When you build upon a star...

Starbound, a sandbox action/RPG about settling down on a proceduraly generated universe and exploring its infinite randomness, is available now DRM-free on GOG.com for Windows, Mac and Linux with a 33% launch discount.

You are a lonely alien, cast away on an unknown planet after your ship and your spacefaring dreams got severely damaged. Now you must start anew, build yourself a home, blast any rude natives to smithereens, and perhaps gradually establish your own colony. Once you repair your trusty spaceship, a vast galaxy of opportunities will open up and your procedurally generated appetite for adventure and exploration will never let up!

Much like the crafty alien protagonist, developers Chucklefish are building and expanding Starbound one feature at a time, shaping it up with the help of their community. The final version is expected to include a proper plot and quests, as well as an array of additional dungeons, bosses, lore, and loot. Which should make the online drop in/drop out co-op all the more cooler, and give the modders some extra toys to play around with in this near-infinite universe.

Build yourself a home on an expansive, procedurally generated universe and make the most out of being Starbound, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 33% discount will last until February 2, 1:59 PM GMT.

tinyE: So far I was given a pick ax which attaches to a magnet looking thing and beamed down. I use that gizmo to collect crap until I'm notified I have enough of something to make something else, but I can't find a list of what I need to make what. XD For instance, rope it says I need a certain amount of something, but it doesn't say what something! :P

Also, even though I have a sword I'm getting killed every two minutes by the cast of Q*Bert.

And again, these quick slots make no sense! :P

I saw this back then but being only on Steam at the time, I haven't looked it in detail. Now that I just did, it looks nice and I'm glad that it will be released here.

ps. it looks like Terraria... :P
Two years and a patch of months without patches later, Steam-free Starbound is finally here... but not in my Humble account. At least it still claims I'll eventually get one. I'm also surprised that the GOG release doesn't get the soundtrack unlike other stores.

Now that that is out of the way, it's still a decent game.

hyperagathon: So, I was pretty sure I couldn't despise Chucklefish any more than I already do, but then I saw 64-bit is a requirement. Anyone think I'd get a refund for a purchase made in 2013? No? Yeah, thought so.
I completely agree with this.
The game might be good, but after what will soon be 3 YEARS, there's no sign of this coming out of development in the next year...and my personal guess is much longer than that.

I'm actually more angry at GoG for listing the game.
Don't get me wrong, I'm ok with selling an unfinished game, but platforms like GoG or Steam need to enforce a limit for this...3 years is unacceptable in my eyes (this is not The Witcher 3), at this point you're just using the "it's not finished" as an excuse to avoid criticism for all the issues with your game.
Best thing is I bought it with Pixel Tier from their website and now they don't provide GOG keys . Thanks I locked into Steam :S

InkPanther: This game should come with a warning for hoarders.

*Oh, nice spear! That lamp looks cool. I know I have dozens of chests full of cobble stone, but I better keep this stack. This looks like a rare item. I don't know what this does, but maybe useful later. Sure I'm gonna store this useless dagger. Grab these seeds. Neat chest, will add it to my collection.*

Be warned, it never ends. ;)
So, just like Terraria then? By the endgame I usually have at least three chests named "Dirt 1", "Dirt 2", "Usefull dirt" or some other variation. And that is JUST DIRT! Then there are banners, crafting supplies, more crafting supplies, raw ores and their products, supplies for tinkerers workshop and potion brewing, armors I no longer wear... I think I'll be right at home :)

"Regardless of however much ypu dislike the Sream EULA, Starbound IS DRM free. Period."

OK, they just told their early customers to hang themselves......

And that's the kind of devs GOG wants to introduce here?

catpower1980: Of fuck yeah! That's the least they could do when they falsely promised a DRM-free version for a long time.
FYI: the Steam version is — and has always been — DRM-free.

Edit: and you just figured that out 13 minutes ago.

Oh hey it's that Terraria clone with no content that was supposed to ship 2 years ago. Do the devs still ban people that don't like their game on their forums?
I will get this. Someday.

Good for you then....

I don't pay a so-called DRM-free to register a new account and use a 3rd-party app just to download a game folder which should normally be donwloadable without hassle directly with my browser.

So If I get a new computer I can copy the installation files on a USB Stick or another partition of a hard disk. And install the game on my new rig with a new OS may it be win 7/8/10 without having a Steam Client installed?

Theoretically. But you'd still need Steam to get ANY updates for the game.

Correct.
