Blizzard Entertainment and GOG.COM have teamed up to rerelease select classic Blizzard games, beginning with Diablo®, Blizzard’s legendary 1996 action role-playing game that introduced players to the harsh—and deeply rewarding—world of Sanctuary.

The original Diablo® is available now via digital distribution for the first time ever on GOG.COM. Players looking for the authentic Diablo experience can play the game as it was in 1996, with period-appropriate 20 FPS SVGA graphics, and the ability to matchmake through the classic version of Blizzard’s Battle.net® online-gaming service.

Blizzard and GOG.COM have collaborated on an updated version of the game, which includes out-of-the-box Windows 10 compatibility, and a host of bug fixes. Players can choose either version of the game from a launcher.

shmerl: You need libsdl2-ttf-2.0-0.
avatar
Klumpen0815: Found it:
https://packages.ubuntu.com/bionic/libsdl2-ttf-2.0-0

Now it's complaining about libSDL2_mixer-2.0.so.0
which according to https://packages.ubuntu.com is in an older library package than the one I have installed. -.-

kustridaren: It seems to be translated atleast into swedish.
The Swedish translation
A Swedish translation has been made by Diablo, but only for the PlayStation version. It was produced by Electronic Arts Nordic

Klumpen0815: Ahh, the Playstation version. That's a different can of worms.
There's a German patch available as well.

Barry_Woodward: If Diablo makes it to the first page of GOG's bestselling games, maybe even number one, just think of the opportunities that could open up.
...
I do not want to tear off the dreams, but, unfortunately, it is most likely that we will get here only those games that Blizzard itself does not sell in its own store (Battle.net). This means that it will be only Diablo, Warcraft 1 + 2. That is exactly what was announced (this can be regarded as indirect confirmation of this theory).
Although I also really want exactly the described development of events (Only it should be noted that Diablo 3 is an always-online game (MMO-style), there is no point in having it on GOG. We will still be tied to a mandatory account, Blizzard servers and the need for Internet connection).

Crisco1492: While we're on the topic, does anyone have any idea how much money a game would need to make to reach Page 1?
It does not work that way. The calculation is not for money, but by the number of copies sold. Even free giveaways of games are included (hovering in "top"). The exact number of copies that must be sold in order to get to the first page, I suppose, only GOG employees knows (and publishers of the games that got there (they know their "numbers")).

thebream: Nice release, heres hoping other classics like Warcraft 1,2 and 3 and StarCraft make it here.
Given Starcraft sells Starcraft HD, i doubt they would send SC here.

Barry_Woodward: If Diablo makes it to the first page of GOG's bestselling games
Currently on the 9th spot on page 9 (out of 62), at 50 items per page.
Let's see how swiftly it'll rise.

Back from the Silicon Synapse era of Blizzard there's also The Lost Vikings 1, 2, Rock'n'Roll Racing and BlackThorne.
It's entirely possible that those will be sold here and they are all amongst the best that company ever made.

No, the fact that the PC version of Diablo 3 (not the console version) had stupid always online DRM doesn't make it an MMO, it's not another genre than Diablo 2.
I hope that Diablo 3 will get freed of DRM at some point in the distant future.

It's showing up as the number 1 game on mine. But I may be doing something wrong.

While there might not be data available to us on the classics that have topped the bestselling list, The Witcher I-III have made it to page 1 and, considering CD Projekt is a publicly traded company, I imagine they've mentioned how many copies are owned on GOG specifically. Perhaps we can get a sense of where the others stand in relation to those numbers.

Page 8 out of 62 (each page has 48 entries)
#382 out of 2,936 entries

That's the list of bestselling currently for the day, while we're talking about bestselling of all time.

It's not "just stupid always online DRM". D3 loads some resources (stats, scripts, etc.) from servers (This is done of course intentionally). So, It have exactly client-server architecture.
So without rebuilding the game, it’s impossible to get the offline DRM-Free version. And, well, Blizzard just will not do it specifically for GOG.
I also hope for scenario with DRM-freedom for D3, but this is an unlikely course of events.

Switch the sorting to "bestselling (all time)" in the top right of the store page (not the homepage). See here

Oh, and Diablo already rose to the bottom of page 8 in the last 24 minutes.
