rampancy: Also, I'm really excited to see Turok 2 coming to GOG.
I am waiting for that too... Turok 2 was one of the first games I played when I came back to playing, or even using a PC, after some kind of hiatus. I remember watching it in a computer shop, and I have some pretty memories of LAN parties attached to it. I didn't go very far and I would like to revisit it, so I am very glad to know that it's coming, even though no release date is given, not even an estimate. But I hope that the pricing will be more proportionate this time... Thanks to tfishell for posting the link.
Also, Killing Time and Chasm: The Rift look very nteresting, at least for an FPS fan like me, and I wouldn't mind seeing them released on GOG, even though I wouldn't put them at the top of my wishlist.

I doubt it. One of the developers of the Remastered version of Turok theorized that Night Dive put such an expensive price on the game, because the revenue was going to be split between 5 companies (2 of them the license holders of the Turok property). I wouldn't be surprised if Turok 2 was actually more expensive than the first one.

No one asked about the status of Powerslave EX, a pity.

Alas, I'm afraid you're right. At least we have an explanation. But I'll definitely wait for a sale, sorry...

Another interesting FPS of yore, together with the aforementioned two. But if they ever release it, I hope they fix the issues with strafing and mouselook I read about in a review.
ND released "Tender Loving Care, a psychological thriller FMV starring John Hurt" on Steam too. It looks ... cleavage-y.

Also Space Rogue is now on Steam.

"... we so far have the confirmation that Witchaven games are coming (maybe there is a chance for Corridor 7 too, since it was made by same dev),
Forsaken was confirmed some time ago, possibly as a remaster: http://shaneplays.com/fragments-of-silicon-night-dive-studios-classic-games/
"Yes, Good chance of updated version of Forsaken (1998). Acclaim’s version of Descent but “way prettier”."
Some less than happy news from that same link:

"Azrael’s Tear looked into briefly by Night Dive Studios but no progress made.

Old FASA Games: Mechwarrior, Mech Commander, etc? Night Dive has looked into them but the rights are spread across several entities."

But this was some time ago so it is possible that they made some progress in the meantime."

fortune_p_dawg: It'd definitely be cool to see the Witchaven titles here!
Those games actually have their source code public, believe it or not, shame that noone has bothered making a source port.

Good idea. However I genuinely want to promote Pajama Sam and the other Humongous games.

andysheets1975: It sounds like a mealy-mouthed way of saying that they think the original is just too old and graphically primitive to make money?
avatar
tfishell: I'm pretty sure it's that, and I don't think I can necessarily blame them. GOG has probably rejected games for similar reasons.
I don't honestly see anything wrong with "remaking" it with modern graphical capabilities, as long as the core mechanics and content isn't changed in a way that isn't strictly for modern ease of use, like control updates that weren't commonplace during a game's original heyday. My problem is when people take a classic game and change the original content for "modern" audiences without thought for intent of the original creators, or because they pretentiously think they can "make it better." This includes adding content that wasn't originally cut from the game, and/or new characters that don't necessarily fit the theme, or mechanics that don't belong in the game type.

I agree, especially if the original game doesn't run well/easily on modern systems.
Development on the latest System Shock remaster is now on hiatus for an indefinite period of time:

“As our concept grew and as our team changed, so did the scope of what we were doing and with that the budget for the game,” Kick said. “As the budget grew, we began a long series of conversations with potential publishing partners. The more that we worked on the game, the more that we wanted to do, and the further we got from the original concepts that made System Shock so great.”
