yogsloth: (Note to self, next modded game, “roll” Vig to trent, Krypsyn, AND adalia, hijinks ensue.)
I'm sad now. I don't get to have vig "rolled" to me too?

Ixamyakxim: The broken links were a lovely touch.
Let's see if this fixes the links. I don't know why they didn't work the first time.

"I've been [url=http://www.gog.com/forum/general/forum_mafia_31_crisis_at_space_station_epsilon/post1383]a [url=http://www.gog.com/forum/general/forum_mafia_31_crisis_at_space_station_epsilon/post1440]of things, especially about claimed abilities."

The linking isn't working in my preview (stuff is being added to the url for some reason), so the post numbers are 1354, 1383, 1438, 1440, and 1451.

Ixamyakxim: As far as what can go wrong with a Crisis Event, and why we should avoid them (I know you're so eager to see them through)

1) We don't know how difficult they are and despite our best efforts we could still fail them...
2) ... If we fail them, we already can't lynch scummy players - now we have a reason to distrust our townie players as well (Oh snap you failed that crisis event! Scum!!!)
3) We don't know how many of these we face, and every time we volunteer a player to go on one, we are telling scum "Please night kill me I have good X stats!" By the late game, we're going to be in trouble.
1) If even our best efforts could fail them, then the whole event concept is broken. The obvious conclusion, then, is that if townies with high relevant stats are assigned to each event, then we will succeed. If random extra town(ies) can be killed each day with town having no say or way to avoid it, then town has a severe handicap.
2) If we already can't lynch scummy players, then we won't be lynching players that fail events. Or is failing an event something besides scummy?
3) If scum are solely killing people that have high stats, then so much the better for us. They aren't choosing based on things that are in all likely hood more dangerous to them ("Hay guyz! Lets kill the high int player instead of that cop or tracker!"). If we get to late game and still have no idea who the scum are, then we're in trouble anyway.

CarrionCrow: Still can't help but think that Quad is putting information in somehow, though.
Wouldn't be the first time a mod has inserted references into flavor (yogsloth), but it could too easily be just reading into it. Personally, I don't think dedo being named like that means anything special.

avatar
JMich: Who would a redirector go after? My block was verified by my target, HijacK claims he didn't block anyone.
Not enough information for me to know; I just recall you positing the idea previously.

Perhaps a bus driver swapped agent (known tracker) with someone they thought suspicious (drealmer) while hoping scum would try and kill agent, and it turns out drealmer is scum lying about being blocked. Yes, this sounds more convoluted; I'm providing a scenario, not backing this particular theory.

How certain are you that you weren't redirected n some fashion?
avatar
Bookwyrm627: Not enough information for me to know; I just recall you positing the idea previously.
I did. When the roleblocker I knew of was only me, and drealmer7 hadn't mentioned being blocked. So the thought was that it is possible my role block was redirected elsewhere. Once my block proved to have hit its intended target, the redirect approach seems to be highly unlikely.

avatar
Bookwyrm627: How certain are you that you weren't redirected n some fashion?
As certain as any can be. Drealmer7's flavor seems to match my PM, so it seems highly likely that he did get my block.

That's what comes of using LaTeX too much. You end up with a \ instead of a /.

C'est la vie.

yogsloth: I don’t understand this post, but I make it a “life rule” not to associate with people who, at any point in their daily lives, feel they run the risk of “too much latex”. When one is measuring one’s amount of latex, the “too much” line has long since been crossed. Nothing personal. I’ll just ask you to sit over there, and try to squeak a little less.

It's a mathematical typesetting program. I'd explain further, but I won't, considering the ever-present omniscience of Big Brother Google. Find it yourself.

-RESUME ROLEPLAY-

On the subject of these so-called 'hologram guards' that Q.U.A.D. is asking us to sneak past and deactivate, am I the only one who thinks that we may be going about this hard way?

After all, if the unit has self-activated, presumably it's automatically connected itself to the ship's networks as it should, in which case, someone who has experience with computers (like myself) should be able to make their way through any possible security measures and deactivate it remotely.

Either that or we could turn the sprinklers on and try to fry the thing.

Or just shove it out the airlock and ignore it.

But heck! Let's try to navigate our way through a labyrinth of lethal hard-lights, find the correct storage container while dodging who knows what, and then deactivate the thing by hand.
Like, we could even shoot it if it comes to that, instead of trying to save it! And then we'd only need one dude with a pistol instead of two trained engineers.

Also, why are they sending us games units with lethal programs on them?

...I knew there was something I should be paying attention to this morning. Post merges.

Bookwyrm has -1 to STR until the end of Day 3!

To say nothing of the fact that I've forgotten to state Post #2 has been updated with the most recent provisional team. If there are to be no further changes, I could close the selection process tonight, making the old deadline the new resolution time.

Q.U.A.D., I think that is the best suggestion you have made yet.

Agreed. Cutting down that four day wait however possible is a very, very good thing.

I actually hadn't thought of you as scummy (and still don't think you're that much so), but what pray tell in my post is so controversial? What tipped you over the edge NOW, as opposed to two days ago when I had a larger / equal wagon and we could have avoided a Crisis Event? Why did you edit out Bookwyrm's post where he talks about his preloaded claim?

Scum already didn't kill our tracker day one. You soft claimed a role and I'm sure as hell they aren't killing you tonight either. We have two role blockers, and a maybe cop and to be honest I'm not even sure if they're in danger tonight.

As far as your false claim that the events are broken if we can fail them by our best efforts - of course we can. We don't know all the scum and could include one. We don't know who has high stats and how high they are with perfect certainty nor should we (I bet you'd love to continue stat fishing like you were doing before). We don't know the final "score" needed to beat the events, or if that score will become more and more difficult.

All we know is that they're bad, and we have a few people pushing for them.
avatar
Ixamyakxim:
Would be willing to bank on the crisis events getting more difficult as the game goes on. As a story, it wouldn't make sense to take the feeling of danger away by adding something like "make coffee before the crew gets cranky" after the whole murderous hologram thing.
Also, the more people die, the closer the game gets to resolution. Pretty sure Quad isn't wanting a game that runs until the end of the year.
Figuring the difficulty will increase, causing someone to die during one of them. From there, it'll be as Yogsloth mentioned, trying to figure out how the event went wrong.
