Let me know when they do a version that don't just update the graphics.
It makes perfect sense for them to be on Steam now.
Steam's drm will be barely noticeable with the always online direction.
Massive backlash right now for them because they weren't intending on handing out Steam keys to people who already bought the game. They've since restated to say they're 'looking into it', though still no confirmation.

Why it is not surprising that FD earn another backlash?

After they said that ED will not come to steam, and people bought it there instead of waiting for the steam version......

Oh well, why I am fussing over his credibility?

To be fair, in that interview he said:

Will you launch the game on Steam?

David Braben: No. We've got to support the game with our own back end anyway, so I don't see the benefit of it.

Well, I would suggest the benefit is 100m users, which is a huge potential audience.

David Braben: Yes, that's true. It's something we would look at, but it would have to then interface with what we're doing, and the two would potentially conflict. We have to provide the back end.
The game "launched" so his comment is accurate. Yes, he used typical "weasel words" after that, but he clearly didn't say it was not coming to Steam ("It's something we would look at..") - only that it wasn't going to be at launch. Which it now isn't..

I'd have to call BS. If you have to ask two questions 'Launch' and 'bring' to steam and you get two different answers then it clearly shouldn't. The statement looks and clearly seems to be they aren't bringing it to steam period...

Of course if we're using the 'weasel words' as you put it, then it's all about half truths, and if you're only talking in half truths by omitting such basic information with the implication of something else, then you're basically lying.

So far this company has no loyalty or interest from me, and there's a chance i'd boycott them for this shoddy behavior.

It will be not so bad if the give steam keys to early adopters rather than "considering now"

After all steam do not charge a penny for generating extra keys.

Why not do so? Maybe it has something to do with the phobia of reselling games? Do not trust his kickstarter backers enough not to sell the steam keys?

Yes I do not believe that the game cannot be "Launch" on steam. If there are a lot of technical difficulties and things incompatible with steam, just make a simple program to launch Elite Dangerous client from steam. The technical difficulties is almost zero as people can already add non-steam game on steam library.

So it is just a matter of want or not. Why not just say not now but will in the future.
Or is it because he know it is not ready for steam, but want people to pay for beta that is called "release", before truly releasing it on steam now that he is confident the game is beef up enough.

I am sorry, I seem to have a very negative perception of FD, so what I said may be overboard.

rtcvb32: Considering this is a kickstarter project, i have to wonder what will happen. Will they not be allowed on any crowd funding site again?
They absolutely will be, Kickstarter has very low requirements for entry. The burden of proof is on backers/detractors to persuade Kickstarter the project is going to damage the credibility of Kickstarter itself. Accepting responsibility for a project creator acting in bad faith opens them to litigation.
