Thanks for your work, the cartographer gets better and better.

Since no one else asked about it, it's probably a selfish request.
Is it possible to add support for "foreign" keyboard-layouts?
(Like the "y <-> z" switch.)
@HiddenAsbestos: Thanks for the updates! Also, just a small request, would it be possible to let users import custom "floor" tiles too? Custom tiles are currently treated as objects, so you can import tiles for environmental objects like tables, but you can't place a stairway tile above a tile intended for floor texturing.

Hi, you're welcome! Sadly it's not possible to use custom tiles with the existing markers in the same tile. A work around would be to make a custom tile with the stairs drawn on in Photoshop - I hope that's not too much work, there should be ample space in the tileset for these combinations.

Can you explain further what these tiles are that you need? I may be able to add some new markers to the roster of built-in tiles.

v1.3.3 of Grid Cartographer released! http://www.davidwaltersdevelopment.com/tools/gridcart/

Main change is a re-write of the keyboard shortcut code so that German keyboard users will no longer have to press the wrong letters for undo/redo, etc.

I've also added a keyboard shortcut to note mode <CTRL+ENTER> which keeps it open after each note, allowing you to more quickly add multiple notes.

ps. Hope you like the slightly new web page :-)

Not sure how many game developers will read this, but v1.3.4 can now export maps as XML files. You can use this data to drive your own engine and make grid based games with it.

Other than that I've also added a top-left option for people like me who find bottom-left ... just ... really weird.

This would've made my Wizardry 6 run so much less of a pain...

I know what you mean, it's basically why I made this thing in the first place!

Still you can map 7 with it, I added in a vegetation tile for marking out the opening forest level :)

Yeah, it looks like a really good software, so thanks. I'll definitely be downloading it. :)

Sorry for the late reply, I completely forgot about this. I was actually thinking of importing my own custom textures like wood and sand. No biggie though, I can easily combine the markers and textures in Photoshop :)

No worries :-) I've added Wood and Sand tiles to the newly released v1.3.5.

I've also made a change to the custom tiles system so that the bottom half of the texture is now drawn as full RGB, rather than the colorized grey-scale of the existing system (and now just the top half). This means you can now use up to 128 full-color tiles in your maps.

To be clear it doesn't mean you can combine with the existing built-in markers so you will still need to do that yourself, if the existing terrain tiles aren't what you want.

Enjoy!

HiddenAsbestos: Any feature requests? I'm all ears!
Here's a simple one: custom hotkeys. I like to click things my own way ;P.

I'll put it on the list. It won't be too simple though - gotta rewrite the menus so they can have dynamic text on them to change the shortcut key. Also write a UI for the remapping.

I appreciate your communication and dedication, that was five bucks well spent I would say.

:D
