Hi, everyone!

The Galaxy team is hard at work to bring you the Client application that will let you manage your GOG.com games library more conveniently. We’d love for the initial release experience to be as smooth and streamlined as possible for everyone, but releasing an app of this scope is no easy feat.

But before we jump in and hand out the alpha Client, we’d like to set some ground rules.

1) The key word here is ‘alpha’, which means that this is not the final app and not all functionalities are present. The purpose of this test is to evaluate the core tech in the Client on a wider set of computer configurations than what we can locally test on, so only core features are included. Below I will post a detailed list of what is present and what we plan to add in future releases.

2) Alpha also means that you can encounter some unexpected issues. If you have a metered connection (a bandwidth cap or payments per bandwidth used) or you’re currently playing and can’t afford a loss of game time, this might not be for you. In other words, if you want to avoid potential problems with the alpha Client, simply wait for the final release.

3) Please, please, please refrain from posting screenshots, reviews or first impressions, both on our forums or elsewhere, as this is not the final product and many changes will still be made.

Hi everyone,

we've released the 0.7 version a couple of minutes ago, here's the changelog:

- Back/Forward navigation in the Store section
- Import Folder - it is now possible to import a game which is not compatible with the client, by clicking the game in the Library section and choosing ‘Import Folder’ from the More dropdown
- Startup page option - it is now possible to decide if the client should start on LIBRARY page, STORE page, or continue previous session
- Search option - you can press enter in the search field to continue searching in the Store
- Option to Show Game Folder added to MORE menu
- New sidebar sorting options (sort by name)
- External links will now be forwarded to the system browser
- Wishlist option added to the LIBRARY menu
- Community option in the STORE menu
- Forum Replies option in the ACCOUNT menu
- Option to keep saves, when uninstalling a game
- Windows: starting the client when another instance is already running should now open the running instance (rather than displaying error message)
- Improved ‘Last Played’ information, which should now show the time of the user stopped playing the game, rather than started playing the game
- Fixed uninstallation issues on Windows
- Fixed an issue which prevented using Paypal, when buying a game
- Fixed an issue which prevented from displaying Terms and Agreements when registering new account
- Fixed some issues when installing and uninstalling DLCs
- Bugfix: client will now not allow dragging elements onto its window
- Fixed memory leaks, causing to crash the application when downloading lots of games
- Fixed a bug which was causing the client to crash on exit
- Fixed an issue, which sometimes caused the client to duplicate the news on game view

HOW TO IMPORT EXISTING GAMES INSTALLATIONS INTO GALAXY

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the "+" button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library, then click the More button and select "Manage" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

Paul31286: It seems like Galaxy currently does not check whether there's enough disk space available before installing a game. I just had a corrupted and unfinished installation because of this. Also, when downloading extras, Galaxy does not check whether some of the files you're trying to download are maybe already present in the download location, and just re-downloads everything.

The GOG Downloader has both of these features (checked available disk space and whether the files are already there), so I'm wondering if I'm encountering bugs, or if these features have yet to be added.

Fallen_Zen: The download size check should be working, we'll look into it.
I was able to reproduce the issue, and figured out the reason. When installing a game, Galaxy first allocates the necessary disk space, and then downloads the files. If, however, the download fails for any reason (in my case, it got corrupted somehow), and you tell Galaxy to "Verify/repair" the files or you simply restart Galaxy, it will attempt to allocate the disk space a second time without clearing out the previously allocated space, which in my case led to an error about not having enough disk space.

skeletonbow: A rule inserted into the Windows firewall will do the trick for now. :) A future update of the client will almost certainly have that feature built into it though. :)

Hey there.

I have gotten an invitation for the Galaxy Client and the code via email. The mail specifically mentioned Rise of the Triad (2013) and its multiplayer functions. The game doesn't run on my laptop though and that is the computer connected to the internet. That means of course that I wouldn't be able to offer user statistics about playing said game online.

My question is whether I should take part in the Galaxy Alpha regardless, or if my participation would only bog down the system.

DCT: You can already do this. Just either go to the game's page via your libary and click on it or if you already have the game installed just click it on the side bar. There next to the Install/play button there is a button marked More there just select extras and you will see the Installer

One more thing: Wasteland 2 artwork isn't displaying at all. Either in the sidebar or as the page's background.

There's definitely some room for improvement when it comes to what's placed where. But that's relatively unimportant compared to the fundamental functionality. Which in my experience does seem to be pretty much there.

Agreed.

Also it's not just Wasteland 2 that has that issue I also have that issue with Ys 1 and 2 which is weird since we had that(the icons and background images) at least for Ys 1 and 2 in the previous version.

I have to say Galaxy is FANTASTIC, it's exactly what GOG needs and I intend to launch all my games through it. SOme recommendations would be to seperate the community tab rom the store tab and add a friendslist that we can use. Can't wait for more updates!

ALSO on the games list put hours played under then instead of last played.

it means it's not yet supported, there's like 60 or less games last I recall that still aren't yet supported by Galaxy. Keep in mind it was not that long ago 600 games.

Friends list is coming, when not sure but it's on the to do list.

Given my ongoing issues with being unable to completely download any games, I decided to uninstall and re-install the Client.

Firstly, a lot of my game icons lost their graphics (see attached). Igot a meessage saying that "some elements could not be removed" and that they could be removed manually, but no clue as to what these elements were! The Gog.com folder in ProgramData had not been deleted so I removed that. I also notcied that the GalaxyCommunication service was still installed but stopped. Any clues as to what else might have been left behind would be useful as my problem still appears to exist.


Alan Wake is currently "updating" with a 9.7Gb download and it's currently stuck at 99.9% (6.1Mb):

Whilst Destro could only find two logs reporting this issue, I've noticed several posts where people have mentioned being unable to install one game or another, so it seems I have an extreme case of what to others is an intermittent glitch.

Can I PLEASE ask anyone who experiences this sticking of game downloads to either open a new case or feel free to add a note to mine: http://mantis.gog.com/view.php?id=1391

Is there currently a way to navigate to a specific page in your library, if it runs over multiple pages, or do I just have to scroll down, hit the arrow and repeat that on every subsequent page?

While the Galaxy launcher is very fast, I would like to be able to go to a page of my choosing because sometimes I might be on page 4 of my library, I'll check out the store page of a game to see its details, screenshots, file size etc. and when I hit the library button it puts me right back at page 1 of my library.

It's not terribly inconvenient but it slows me down a bit.

Scroll down to the bottom of the page, where the numbers will read "1 of 5" (in my case). Just type the page you want to go to over the 1, that's an active box. It works the same way for the reviews on the main site game pages, too.

It's just a placeholder, but hopefully the next update addresses this and makes all-on-one-page the default as it is in all other game clients. If pagination is left in at all, hopefully it is non-default and configurable, and has controls that comply to modern human interface design guidelines though. I'm thinking either something like:

[First] [Prev] 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 [Next] [Last]

or

[First] [Prev] A B C D E F G H I J K L M N O P Q R S T U V W X Y Z [Next] [Last]

Also, with the ability to configure how many items per page a person wants to see. I'll configure that option to be 10,000,000,000,000 items per page personally but that is just me. :)

I never noticed that. I think it's because the background in the box is the same colour as that of the page, so I would never have assumed it was something you could interact with.
