Ah, the joy of watching the entitled fumble though a private alpha test phase.

Entitled. Yeah. It's almost as if they thought they were customers here, paying GOG money and all. Some people, right?

To be fair, alpha Galaxy support is hardly what people are paying for, it's not like you pay extra for it nor like it's the main reason people buy games here at this point. GOG staff are obviously releasing it in this manner to give the fans a chance to try it early, to get as many features as possible ASAP and to test Galaxy so it's actually any good when it finally officially comes out, three pretty neat things. It is insane to form a lynch mob because of obviously temporary issues with it.

gunsynd: make it ask if we even want it installed.

That's a must as far as I'm concerned.

IronArcturus: I agree. GOG Galaxy should always be optional, since that's what the GOG devs told us from the beginning.
I do agree with that also.

But on the other hand were talking what a extra 100 MB in size, and literally an extra 3 min or less to uninstall. Nothing is forcing you to keep Galaxy installed to play any game, unless you want MP or access to patches quicker. Should be an option yes when installing AVP, TWAG, ect, but it's really not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things.

Also in my view it's really not anything extra like programs that secretly install stuff like browser add-ons ect as other people have said. If it's need for the game to be 100% functional then it part of the game in my opinion. Do you complain when games install DirectX or whatever else? No because you know it's part of the game & allows you to have a 100% functional game when playing.

I'm not complaining at all, just adding my opinion. Also Galaxy is optional and that's all that mattered to me.

No, but people are paying for games that as it turns out install Galaxy without so much as a by-your-leave. So it's not out of place for GOG's customers to comment and or complain about that.

I guess it's true what they say, that the official language of the internet is hyperbole. Seriously, some negative comments are hardly a lynch-mob. It's useful feedback for GOG, not death threats.

They paid into a game that was a platform to test a test client. :V They signed on willingly for a product that was not feature complete. It'd be like me buying a copy of Dilbert's Desktop Games that came with a free install of ReactOS and I expected that to not have kinks too, despite the latter also being in the alpha phase of development.

And isn't the entire point of this test to, you know, give GOG feedback? Comment on it? It would not be very helpful if everyone just kept their opinion to themselves because it's "not yet ready". It's like seeing a blueprint for your new home, thinking it's ugly, but not bringing that up untill it is already built.

Also, I don't see anything about GOG Galxy on Double Dragon's page. It's not mentioned there at all, so I would not be so sure about that "willingly signing for a feature" thing.

Did GOG ever say if new installers would be released without GOG Galaxy built into them?

Yes, thankfuly.
avatar
Venom: Once the Client is released, game installers will not bundle any additional launchers or other applications.
However, there should for now be some giant, red warning sign on the page of every game that is temporarly bundled with Galaxy installer in my opinion.

AvP 2000 still has the GOG Galaxy program bundled in with the installer. I wish they would release a standalone version soon...

I suppose so, but that's what I'd have the feedback card for after you've run the software for some time. :V

Hey, I'm glad to be warned about the galaxy client installing itself without warning with some games. This way attention was brought to it, community could react, and then GOG staff had the opportuinity to respond and calm everyone that it's a temporary measure, that will be eventually removed. That's better than people randomly finding out for themselves after buying a game, getting angry, and thinking Galaxy will now come with every game from GOG, like it or not.

I think that if GOG is "silently" bundling extra software that installs with your game, even though it isn't mentioned anywhere - IF that is what they are doing - that is despicable.

And just because some software is an "alpha" or "beta" (or whatever other "this is a temoporary thing" name one wants to apply) is NOT an excuse for it.

So GOG - IF you are doing that - SHAME ON YOU.

If Galaxy is in "alpha" and "because" of that you bundle and "force" install it on someone system - then you'd better mention that it gets bundled with whatever titles have it - PROMINENTLY on those game card pages.

This shift towards silent bundling and forced installs is a very bad road for GOG to go down. Turn away from that path now.
