TheGrimLord: You're right. I was going to support it before Evenicle came along. It was just to show support for adult content here. But now that Evenicle is here and marginally better, there's no need.
I wishlisted Subverse for the same reason, but since I watched gameplay runs of it on YT i lost my interest in it completely. The dialogue in this game is cringeworthy as all hell – like written by a pre-adolescent, the kind that thinks that swearing and sexual innuendos are smart and funny. Adult content in Subverse acts like its a self-parody which is baffling to me.

Evenicle at least has solid gameplay.

It's that bad? :( I can't decide for similar reason. I didn't look up gameplay yet, but I did review some of their other works, and they look very bland as far as porn goes. If they didn't hijack famous characters, they would be entirely forgetable. If the same is true for the game, only saving grace would be interesting story, or interesting gameplay. If it has neither... :sad panda:

RedRagan: For western countries that allow adult magazines and sites to thrive (and I don't mention the porn industry yet) many people are so uptight about a game with sex involved. Seriously there's thousands of games on GOG with no sex you can buy but y'all decided to wear that high and mighty purity boots and stomp around yelling at people as if this game will bring the antichrist along with it.

Hypocrites.
avatar
Darvond: It's not about purity or anything, it's that adding this male gaze does nothing to actually advance things mechanically and we're no longer horny teenagers on DSL or (if you're old enough) dial up networks, having to download 480 x 210 image of someone in what could possibly be considered a state of undress.

I feel the phrasing is more, "Please don't tell me when to be horny". Why bother with the pretense of wrapping a whole game around a pornographic premise when horny teens already did that on Newgrounds in the 2000s? Which at least, only bother with minigames as a pretense?
Male gaze? Seriously? I never see a single complaint when games targeted for female gaze like Dream Daddy and other games filled with sexy men got released. So you're saying that freedom for all is a lie? You're saying as if video game is supposed to be exempted from sexual content even when other media allowed to have them? I don't know if you're a bible thumping Christian purist or current wave feminist because they all sound the same now.

Magnitus: The action looks interesting (I'm a sucker for sci-fi with spaceships), but not sure if the price point is for the gameplay or x-rated content.

Can't find the game on Steam (for the aggregated review scores) and there are no reviews on metacritic. Unless the game is absolutely amazing, I'm inclined to wait for a special.
Top "Subverse" search result, but if you have specific tags, or game types blocked you may not see it.

I would not wish to influence you in either direction, but I will say this... in the current state of this game, Subverse is quite expensive and no discount on it so far. Before buying I would definetly check out some gameplay videos.

For me personally at least, the porn parts of this game look the worst, and ironically – that's it's main selling point. The dialogues are the absolute facepalm material, they are not funny, they just make you grit your teeth.
For a sample (without much spoilers):
https://youtu.be/hDaapkA8F84?t=545 --- listen to the first sentance.
https://youtu.be/hDaapkA8F84?t=1284 --- the first three dialogue boxes will suffice.
https://youtu.be/hDaapkA8F84?t=1014 --- aaand wait for her response...

If someone finds this amusing, then maybe the game is ideal for them. I find this immature...

Thanks, I did finally manage to access the game page on Steam and look at the aggregate reviews.

The game looks decent from what I read, but there was enough criticism about the gameplay that I don't think I want to pay the price they are asking for it (at that price, I expect the game to wow me somewhat... maybe I'm just getting spoiled with all the amazing games coming out nowadays).

I'll wait for a good special and get it then.

I almost forget about this one, when I first learned about that game it looked promising but then I tried it at EA release on steam and it was not very good, medicore shump/tactic game with some adult scenes that were just short animation on UE engine - so called pandora system where you unlocking new scenes with "waifus" using points acquired through playthrough... without context, without dialogues, just scenes that you could probably find as gif on some random site, I presonally hoped for something more... involved I guess. Dunno if this changed but back then creators response to that flaw wasn't really promising since the whole adult part of the game was created around pandora scene system.

Did anything change from that time?

What i played of the Shump it seemed decent enough, and the dialog being funny.

You need to look at what the other options really are though. I've seen games where it's pretty much 'solve puzzle, get a picture', no depth, and not interesting. Having played Last evil, which needed refinement but otherwise a good card game made it far more enjoyable than if it was 'memory games' or something stupid. Last evil did have a lot of sex scenes (and most of them are fairly lame that you can do without) but the alternative would have been worse; though re-themed it could have had all the variety and none of the sexual aspects involved.

But we already have Tyrian 2000. :p

Oh, there is many many many more better adult games when it comes to building story/characters, most of them are VN or RPG with 2d graphics, the thing is most of them are not well know or are not that pretty so most people never heard about them/didn't give them a chance, that also explain differences in Subverse ratings between people, they seems to be very positive or very negative from what I saw.
Obviously there are also games like you described but Subverse version I played was not much better, yea shump thing may be decent (I don't know, I don't like shumps that much, played better ones for sure), but the tactic layer was just poor.
But the worst part was the fact that it was lousy tied together by pandora system, it felt like adult part of the game was not integral part of the story - like unlocking movies on some website.

But yea, it was on 1st day of EA, dunno how it's now, will wait for the full release, but if the pandora is/will stay as it was back then I'm not that optimistic, imo pandora is just lazy approach. Buy yea, we will see... ^^

kzadur: There is even a note on this blogpost regarding the age verification: https://blog.de.playstation.com/2021/02/18/so-bezahlt-ihr-eure-einkaeufe-im-playstation-store/. Here it's tied to adding funds to your account, but it applies to direct buys iirc, too. As stated, I didn't used it quite in a while.

EDIT: Typos

JinKazaragi: If you buy codes fro PS-store at a local store you don't have to verify age usually since they expect said store already has done that (every prepaid code is considered 18+ here).
That's not the point. It's an example that there is a game store that has a real check in place.

There's not going to be any discounts either until it's finished. The price is what it is right now, and you're only going to get more value out of the game as more content is added. It's the same deal as something like Baldur's Gate 3. It's never going to go on sale until it's finished.

Clearly the game just isn't for you, and that's fine. But thanks for letting all of us know how mature you are. I bet you're just a blast to be around, huh?

I'm finding it all rather humorous myself. That first clip is clip is genuinely funny if you understand where it's coming from.

I could say the same thing about you. As anyone can tell, my post was a reply to someone expressing legitimate concerns about a game, that is expensive and (as you yourself have pointed out) early access.

The clips showcase the type of humour that is overpresent in Subverse. No matter how you look at it, this is very low humour (by definition, as oppossed to, lets say, Terry Pratchett or Douglas Adams). Some people enjoy it and I have absolutely no problem with that (I don't watch/play only sophisticated things myself), but anyone going blind into this game has a right to be warned that that's what the game pushes as humour and "porn" (since it was confirmed that there is no sex in the main game) – sexual puns and innuendos.

You might not realise it, but a huge amount of people don't find chuckling at "big, sweaty cocks" mildly amusing, and it's a fair warning, because Subverse is full of this. Other reviewers also pointed this fact out, so it means that more people are in some way or another uneasy about this.

Yet you feel you can ride in on your high horse and take a free jab at me, cause my taste in humour is different? Reaaaal smooth.
