Yes. Duke Nukem could fly today.

People loved the most recent Doom because it went back to its roots for gameplay. If a new Duke Nukem came out with great, fast-paced action gameplay that was on par with the most recent Doom the game would be a big success.

Steam has chosen to support the First Amendment and allow developers to publish their content, so the game would simply side-step the cry babies in the media and sell a ton of copies to the people who buy and play games.

fronzelneekburm: The idea that video games are a tool for a male-dominated industry to brainwash kids into becoming sexists <snip>

Fairfox: yah if you strip nuance out
Sorry, that's exactly what you said. Maybe you meant it differently than how I interpreted it. Allow me to quote your post, I'll highlight the relevant parts:

Fairfox: i think anythang in decades-long male-dominated industries taht push certain ideas to a wide an'—in this medium—usual lee young impressionable audience (an' imma talkin' misogyny even if tongue firm lee innnn teh cheek-hole liek duke-y, or anythang else along teh same lines liek toxic masculinity... which is negative fooor males as well as others #obvskobvs) can deffo shape perceptions an' how peeps interact with those taht are diff'rent to themselves in a wider society, re: realitiea naht virtual.
That leaves very little room for nuance. You're basically saying that these games "deffo" brainwash their audience into becoming sexists (or misogyinists, racists, whateverists), even if the content is clearly meant as a joke.

It's literally the same argument I heard regurgitated in the German mainstream media, especially during the 2000s. Every single time there was a school shooting, it was always blamed on Counterstrike. Every-single-time. When some kid shot up his school in Erfurt, the media was all over the fact that he had CS on his computer but rarely ever brought up the fact that he was kicked out of school shortly before graduation and was completely and utterly fucked for life. But why bring up something like that when "violent games create violent people" is such an easy narrative to push? And this narrative was usually pushed by conservative outlets. You know, the stuffy old guys who wouldn't even know how to switch off a computer other than unplugging it. And now here we are, a decade and a half later, and I'm seeing the exact same narrative getting picked up by the supposed "progressives". Only that the focus has shifted from violence to sexism. Now instead of "violent games create violent people" we have "sexist games create sexist people". And the argument sounds just as bogus to me as it did 15 years ago and I can't help but wonder how we ended up with this role reversal.

thomq: Well, if children are so impressionable (especially male children rather than female children?!), then maybe children ought not be encouraged to believe in Santa Claus.

Besides, Duke Nukem is more than enough of a replacement.

devoras: Indeed, we shouldn't harm children by encouraging them to believe in any pure fantasy, such as Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, or the god of the Bible.
There, fixed it for you.

It's funny how the OP started a seemingly objective thread, and then when people provided thoughtful responses which were different from her obvious viewpoint, she began analyzing their vocabulary in terms of political correctness and throwing in her own tiresome terms (misogyny, toxic masculinity). Here's some terms this brings to my mind: agenda, man-hater, troll.

A new Duke Nukem? I would buy it immediately, and the more non-PC it was, the better I would like it. If my opinion gets your panties in a bunch, then you are a pussy.

I genuinely came into this thread to have a look at the debate, but really couldn't get beyond the OP. I mean, surely it's more time consuming and difficult to deliberately type like that than using proper grammar and spelling?

Sounds like you'd like the guy who's been trolling recently.
Looking forward to see good old Duke back on GOG and crossing my fingers for imminent Duke Nukem Forever GOG release. I remember how I was disappointed when Manhattan Project comes out. Doesn't feel that bad now, I'd say it's quite good despite being platformer.
..and let us hope old DNF builds will leak someday : )

Damn, I'm looking good!

True, you can add religion to the list as well.

Santa and the Easter Bunny on the other hand do exist... I've seen them.

tinyE: So help me god if one more person uses the term "SJW" I'm going to blow my brains out.
Honestly, if I hear one more person use the term "toxic masculinity" I'M going to blow my brains out. I'm a man. I like man things. I don't mind being the handy man. I don't mind being the "reacher of high objects," and I don't mind being a provider, working towards what my personal dreams and goals are and being career orientated. I'm tired of being maligned by people who don't have those same goals, dreams or ideologies, despite me having no ill will or rancor towards other males who don't share my core values or personal moral stances.

It's okay to subsist however you want to friggin' subsist, and I'm not out here shaming people for not being a traditional male. Live and let live and stop trying to decide what's best for my gender, for phooey's sake. Stick to your own lanes and do better for yourselves. (This is just a general feelings post, not targeted specifically at you, tinyE. You know I still appreciate you, even if we almost never agree on anything.) :P

Sandwichius, LAMEMAN Russ, Robot Goldenskin, Rogaine Dork. Man, I don't even think Grimdark would support that level of horror.
Oh lord, I practically spit out my Propel. +1 to you, good sir.
