Since there is nothing else going on in the world right now, in celebration of Friday's release let's kill time by celebrating our favorite "old" console stories codes and tips.

Please try to keep it relatively vintage. I don't want to see any stories about the new "Call of Duty". :P
Dragon Warrior 2 (NES version):

Encountered a fight with a Blizzard. Seeing as I noticed they were vulnerable to Defeat, I had the Prince of Cannock (PoC) cast Defeat. Unfortunately, before he had a chance to act, the Blizzard cast Defeat which killed him instantly. (Fortunately, it didn't kill anyone else; I *have* seen a single cast of that spell kill all three party members; do you think that's fair?)

I also note that, in the NES version. the PoC is the only character who can cast Revive, and it can't be cast during battle (and only restores 1 HP when used outside of battle). (I note that enemies can cast Revive during battle for a full revive. I also note that the remakes of the game made this spell usable during battle and made it a full revive for party members, as well as giving the spell to the Princess of Moonbroke (PoM).)

I remembered that the spell Chance has a chance of attempting to instant kill all enemies. So, I tried having the PoM cast that spell. Can you guess what happened next? (Hint: It didn't kill the enemy.)

.
Well, the PoM cast Chance, and the spell *revived* the PoC (with full HP).

mmm, maybe it's released on Friday but on Amazon websites around the globe (US, UK and French), it's considered as unavailable and thus you can't even pre-order it. And as I guess they don't "hide" the pre-orders, I guess they don't have any stock in their warehouses so it's unlikely to be a Friday release for those like me who live nowhere near a Walmart-like. :(

BTW, that reminds me that even before owning it, I already have a HUGE complaint about it :o)
Big problem is the length of the cable of the controller which is barely 1 meter long.
Proof in video around 4m20s:

(look the distance between the console and iJustine's hands)

For those who have a coffee table it's fine but for people like me who prefer to have their console next to the TV (which is far from the sofa), it's a no-no. It's actually infuriating as in my memory, the original cables of the old NES were much longer. :(
You reminded me I have forgot which online store I bought it from. Ah well it'll be a surprise mystery present when it arrives!
I need to play some bona fide PC classic on Fiday, just to mock you console peasants. Maybe Fate of Atlantis will go on sale?
On one hand I look at this thing and I'm itching to buy it. On the other hand there's pesky logic saying I'm only truly interested in a handful of the 30 games so €70 is overspending. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Now it's not really much of a story, but when I was a kid we'd sometimes visit/stay over with some relatives that live on the other side of the country. The journey would take us a day and as an easily bored kid I was not at all happy about it. But I would not complain because I knew that when we arrived I'd be able to play Nintendo World Cup all day for days. I was obsessed with that game. Of course it's nowhere to be seen now on the mini NES bah!

the previous four nes classic threads where mine ;p

im trying to remember stuff but the only thing i can actually come up with is how dissapointed i was with lylat wars ( star fox 64 ) when i played it for the first time
from unboxing it to firing it up it took 90 minutes to see the end credits

but i realised that this was a short game meant to be played again and again and again
so when i had half an hour to kill id play lylat wars

For $125 you could just buy a mega drive cartridge with built in SD card slot + a second hand genesis.

this is an official product though
I played one screen of Willow for months to get my level high enough to beat Bavmorda. Only to find out i didn't need to. I just had to use a different weapon.

And Zelda started a lifelong love of swords, sorcery and RPGs

My brother borrowed it from a friend. Or so the story goes. And then we moved amd the friend said he already got it back. But that doesn't exactly make sense. I have a feeling that he stole it, bit he never admitted to it.
Recalling from fuzzy memory.

NES:

You could beat Super Mario Bros 3 with a couple or 3? flutes, A Cloud, 1 or 2 P-Wings?.

In Robocop, at the hostage mayor screen, you could walk past the mayor and gunman and punch the gunman out. It's faster than ducking and shooting gunman before mayor stands back up. Another, at the final boss 2nd ED209 is to simply stand and shoot with pistol repeatedly when the 2nd ED209 turns red and walks faster and shorter before blasting downwards.

I just finished watching the robocop movie trilogy on dvd a couple days ago. Jolly entertaining. 1st was great. 2nd was meh, 3rd was a bit better, IMO.
