In v1 the window settings are inside the main editor-settings.ini file ( C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\David Walters Development\Grid Cartographer ) . Look for the same values window_x, window_y, etc. and you should be able to apply the same fix as above, if that helps. The default x/y position for a window on Windows is (100,100) which is perhaps outside of your desktop arrangement?

You know, I've been screwing around with this and you'd almost be able to map design a tile-based RPG with it. Also would be cool for a GM to make dungeons for a P&P session and print it off

I think they'd like it more if I supported hexes so that's something I'm strongly considering in my future plans.

The public beta of the Mac OSX version is now available in the usual place: http://www.davidwaltersdevelopment.com/tools/gridcart/
This is my first ever Mac application, so I imagine there might still be a few bugs.

Grid Cartographer v2.0.3 is now available.
This release has more fixes (especially for custom tiles) and an improved view centring function. Also the Mac OSX version hasn't had any bug reports so it's officially out of beta, but feel free to point out any major or minor problems that still remain :-)

As always, Enjoy!

I've just released v2.0.5, a free update focused on improved grid settings.
Adjustments to the major grid size now allow for any size from 2 to 64 tiles in either axis independently. You can also limit the grid to a number of major tiles along both axes (instead of just 1 tile as in past versions). Changes have also been made to enhance the axis values settings.
I've also added the shortcut CTRL+Enter (CMD+Enter on Mac OSX) to complete a note without needing to click the tick button on the UI.

Thanks very much, much appreciated :-)

Good news for non-US/UK keyboard users, I've spent today adding support for international keyboards as well as font support for CJK languages so you can hopefully write notes in your native tongue with much greater ease!

Grid Cartographer v2.0.7 is now available!
It adds trapped doors and locked treasure box tiles, brings clipboard support to Mac and Linux. It also adds duplicating and reordering of regions as well as fixing a few minor problems along the way. Unicode file names are better supported and, last but not least, it adds a helpful new layer swapping tool for custom tiles.

This would have been AMAZING when I was in junior high and struggling through Bard's Tale I-III.
25 years later, I'm afraid I've become old and spoiled. I just don't think I could sit through this anymore. (Although I still have REAMS of pages of my hand-drawn maps on grid paper, ha ha! I just can't throw them away!) These days it's auto-map only for me.
This is probably still amazing for pencil & paper players, though.

I've been using it most recently on my tablet for Elminage Gothic. The one-shot map scrolls in that game are good, but using Grid Cartographer you get to keep the map visible all the time and quickly add convenient annotations as you go.
If I wasn't such a wuss about spiders I might try to finish Grimrock with it as personally I do find making my own map as I go (regardless of whether it's on paper or digitally) more rewarding than an auto-map. I don't know why, but I feel a greater sense of spatial awareness and immersion if I've drawn the walls myself.
