mrkgnao: Considering that there's a downloadable file under the remaster's API entry called "Sam & Max Save the World (2007 Original Version)", I think I can guess where they do intend to shove them.
That's a pretty good guess I'd say. Not perfect of course but at least it will not be gone forever.
ReynardFox: So this comes with the original version as a bonus feature... can anyone confirm if this is just the old GOG release renamed, or does it somehow fix the invisible Sybil bug?
If I did not misunderstand the original is not available anymore at the moment (except iin the case that you already own a key to the original) but MIGHT be added later to the remastered (see the post of mrkgnao). So right now it's only possible to test if they fixed this annoying issue in the remastered. However it might be a good idea (and I will do this today) to ask them if they could fix the original before releasing it. Remember: the bug has never been fixed on any digital release: not on TTG and not on GOG. They only fixed it on the DRM'd collector's DVD - so there's a good reason to update the old version and with the DVD already being fixed it should also be quite easy. This is not Telltale (which always had terrible support) anymore. These are guys that might want to make it right this time.
Edit: mail and support ticket to Skunkapegames created and sent. I suggest everybody who wants to get this fixed to do the same so that they see that we still care. The more complaints/requests they will get the higher the chances are that they will in fact fix it. Simply use this:
And already received a reply!
"Unfortunately we can’t patch the original versions of the game - those code paths and tools rotted away a decade ago and aren’t something we can reconstruct.
That said, the remaster started with the final version of the games that were shipped, so I believe the Sybil bug is fixed in the remaster.
If there are newer builds of the original game that fixed that bug, we may be able to update the old versions on GOG, but it will require some research on my part.
Again, we can’t patch the originals so no promises! That bug may just be stuck forever on that version on GOG... But I would like the archival versions of the originals to be the most complete that were made when the games were first developed, and if a fix exists that we can use, I’ll see what we can do. I will take a look. " This really looks like an effort to me. So there still is hope.
