Jeez gog cant you just add a red Caps text indicating in the game page of these games that these games are bundled with gog galaxy and require galaxy for multiplayer.

The lack of information whenever you change something is disturbing first it was that hell storm with the Linux installers and now this. Please Inform users when you make such changes
I agree. A nice warning text would not have changed anything, but people would be aware. It's the small things like that that make a reputation.
I also agree. Any game which installs GOG Galaxy without one's consent should clearly warn the user on the game's home page so that those of us who don't want a client won't end up accidentally buying & downloading those games until the issue is fixed.

I subscribe to the school of thought that it's better to have control over what you install, rather than install everything and then try to uninstall what you don't want.

This is my biggest bugbear with notebook computers which ofen come preloaded with a lot of bloatware. First thing I do is wipe their drives clean and then choose to install what I want to install. That way, I retain control over my own computer... although with all the security flaws in operating systems, this is probably more an illusion than a reality :(

Magmarock: I just installed double dragon into my custom directory and Galaxy installed itself into Program Files (86) without asking.

The second thing is that after the games shortcut was placed on the desktop I tried to launch it only to get an error message about Galaxy not being able to update.
I will not be purchasing any game on here that uses galaxy until they can sort that shit out.

With AVP I at least knew there was going to be some messy beta stuff, but if it wasn't for this forum I wouldn't have known this forced install crap was infesting Double Dragon. Why is there no mention of Galaxy or it's alpha status on the game card?

Yes it really should've been posted somewhere.

Magmarock: Yes it really should've been posted somewhere.
They mentioned it in the release announcement for the game.

If you've been following our various shenanigans, you'll get why we're so excited to have Double Dragon Trilogy join the ranks of Alien vs. Predator Classic 2000 and The Witcher Adventure Game: it's the third multiplayer title to be powered by GOG Galaxy! Thanks to the cross-play feature of GOG Galaxy, GOG.com gamers are now able to double up for a beat down with their Steam friends and frenemies.

I guess they were so excited about it that they never realized people would call shenanigans on not mentioning this GOG Galaxy silent installation on the game page itself.

Actually, the fact that Galaxy is bundled with the installer, and installs itself without asking, is not mentioned in what you quote either. It just says that multiplayer is powered by GOG Galaxy.

Yes, that is true but if you had tried the earlier games mentioned in the quote then you would know that GOG Galaxy installs automatically with them but it isn't explicitly mentioned as being the case.

Well common sense should say to you that if it powers the multiplayer then Galaxy would be present in the game/install since Galaxy is not officially out. I feel bad for GOG honestly, people complain to much and have to high of expectations from them. There a business. Don't want Galaxy on your PC, uninstall it... simple, done, over with.

Unless you have like a really small hard-drive with limited space, I can't see why this is such a big issue seeing as it can be easily removed and isn't required at all to play offline at all. There not forcing bloatware, spam, a virus, ect on you. It's part of the game that some people will use/need. Some people just seem to complain to complain.

I don't see the "fact" that DD utilizes (and includes with a silent forced install) the Galaxy client, anyplace on the game card.

The big deal isn't about the "space" it "takes up" on the system. It's about installing unwanted software without choice and without notification.

I have come to learn over the years that there are those folks out there, like you, that don't consider such stuff "to be a big deal". Or the fact that something talks to the net but that isn't noted anyplace either. Are you one of those that says; "Don't you have net connection? No big deal..." Good for you to feel that way - and I then suppose it's all good when this stuff happens to you. But not everyone feels that way. I do not.

I also have some spare space in my garage. I suppose it isn't a big deal if someone else puts some shit in there to store; having not asked me about it ahead of time? Well it would not be cool - and further - it would be less than helpful to have you standing there pointing out how it "isn't a big deal" because "there's some space there" and "just remove it" if you don't want it there.

This. I'd upvote a million times if I could.

Didn't say it did, they did tell you it uses the Galaxy multiplayer in the release announcement though.

It's part of the game and makes it 100% functional, by extension of installing the game your getting what is needed. Simple as that. Should you get a choice since you may not use it? Sure, but it doesn't change the fact it's not installing extra stuff or installing something to control your access ect... it's installing what makes the game completely functional for the end user. Some people do like playing online. GOG wanted to provide that complete experience for everyone because it's not always about what you want or how you like to play, and in-addition to that provided ways to ignore/remove it.

Had they done it in a less noticeable way, nobody would have known or even cared. But since it's obvious Galaxy is there, people like to complain.

Considering my internet sucks, nope not one of those people. I have just come learn over the years people complain about everything. It's not GOG's job in life to please you or anyone else. Had Galaxy been required, and you couldn't unstall/bypass it. Then I'd be right there agreeing with you because it restricts the end user.

This isn't an accurate to what this is at all. It's more like you buy a vacuum or something and you bring it home and after opening it in your garage your realize it had more parts than your thought taking up space to make the thing completely functional even though you won't ever use any of the hose extensions ect.

mobutu: It's just an alpha version, final version wont have these annoyances ...
You cannot be certain of that. We should report all odd behavior whenever we see it.

But then also I don't use Galaxy until it's released fully. So yes, complaining about alpha versions is not very helpful. By nature they are full of problems.

I think that Galaxy should never complain about not being able to update. In these cases it should just not update itself and be done with it.

Actually yes, it is. That is exactly what their job is. Pleasing their customers. It's pretty much what everyone is supposed to do in their job.

No, their job is to sell you a product. Sure out of a moral obligation and the well being of there business they try to please a majority of the consumers... but it's surly not there job. Pleasing everyone is a futile mission because someone always takes issue with something.

As the saying goes this is making a mountain out of a mole hill...
