EndreWhiteMane: I have a bad feeling that's exactly the case, it is with mine so far.
Every game I've tried to import from the installer has re-downloaded.
avatar
CarrionCrow: Uh uh. No way. Even at top speed for my connection, that would be 441 hours, doing nothing else that uses bandwidth during the redownload.
This will be interesting. The games you and I have downloaded are not updated for Galaxy.
They need to implement an incremental download for this not to kill us.
avatar
moonshineshadow: Yeah it seems like the games need to be put in some kind of galaxy format so everything is downloaded again...
avatar
EndreWhiteMane: Which again means double downloads if we want to keep a standalone as a backup. :-(
OR, on newer purchases, we'll download the installer and have to 'import' from there.
Most people will use it like the Steam client and not keep a backup.
Great for newbies but sucks to be us;)
I think what happened was they updated the games to be compatibile with Galaxy, so you can keep the new "Galaxy" versions as your standalone backup because it's going to be the same ones that are on the website. So you won't have to keep two backups, because they are both standalone, it's just the newer downloads are made to be able to download from Galaxy, and not just the website.

Or at least that's how I've come to understand it after reading through.

Thing is many of us have downloaded nearly a TB of 'older' installers already.
These will need to be downloaded again to get the 'galaxy version' of the installers. ouch

We are talking about installers. GOG galaxy updates installed games, so they are no use as standalone installers.

ElTerprise: Hi *welcome hug* :
Doing good here - how are you ?
All is well here, it's cool, cloudy and overcast with a hint of sprinkles in the air,
and I'm reading through the comments, about the Galaxy Client, which I'm mostly interested
in the "chat" feature as. I only download games manually through the browser one at a time.

on a side note.. I've recently been going through old game save files recently, found my old Icewind and Baldur's Gate ones, and quite a few games I didn't know I had (and can no longer find the discs) as well. heh!

Oohhh, I see, I get what you mean now. Yeah that would be annoying. I personally hadn't used GOG much so I only had Torchlight installed, until the other day when I installed the X-Wing series through Galaxy, so that wasn't a problem for me. And I guess the verify install thing doesn't work to just install the Galaxy related content, does it?

Oh okay. Yeah I understand what you two are saying now.

There can't be that many games with multi-player that will be tied into the Galaxy Client though...
at least for now.

It's definitely a crappy thought, having to download everything again. Think I'm going to hold off on that part of things for a bit, see what they implement before jumping into that pain in the ass.

I would think we would be notified with a flag of which games have updates, and then we could choose which ones we want to update, when we want them to start, and how many we wish to download at one time?

It's not just about MP, it's about the updating and such. The installer will have to be 'galaxy compatible' just to install and update the game via Galaxy.
Good afternoon hunger dogs.

Welp, the client is going into beta, I wonder if the sudden increase in client requests will rape the servers.

Anyone remember my last bout of rage with DS1 on Steam? No? Well there were problems with the online mode. The problems remain, but I've discovered a nifty little program that tells me if there are any peers in the lobby or if I'm completely alone, FOREVER.

DS has horrible netcode.

Okay let's see what have you people and other things been up to.

The thing is:
1. at the moment you need to disable / enable auto-updates for every game seperatly. And normally it is enabled. If you disable it, you get a notification if updates arrive and can do them manually
2. for games to be integrated into your galaxy library, you need to either download them through galaxy or import an installed version from your pc. If you import galaxy will automatically update to make the game galaxy compatible which can be quite a huge amount of data.

Good afternoon! :)

We shall see what the new Galaxy Client holds for the future, in both features and critiques, soon enough. :D
Is anyone else having trouble accessing the general discussion forums?
I keep getting an error code 500.
