Blizzard Entertainment and GOG.COM have teamed up to rerelease select classic Blizzard games, beginning with Diablo®, Blizzard’s legendary 1996 action role-playing game that introduced players to the harsh—and deeply rewarding—world of Sanctuary.

The original Diablo® is available now via digital distribution for the first time ever on GOG.COM. Players looking for the authentic Diablo experience can play the game as it was in 1996, with period-appropriate 20 FPS SVGA graphics, and the ability to matchmake through the classic version of Blizzard’s Battle.net® online-gaming service.

Blizzard and GOG.COM have collaborated on an updated version of the game, which includes out-of-the-box Windows 10 compatibility, and a host of bug fixes. Players can choose either version of the game from a launcher.

tinyE: Diablo is the game that taught me when humble defenseless people are attacked and threatened with extinction by untold evil, and depend on you for their lives and for the lives and future of all mankind, they will still see fit to charge you for fucking EVERYTHING, and not even attempt to cut you a deal or offer even the slightest discount on equipment and repairs!

:D

NOTE: this is a silly post meant as a joke. Let's not try to make anything social or political out of it please! Thank you. :D
I know they overcharged too on too many occasions 100 gold pieces just to tell me it was a regular piece of leather armor I really wanted to throttle that bastard!

I also managed to Afford that One damn spell... To make portals back to the village so I'd loot save at the village loot some more Loot again and again I amassed all this gold a ton of useless trinkets armour some of it enchanted most of it rare I finished it on the hardest dificulty TBH it was easy I swear it was harder on easy difficulty for some weird reason I kept the red stone thing at the end. XD

jakandratchet: The online only requirement for diablo 3 is the reason I've never played it.

gamesfreak64: online only requirement for diablo 3 ?
you mean it needs to check online and needs active internet ? or is it online play only?

i removed the game ...good riddance ,its gone in digital nowhere :D
this is another sad experience i learned from , next time i see a much wanted classic game i will wait , very long time :D
maybe get it one day at 1 euro :D joined 2014 bought lots of games , 2nd, 3rd year less until today ...
i also bought less games on Steam and Gamersgate ... think i rather burry or wipe my behind with my cash then spend it and be sorry later, having to spend hours looking for patches to get a paid for game to work...
Anyway i learned from it ...so in a way it was helpfull.... :D level up for me :D
Active internet connection
Diablo, and Warcraft (later on), "patched" for modern machines.
And brought to this website.
So unreal.

Should've shown your appreciation for the hardcore crowd much earlier, but better late than never, Blizzard. Hopefully, there's more to come.

Barry_Woodward: Where does Diablo currently rank among the bestselling of all time on GOG?

Page 9 out of 62 (each page has 48 entries)
#414 out of 2,936 entries

https://www.gog.com/games?sort=bestselling&page=9
Four hours later and it's on page 8 with #368 rank among the all-time bestselling. Only a matter of time before it hits #1. :p
Thank you GOG and thank you Blizzard! We have been waiting for this for a long time.
Awesome job GOG!

I'm glad the game works 100% for you and you don't have any problems , a forum topic shows many users having some problems ... at least they had some yesterday, but maybe its magically fixed , or the problems went away all of a sudden, i cant run it , well i actually can run it if i dont mind CPU at 89% or more all the time, and even GPU is goin nuts while it usually doesnt break a sweat ...

Anyway ,i uninstalled it and the problems were all solved... :D

Barry_Woodward: If Diablo makes it to the first page of GOG's bestselling games, maybe even number one, just think of the opportunities that could open up.

Loger13: I do not want to tear off the dreams, but, unfortunately, it is most likely that we will get here only those games that Blizzard itself does not sell in its own store (Battle.net). This means that it will be only Diablo, Warcraft 1 + 2. That is exactly what was announced (this can be regarded as indirect confirmation of this theory).
Although I also really want exactly the described development of events (Only it should be noted that Diablo 3 is an always-online game (MMO-style), there is no point in having it on GOG. We will still be tied to a mandatory account, Blizzard servers and the need for Internet connection).
The prevailing thought is games like Diablo and WC1 cannot work with the current iteration of battle.net, which is why Blizzard does not sell them on it's site. It would be hard for me to imagine that Blizzard will allow titles like Diablo 3 and WC3 to be sold without some sort of Battle.net integration. Even in the best case scenario, if they allowed Diablo 3 to be sold here, the mulitplayer is going to go through battle.net, not Galaxy which I can't imagine GoG would ever agree to.
What an unexpected and delightful surprise.
Thank you GoG ! This is Instabuy material.
I feel like its the 90s & I'm in front of a 14" CRT monitor again !

Perhaps sales of those games have stagnated on their client and they'd be open to a cross-play opportunity with Galaxy. An infusion of online players for their Battle.net customers to interact with can only be a good thing. They'll still have their exclusives to lean on: World Of Warcraft, Overwatch, Hearthstone and Heroes Of The Storm.

Holy shit! Take my money!
Don't post real often but I could not resist, diablo was and still is a personal favorite of mine, I played a lot of it back when it was new. this version has some differences and some tweeks from what I recall of the original, would like to see this compatible with Diablopatch (https://diablopat.ch/download.php) as it adds a few quality of life things without disrupting the gameplay. anyhow, thanks GoG, heres hoping the rumors that you guys are struggling is just haters hating and don't have any substance to em.
Well - years ago I've tried it but it but didn't like it - guess hack n'slash just isn't my genre. But it's a CLASSIC and for the sake of getting other Blizzard games - purchased!

EDIT:
....and of course, just to be sure, downloaded (no offence GOG :-P)

Klumpen0815: Now it's complaining about libSDL2_mixer-2.0.so.0
which according to https://packages.ubuntu.com is in an older library package than the one I have installed. -.-
Debian testing has it in libsdl2-mixer-2.0-0. You can try apt-file search to find a package in the repo by contained file name.
