UPDATE: The first No Man's Sky update is now out!
It's a much-awaited bundle of fixes, as well as compatibility and performance improvements and you can grab it now via GOG Galaxy auto-updates, or with the newest offline installers.

No Man's Sky a massive science-fiction game set in an infinite procedurally generated galaxy, is available now, DRM-free on GOG.com. Note that the game takes place in one persistent PC universe, shared across GOG and Steam.

In an intergalactic society, only the few set off towards the stars — explorers, those unafraid, those with nothing to lose. They set off never to come back as far as any of us are concerned. And thus, we still look up at an infinite sky, now within our reach, yet still untouched — a no man's land, a No Man's Sky.

No Man's Sky promises discovery of an infinite, uncharted universe. Its billions of stars, planets, unknown living creatures, breathtaking sights and lonely wastelands — all seamlessly connected — gradually getting catalogued by explorers drawn to the distant mysteries of the horizon, eager to leave a permanent mark in their wake.

The frontier is merciless and dangerous. Exposed to a universe of extremities in your fragile suit and ship, you'll need resources and upgrades to get far — as well as the means to stand your ground in a fight. Whether you journey to the center of it all or seek out the farthest reaches of existence, the trip will not be simple or dull. You'll catalogue things unseen, discover alien artifacts and reveal the greatest mysteries of the universe. If you survive.

Calibrate your suits for extreme insomnia, reach out and touch the No Man's Sky, DRM-free on GOG.com!

Nice very and very sensible conclusions.

GilesHabibula: Edit: That link appears to be identical to the regular account page, so I'm not sure why it worked for me at all, but it's worth a shot. Maybe it just refreshes the account page? Like I say, I'm a novice user. Maybe someone else could explain how this works?
The correct link would be https://www.gog.com/account/refresh

anothername: Yeah, thank god my forum name is not AssMaster or something like that... that would be fun to see on the ships screens :D
avatar
BKGaming: Well if someone was to pick that name, I imagine that would not care anyway. Lol

avatar
anothername: I know or certain MMOs that uses some kind of account name as base but still separate it from character names (i.e. Star Trek online would be "Captain Picard@BKgaming"). But to just pick the account name from whatever store you get it? URGH! Major angry smiley >:(

...I hope I'm just more cranky than usual since sleepy. I should just call it a day.
avatar
BKGaming: It's pretty much any online game today that uses Steamworks and now the Galaxy API. At-least on Steam you can change your display name though.
My fault for living under the gog rock ;)

Singleplayergames with a dedicated user interface where already weird but common to me, but them using a completely different user interface...

*sigh* While I still really REALLY (!) do not want a Space Dude going by a desperate forum/account name choice a night full of sleep + a few more hours of NMS redirected all that anger to the tiny inventory. :P

----
Following is just a long rant about inventory size, skip here:

I mean come on now, game invites you to get totally lost, harvest planets like you're one of these Independence Day aliens, want you to craft all kind of stuff and on top has fun/fluff items like bag of alien chips (forgot the IG name; but that thing takes the same space that 500 units Titanium takes) but has not only an inventory of laughable small size but let the tiny amount of slots share with Exo & Ship upgrades.

Only morons with virus infected pc's are having problems...
There is large number of people HAVING NO ISSUE WHAT SO EVER.

shocked TotalRetard didn't give the game 10/10 review just cause it has FOV slider...

but guess that is because blizzard wasn't there to pay him off with starcraft2 reviews.

I see. Your only two brain cells are busy quarreling with each other about who of them is the greatest fanboy. Keep fighting!

AlienMind: Nevertheless I salute each one buying this because it indeed IS revolutionary in the department of seamless planet to planet travel.
avatar
elgonzo: I am not sure what sort of revolution you are eluding to. The thing you describe as revolutionary was done already a long time ago. For example Frontier 2: Elite, which was released about 23 years ago, running on old Amiga (AGA) systems (and other platforms). I guess, what you alluding to is the more or less seamless transition between space flight and planet walking. But i am not sure whether that would be revolutionary either...
Love FE:2
Also love Evochron Mercenary which also has seamless transitions between space and planet

I had kid send chat to me telling me he was trying to refund...
I have no clue why he sent the chat to me told him i am not gog employee...
He just thought maybe I could help him.

He told me he thought the min requirements were optional... and started raging about how bad game is.

When I see people like you.
That is all I can think of.

Well, no surprise that you can't think of other or more things -- that would indeed be rather difficult with only two brain cells...
No luck here either. Patched and restarted but only see the title screen, followed by a never ending drift of stars. Eventually the game crashes.

I'm running more on the i3 minimum end of things, so I wasn't expecting miracles, just hoping I could play the game at a low graphics level. Still holding out hope for future patches. Best of luck to all out there.

BKGaming: No the graphics look stunning with pretty much everything set to high and at 1920 x 1080 resolution.
You must have a different "stunning" threshold to me -- I'm playing it in 4K with everything turned up, and it varies between "OK" and "terrible". The art style is quite nice, granted, but the execution is weak: grass-type plants are ugly 2D sprites that look terrible up close, textures are muddy, the weird grainy pop-in is distracting (why no LOD options?), and the hand-built assets (crates, buildings, etc.) are lacking in detail. Frankly it looks like a PS3 game a lot of the time...
From the little I did see on youtube, I would say the amazing game Planet Explorers' planet looks much nicer. But then again, it's a single planet but it is lovely as is the life there. :)

What i can glean so far from videos, graphical fidelity is especially bad on planets (i.e., where the camera view is close to geometry). It certainly does not look good. With respect to aesthetics, i can't say that i would like it either. But that is subject to taste/personal preference anyway. Do you remember "Geiss", that psychedelic Winamp screensaver from the olden days? Given the right music, i could stare at the screen with my mind going blank for hours... Not really sure whether NMS's aesthetic has a similarly chilling effect on some, but given its somewhat psychedelic color palette i tend to think so...

The hype train; has derailed!

After all the reviews, the metabombing, DDOS attacks on a well-known reviewer site, a mediocre pc port that reminds of the Arkham debacle and basically, all the drama and the fact that the game fails to deliver on its promises (which shouldn't surprise anyone, a small dev team literally promising not just the moon but thousands of planets as well?). The game now has earned a mediocre opinion and the scorn of most everyone who paid full price for it.

If word of mouth continues at this rate, the game might be half price before Christmas.
