When you build upon a star...

Starbound, a sandbox action/RPG about settling down on a proceduraly generated universe and exploring its infinite randomness, is available now DRM-free on GOG.com for Windows, Mac and Linux with a 33% launch discount.

You are a lonely alien, cast away on an unknown planet after your ship and your spacefaring dreams got severely damaged. Now you must start anew, build yourself a home, blast any rude natives to smithereens, and perhaps gradually establish your own colony. Once you repair your trusty spaceship, a vast galaxy of opportunities will open up and your procedurally generated appetite for adventure and exploration will never let up!

Much like the crafty alien protagonist, developers Chucklefish are building and expanding Starbound one feature at a time, shaping it up with the help of their community. The final version is expected to include a proper plot and quests, as well as an array of additional dungeons, bosses, lore, and loot. Which should make the online drop in/drop out co-op all the more cooler, and give the modders some extra toys to play around with in this near-infinite universe.

Build yourself a home on an expansive, procedurally generated universe and make the most out of being Starbound, DRM-free on GOG.com. The 33% discount will last until February 2, 1:59 PM GMT.

Note: This game is currently in development. See the FAQ to learn more about games in development, and check out the forums to find more information and to stay in touch with the community.

InkPanther: Besides, Steam version doesn't actually require Steam to run.
.....................I agree that we disagree on the notion of "drm-free" then ;)

tinyE: Downloading it now.

HereForTheBeer: Can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm anxiously awaiting tinyE's feedback. XD

Does look like fun and I like the price. Hopefully it's in a playable state and not overly bug-ridden. Well, I don't mind bugs too much but crashes suck.
It is A LOT like Terraira. I'm having a little trouble figuring out the interface. There is a thing at the top for assigning the left and right mouse buttons but when you do, nothing happens. :P
Interesting to see this here, but given the never ending updates I think I'll wait until they stop or full release.

Dray2k: Glad to see this game on GOG.

Played it on Steam, stopped playing it and then merely touched it. It changed a whole lot since the initial beta.

EDIT: It should be noted that the devs of this game curate an extreamly detailed devlog since the time development of this game started

From what I can tell, release of this game is later this year, they made some good progress during the last months.
But are the stations still laggy as heck and kill performance?

Oh I'm sorry, I don't know. But I do know that about 3 months ago they improved the performance of the game alot. A lot of people were pleased with how the game ran, but some experienced issues that were worse.

As for me, the game always ran well for me even though my PC isn't that good.

mintee: this made me laugh!

I like the looks of this game but can anyone tell me if the pvp is separated from the regular landscape? in other words, will I be ganked while just doing my own thing crafting, farming etc?
avatar
omega64: Terraria did it pretty well, you need to turn on PvP yourself to be targeted by others.
I hope this game does the same

I hope that GOG reflects on that and will pull down the early access bullshit before it's too late. This bs is hurting gaming development and promoting it will result in further degeneration of the market.
So far I was given a pick ax which attaches to a magnet looking thing and beamed down. I use that gizmo to collect crap until I'm notified I have enough of something to make something else, but I can't find a list of what I need to make what. XD For instance, rope it says I need a certain amount of something, but it doesn't say what something! :P

Also, even though I have a sword I'm getting killed every two minutes by the cast of Q*Bert.

And again, these quick slots make no sense! :P

Reading your commentary reminds me of the few hours I've played it 2 years ago, not a lot has changed it seems :o)
It looks like Terraria.

See my above posts. :P

Think I'm going to go play some Terraria. I had an idea to base my new buildings on my actual rel life inn.

Really?
A lot of reviews on this describe it as a poor mans Terraria and not a very good one at that. Anyone else play this?
