retail dvd version, but it's risky, as you know...

I know that this reason would have existed and I am not afraid to use it but I wanted to test this the way it is without the possibility that a cracked version could change my results ... that's why I used a VM instead. Regarding the possibility to "fix" he GOG version using the DVD version ... I doubt anybody would love to have a crack involved here.

Even knowing that the creator of Sam & Max himself was there the whole time, approving the changes?

To be honest, I doubt the creator was there. They probably just sent Purcell their designs and he improved them. I really doubt that he even played the remaster or was there when they recorded the new VO or made the changes.
