Blizzard Entertainment and GOG.COM have teamed up to rerelease select classic Blizzard games, beginning with Diablo®, Blizzard’s legendary 1996 action role-playing game that introduced players to the harsh—and deeply rewarding—world of Sanctuary.

The original Diablo® is available now via digital distribution for the first time ever on GOG.COM. Players looking for the authentic Diablo experience can play the game as it was in 1996, with period-appropriate 20 FPS SVGA graphics, and the ability to matchmake through the classic version of Blizzard’s Battle.net® online-gaming service.

Blizzard and GOG.COM have collaborated on an updated version of the game, which includes out-of-the-box Windows 10 compatibility, and a host of bug fixes. Players can choose either version of the game from a launcher.
I already have two CD-ROM copies (one from the Diablo Battle Chest I bought as a teenager and one that I got from an eBay listing I bought to get Hellfire) but I wouldn't mind upping the convenience once a decent sale comes on.

gamesfreak64: Thats bad, however the good old paper manuals are the most important, cd/dvd can be 'repalced' by digital , but manuals ... thats why prefer a paper manual , makes it easier to read while gaming, digital requires either alt tabbing , to show the manual, you can use the pdf on a mobile/ or pad or show it on the 2nd screen if you have one, paper is the best imo.

bler144: I know this is old-school, but you do know that you can like, print a pdf if you really want to have it on paper? ;)
ofcourse i know :D i have a printer , a scanner, etc etc etc :D, i was born old-school :D

i assume you know that::

1) good paper is quite expensive, if i want to print manuals i want to keep them, so cheap paper is not an option.

2) ink cardridge ( HP) are quite expensive , for a small cardridge, they can amount up to 40 or 45 euros in a pack ( sometimes on sale) usually its around 50 euros ( if you are lucky) for 1 color and 1 black
and no, i dont use refillers or refill ones ....
given the fact you can buy a nice HP printer for around 45 euros, usually with cardrdige in it that are quite full...
3) conclusion : printing is expensive :D

Anyway i am not a caveman, i do know technology exists , im just old school , dont like too many changes, thats all.

tfishell: I am kind of surprised there are no goodies; did Diablo 1 not really come with any? Manual? (guess I'll have to read the comments to find out, perhaps)

Hastur.: Manual is available once you install the game.
Oh good to know, thanks. (Granted I'm not all that personally interested in the game, just in getting highly-desired games to GOG, and hot lava dam if this isn't a highly-desired game. ;)

Also, CDPR's (now former) Lead Director for Cyberpunk & The Witcher is now employed at Blizzard.

Perhaps that made the contact between Blizzard and GOG a bit more softy.... kinda like a fabric softener P:
This is incredible
15 pages & posts are very positive. Guess Hell did froze over.
Congrats on signing up Blizzard to start releasing DRM-free!
This is awesome, I can't wait to see what other classic Blizzard games are going to be released. Looking forward for Diablo 2 above anything else, but I would love to see the Lost Vikings and Blackthorne as well, I hope they all make it to GOG.

Thank you GOG! This was really unexpected. :)
This is amazing! Thank you GOG and Blizzard!!!!
Now this is a welcome surprise!

Kudos to GOG.com and Blizzard.
This is great news! Thank you GOG and Blizzard!
No Hellfire?

Getting The Lost Vikings 1 & 2 here would be just as HEAVENLY!
This game spawned and inspires so many CRPG/ARPG (you name it), out there. For $9.99 it is a no-brainer. You own a little piece of modern gaming history with this purchase, and it's yours forever.
Bought it the instant I saw it.

It feels good to have a legit digital copy of it, at last.

Now if you could also add Hellfire and perhaps add an option to turn friendly fire off for online play (Co-op is harsh with friendly fire on), that would be perfect.
