Hi, everyone!

The Galaxy team is hard at work to bring you the Client application that will let you manage your GOG.com games library more conveniently. We’d love for the initial release experience to be as smooth and streamlined as possible for everyone, but releasing an app of this scope is no easy feat.

But before we jump in and hand out the alpha Client, we’d like to set some ground rules.

1) The key word here is ‘alpha’, which means that this is not the final app and not all functionalities are present. The purpose of this test is to evaluate the core tech in the Client on a wider set of computer configurations than what we can locally test on, so only core features are included. Below I will post a detailed list of what is present and what we plan to add in future releases.

2) Alpha also means that you can encounter some unexpected issues. If you have a metered connection (a bandwidth cap or payments per bandwidth used) or you’re currently playing and can’t afford a loss of game time, this might not be for you. In other words, if you want to avoid potential problems with the alpha Client, simply wait for the final release.

3) Please, please, please refrain from posting screenshots, reviews or first impressions, both on our forums or elsewhere, as this is not the final product and many changes will still be made.

Hi everyone,

we've released the 0.7 version a couple of minutes ago, here's the changelog:

- Back/Forward navigation in the Store section
- Import Folder - it is now possible to import a game which is not compatible with the client, by clicking the game in the Library section and choosing ‘Import Folder’ from the More dropdown
- Startup page option - it is now possible to decide if the client should start on LIBRARY page, STORE page, or continue previous session
- Search option - you can press enter in the search field to continue searching in the Store
- Option to Show Game Folder added to MORE menu
- New sidebar sorting options (sort by name)
- External links will now be forwarded to the system browser
- Wishlist option added to the LIBRARY menu
- Community option in the STORE menu
- Forum Replies option in the ACCOUNT menu
- Option to keep saves, when uninstalling a game
- Windows: starting the client when another instance is already running should now open the running instance (rather than displaying error message)
- Improved ‘Last Played’ information, which should now show the time of the user stopped playing the game, rather than started playing the game
- Fixed uninstallation issues on Windows
- Fixed an issue which prevented using Paypal, when buying a game
- Fixed an issue which prevented from displaying Terms and Agreements when registering new account
- Fixed some issues when installing and uninstalling DLCs
- Bugfix: client will now not allow dragging elements onto its window
- Fixed memory leaks, causing to crash the application when downloading lots of games
- Fixed a bug which was causing the client to crash on exit
- Fixed an issue, which sometimes caused the client to duplicate the news on game view

HOW TO IMPORT EXISTING GAMES INSTALLATIONS INTO GALAXY

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the "+" button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library, then click the More button and select "Manage" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

Either of these would be far better than what they have now. I can't help but think something like this is going to turn up eventually before the finished build.

I've never quite liked "In between" styles of browsing. I'd like endless scrolling, or no scrolling at all. If the content can.. sort of.. automatically adjust itself to my windows size horizontally then why not vertically as well?

Indeed, that's what "responsive design" is all about, a design layout seemlessly adapting to the resolution, orientation, physical size of the device it is being displayed on, and adapting itself as the device is rotated, the window is resized etc. to always try to present the best view for the device.

The pagination issue is just a human interface design issue though, although a rather trivial one to change. I do hope one of the next few builds includes the replacement library view(s) previously mentioned and modernizes it with sensible HID principles though to replace the placeholder.
So telepath tactics got updated with a new installer instead of a patch. My Galaxy client however is not updating this automatically. So I guess I have to download manually?

POLE7645: OK. It's probably a stupid question, but I wonder.

Every freeware game on GOG got an update for some reason. Was there an actual update for those games (and if yes, what were the changes), or was it Galaxy acting up weird?

Edit: Shadow Warrior Classic (even though I'm not on Linux) and Rise of the Triad 2013 are tagged too. What the hell?

Re-Edit: Akalabeth and Alien vs Predator Classic 2000 too. This is an epidemic!
Shadow Warrior Classic had the Linux version added and hence the reason it was flagged as being updated :)

There are no "updated" flags in your Galaxy library. If there is an update for your game Galaxy will download it automatically if you have it enabled. If you have auto updates disabled, you will get a flag in the Galaxy sidebar if you have the game installed.

The "updated" count in Galaxy library is just a small bug, we need to remove it :)

Thanks for explanation... but I still can't see any kind of "update activity" for games mentioned above - like e.g. appearence in the queue (I'm also downloading some games in the meantime), restart of Galaxy did not helped...

p.s. also that you replied me was not shown in Galaxy either.. (but don't know if it should in the current version ;) )

Thanks for the alpha invite, which was unexpected - I've had a play around and the client in general is fairly easy to use, the layout is functional and clear and is definitely something that I will use even in the alpha state. In terms of usability, there are a couple of features that could be made more obvious to users. One is the location for downloads and temporary files - it's great that this can be changed, but the default location is on C:\. A lot of people (myself included) have a small SSD with the OS installed on it, so would want to use another drive. I'd suggest that as part of the setup process that you put a screen in to prompt the user to change the location, as not everyone will think of this.

The other is adding non-galaxy games - this is easy enough, but you have to click through a couple of levels of menus to find it, and again it would be worth drawing attention to the feature. Also, I haven't added any of my modded games yet, since I assume modded files will be overwritten - any chance we could have the option to just add a game launcher without doing all the scans (similar to Steam's add non-Steam launcher feature)?

I have had just one glitch so far. When adding my install of Outlast (+DLC), the client started installing the 2010 redistributables package, and threw an error message saying that MS Visual C++ 2010 had failed to install. The client then insisted that my Outlast install was broken and greyed out the "play" button. I checked by launching the game from my old shortcut, and it works fine. It's entirely beyond my technical skills to know whether this is an issue with the client or my system - I'm sure someone will know better!

Oddly, when I added Shadow Warrior (the remake), the same error occurred, but the client then reported no problems with the installation, so I can launch it from the client.

If it helps I've got an Intel Core I7 2600K CPU, Nvidia GTX570 1.2Gb graphics card, 8Gb RAM and Windows 7.

Apart from that it all looks very promising!
I've noticed that when viewing content from Youtube that the option to go Fullscreen doesn't exist yet. I hope the option to go Fullscreen gets added as you can do this on GOG.com's Website and it has proven very useful in helping me to make purchasing decisions for games you are selling. Please add FULLSCREEN Mode with Youtube in the GOG Galaxy Client !!!!!!

Try exiting Galaxy completely and then opening it up again, see if that helps :)
I am getting a flagged virus statement from Avast! Free Anti-Virus. Indicating that the GalaxyClient.exe has the infection Win32:MalOb-IJ[Cryp] there doesn't seem to be any way to white list the executable in Avast that I can find (then again, I've never had a need to white list anything in my Anti-virus.) If anyone can help me out I would be very appreciative.

The redistributables ran for me with both of these games, too, and no errors were reported. However, the Play button for Outlast is greyed-out ('Installation Broken') and when I run the game outside the launcher it works just fine.

My system specs are similar enough to yours (Intel i7-2630QM @2.00GHz, Nvidia GTX460M, 8 GB RAM, Win 7 x64). It's really queer that the redistributables run again and, honestly, I'd like to know why this is the case.

When it comes to Outlast I'm inclined to think that it's just not compatible yet, even though it's listed as such. And this is strange. Out of the 203 virtual boxes in my account there is only one box that is listed as 'Not Yet Available': Penumbra - Requiem.

Update #1
-Verify and Repair option does not fix the issue.
-I am now trying a clean install, per the reporting mantis.gog.com.

Update #2
-Redistributables 'failed to install correctly' for on a fresh install.
-On restart of computer/client Outlast re-ran redistributables and they installed correctly, however the entry still lists the game as unplayable and 'Installation Broken'

At this point it's clear that Outlast is incompatible with this iteration GOG Galaxy.

I found where the problem was for me - it was because I was downloading other games... once all downloads were finished, it started to update Telepath Tactics ... but no update for Hotline Miami 2 yet, and on Kerbal library page it says "UPDATES NOT MANAGED BY GOG GALAXY", can't "verify/repair", only "show folder" or "uninstall" is possible...


edit/update: on my notebook, where no downloads were in progress, updates work flawlessly, see attached image..

That probably means there letting the built in updater do the updating then rather than Galaxy itself, click More than launcher. That sucks though because the launcher is horrible and has completely broken for me.
