Pyromancer138: May I ask you a question?
Is Prey 2006 DRM-Free on Steam?
SarahGabriella: Steam is by default DRM. Steam goes down, your games are gone.
LiefLayer: Do you know that there was a problem with deus ex md dlc that only worked with internet and gog galaxy?
I want to be sure that problem is not here too.
So not every game on gog was drm-free on release
SarahGabriella: That wasnt intended and it got fixed...
You can back-up Steam game-folders elsewhere. Nothing is stopping you from doing so.
If the game's EXE isn't using any DRM (such as CEG, Securom, Tages, StarForce, Denuvo, G4WL, etc etc) - then that copy is technically DRM-FREE.
As long as the game isn't protected by DRM junk - I can back up these folders, move then outside of Steam folder, run from EXE, and they will boot up no problem.
If we want to go there - sure, to get an account & pay for these games just to get these files in the first place to archive (so I can back them up on DVD, CD, BR, flash drive, another HDD, whatever) - I need a GOG account; need to buy the game;
go onto web browser or Galaxy app; sign into my online GOG account and download the files from web browser or Galaxy app. Regardless, you still need to get these files somewhere first, before you can back them up.
When going digital - it's on the user to back-up their stuff.
Bavarian: If I had to choose between Prey and Prey, I'd definitely go for Prey.
Also, I think it's utterly stupid to name a game exactly the same as an already existing one.
I normally refer to Prey by Human Head (from 2006 as either:
Prey 2006, Prey: Human Head, Prey: Classic, or Prey OG.
