This Summer Sale on GOG.COM starts with a journey into outer space. In Prey, a climatic sci-fi FPS game, our hero awakes aboard Talos I, a space station orbiting the moon in the year 2032. It appears that he was the key subject of an experiment meant to alter humanity forever - but at some point, things have gone wrong. The space station is now being overrun by hostile aliens and now your goal can be only one - survival.

Until the end of Summer Sale - on 15th June, 1 PM UTC - Prey is available on GOG.COM with a special 70% discount.

TheMonkofDestiny: This was fixed on Steam years ago. You can download both and they will remain in their respective directories without clashing with each other.

kud13: I guess Galaxy 2.0 will need an update, since it just gobbled up my Prey 2006 entry in the library.

For those interested: Steam keys for Prey 2006 can still be bought from PlayAsia.

fr33kSh0w2012: Aww...No...Can you get the installers check in your GOG library!
yeah, I can download the installer through Galaxy 2.0

When you click the Prey game entry, it'll show multiple owned copies. I have 1 GOG copy and 2 steam copies (2006 and 2017). They are identical in metadata (all are described as developed by Arkane in 2017), but the entry for the 2006 Prey (the only one I have installed right now) features the DESCRIPTION from the 2006 game- about Tommy and what the game's about. All the other info (screenshots, backsplash) are from the 2017 release

tfishell: Surely there's extra legal stuff going on.
There is. I'm not going to claim I know specifics down to the last dotted i or crossed t but I know part of the history behind Bethesda actually publishing the Prey that's here currently involved rights to the IP being signed over to Bethesda so Human Head could walk away cleanly.

With Raven and Wolfenstein, it's the same song and dance that surrounds most of what Raven worked on that doesn't end with "of Duty" in its title.

Ha! I knew we would get this someday. GOG version of a game is best version of a game.

Cool!

MysterD: If we want to go there - sure, to get an account & pay for these games just to get these files in the first place to archive (so I can back them up on DVD, CD, BR, flash drive, another HDD, whatever) - I need a GOG account; need to buy the game; go onto web browser or Galaxy app; sign into my online GOG account and download the files from web browser or Galaxy app.
On GOG I can choose which browser (within limits... or else the site is broken), I can use LGogDownloader or gogrepo.py. I can even make my own downloader client with a bit of programming effort. I don't have to trust Galaxy.

Is there a way to get games downloaded from Steam without installing the official client?

Hey kud13

this should be fixed now :)
Whilst I completely agree with how awesome GOG's offline installers are for DRM-Free gaming, arguing over whether you need a client to download Prey (2006) on Steam or not for those who don't already own it is a little futile when you can't actually buy it there anymore (it's now as "digitally out of circulation" as NOLF or Freelancer). ie, those who bought it years ago can still download it, but for non-owners you'll never be able to download the Steam version when the game is no longer on Steam...

Bavarian: Also, I think it's utterly stupid to name a game exactly the same as an already existing one.
^ This x1000. It does nothing but cause problems with installing to the same default name directory, clients / launchers or 3rd party utilities mixing up metadata based on .exe name, and make finding patches / tweaks / reviews for the older titles highly tedious.

Just a head's up, when one buys the game(delux version at least) it shows up as "productxxxxxxxxx" (where xxxxxxxx is some numbers) instead of it's name in the checkout pages.

The latest official patch makes the CD version DRM free anyway. So just install it, patch it then backup the installation.

But if you want it on Steam then you can just redeem the CD Key from the CD release on Steam, and it will add it to your library.

Thats only a visual glitch and doesnt affect purchase of the game.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that...yeah the purchase works fine, I just wanted to let GOG know so they could fix it & also let customers know as well. :)
And another one that I already bought on Steam because I was not patient enough.
I really need to work on my backlog of unplayed games so I do not have time to buy new games on Steam that will eventually also come to GOG where I actually want to buy them^^

Its safe to say that GOG will get more and more big titles. Especially new ones. So patience is indeed worth it. Its not like you have to buy a game on release. If you buy it later it can be on GOG and even on sale. Win Win.
Everyone else has already said this, but this is a fantastic game. I skipped over it since I didn't really care about the OG Prey and I thought this was just a generic Sci-Fi shooter until I took a closer look. It's a genuine gem of a game and I can't recommend it enough.
