Shock2k11: What ATI problem, I got RADEON HD 4850 and I have 0 issues
I have a MBP with Quad core 2.2GHZ, ATI Radeon 6750M and 4 GB of Ram, I should be able to play this game at least on low with 30+ FPS... but im getting 20fps while overclocking... this is CONSTANT throughout the different settings available... I dont know maybe its just me. I'm enjoying the game a lot, but I just really want the hotfix to increase some of the problems... Also for example, if I play a video file, then go play the game afterwards, the game is ENTIRELY foggy, can't see anything... full restart is needed. It's really annoying...
you got some messed up problem buddy, I got a Radeon HD 4850 and have 0 problems with the game. Maybe you're not turning off something that can slow it down or turning the graphics down enough. Example shadows
TW2 did create a name for itself. Other RPG developer will have a hard time beating TW2 now.
No offense but RPGs like Arcanum, Fallout and Baldurs gate ruined the whole RPG genre for me. I can't think of a single RPG i played in the last few years without thinking "Meh I still rather just reinstall one of the good old classics once agaiN".
I have to totally agree with this... I thought the Witcher was ranging somewhere between "okay" and "good" because I didn't particularly like most of the main characters, characterization and the many technical issues from the same-ish NPCs to loading times etc. (I guess they did their best with the rather shitty Neverwinter Engine) but Witcher 2 blows any RPG I've played in a while out of the water (so far) :P
Good job CDPR.

Although I don't know why you're hating on Risen, calling it a "buggy mess" xD

Edit: Ya... Baldur's Gate... some of the Ultima parts and even Gothic 1+2 etc. "spoiled" us I guess but "The Witcher 2" almost seems like a "new age" BG2, I hope the sales live up to the quality.

I agree Risen on the PC wasn't bad I actually enjoy playing it for a week from beginning to end before the Witcher 2 came out. Now Gothic 4 wasn't even really Gothic game anymore, Dragon Age 2 just felt like an action adventure game with limited gear, and the story wasn't nearly as epic as the first Dragon Age.

Now I feel like I been spoiled by a mature game like the Witcher 2 no other game on the market would use so many colorful words in their games, or have actual nudity done in a tasteful manner.

mystral: Having just finished the game, I have to say I just don't get the people who claim it's the best RPG ever or the people who hate it. To me it's a very good RPG with some flaws (the auto-targeting system sucks, a few annoying bugs, not enough sidequests, among other things), but not necessarily better than Risen (depending on your side of the debate between linear story and exploration), and it's definitely not as good as Dragon Age to me.

Comparing it to DA 2 is a bit disingenuous considering that game was widely acknowledged as mediocre at best. I would've been really disappointed if The Witcher 2 wasn't a lot better than that.
I agree with your opinion.
But it seems that, here, when you say that TW2 is not the best game ever you're immediately attacked by the TW "Zealots" ;)

Got to watch out for them damn Zealots .. they'll burn ya every time.

There are too many different types of RPGs. Witcher 1&2 are action RPGs like Gothic. For me, neither is the best RPG I ever played - but it IS the best action RPG I played. Ultima VII was more enjoyable for me, for example, but is more focused on exploration & freedom, .

Same here I also would rate Ultima 7 higher than any other of the newer action RPGs due to the free world aspect while still having a dense story and environment (and the story was mature as well). The game coming closest to Ultima 7 to me was more or less Gothic 2.
The game is amazing. The level of realization in the game is unprecedented. It feels the most alive of any game world I've ever experienced. They must have had an entire team just to put all the little details into the environments. The game is also a trial by fire. I made a post about how I was disappointed by the combat . Geralt gets juggled very easily by multiple foes early on and it leads to some serious frustration, but I now retract my displeasure in the combat because it does get better as you level. I followed the swordsmanship path and pretty soon was having little to no difficulty dispatching my foes. And that was the only complaint I had. So this game easily makes it into my top 10 of all time. I really hope they can keep up this level of quality. If potential investors would just play this game CDPR would have more money than they knew what to do with. In fact, I'm going to go start a second playthrough right now.

EDIT: The voice acting also blew me away and I'm a HUGE critic when it comes to voice-work.

Pioneer161: I was disappointed with modern RPGs and Dragon Age 2. It's dated visuals, bland story and forgettable characters made me drop it fairly quick. Mass Effect is becoming more like a shooter to appease the players who have no interest in RPGs to begin with. Risen and Gothic 4 were both buggy and unpolished.

Spending an entire day roaming the forest, taking time to explore every nook and cranny, complete any and all tasks available, scour vendors for recipes for traps, bombs, swords and other disposal methods is not something I have done since Morrowind and the days of Baldur's Gate. The detailed environments coloured me awestruck; that this came out the same year as Dragon Age 2 is somewhat of a harsh slap to Bioware. The colourful characters, twisting story, plethora of strategies and smooth animations bring together the sum of its parts to create something truly wondrous.

I've only just completed Chapter 1 and I'm reticent to continue as it draws me closer to the end. I'm adamant that each RPG I player hereon will be compared to The Witcher 2.

GG CDPR.
Agree fully. I had forgotten how engrossing RPGs can be until I played this. Best RPG since KotOR.
I suspect the only real competition Witcher 2 will have is Skyrim as ME 3 is probably going to be more Shooter then RPG and Deus Ex is probably the same.

It should be interesting to see Witcher 2 Vs Skyrim though, Bethesda RPGs still havent alienated most RPG fans and Oblivion remains the highest selling RPG if Im not mistaken. Good luck to CDPR in that fight
For me:

DA:O = 9.2

DA:2 = 6.5

TW1 EE = 8.4

TW2 = 9.3* (not final, will be adjusted once I finish the game)
