I seem to be suffering a fair amount of crashes with this. I have a pretty stable system and crashing isn't generally something I have to put up with but with this one they come at about 5-10 minutes of play.

I've done the usual, run as admin and set the compatibilty.. but it doesn't seem to help?

Anyone else?

HI :)

Yeah, tried all that. no luck :(

It's crashing every 30 seconds now. :(

A real pity.. I was enjoying it for the amount I'd played.

I just tried this on my Asus G73 w/Nvidia 460m and 268.30 drivers and it worked fine. No issues and I did not do anything special, just a straight install, did not check any compatibilty stuff, just let the GOG installer run. I get a choice of various modes, including 2 HAL moves and 2 460M choices (couldn;t see any diference, so chose first one), tried various resolutions and all worked., all are DX7, two of the choices are Direct 3D HAL and Direct 3D T&L HAL, I did not try those.

I also know that I ran this before on XP on a very low end system and it ran fine.

Good luck!

I've sorted it.. so far (fingers crossed)... been playing for about an hour and only had 1 crash.

I had to use the previous DirectX.. as suggested on the gog support page.

The thing is, I thought I already had it installed due to a previous gog prob, but I remembered that steam had updated it for one of my newer purchases..

Thx anyways for the reply. ;)
I'm having constant crashes, too - completely unplayable as is, unfortunately.

I've tried all the different graphics choices (DX7, my 9800 gt, etc), I've tried different resolutions, compatibility modes... I've tried installing the DirectX package GOG's support page directs you to. Nothing has fixed it.

I really hope they solve this issue soon.
I'm back to crashing again.. can't do the Temple of Shadows and that is absolutely necessary :(

Also I've found I crash constantly in Elrics house.

It's beginning to really annoy me.. yeah unplayable.
It just crashed on me for the first time after a couple of hours.
But for me it was a bit of a relief, I wasn't enjoying it at all.
The UI makes Gothics UI seem natural & fluent.
If the game has a map, I couldn't find it.
I had more fun when I was trying to get it to run, than I did playing it.
I think I know why this game was never a big seller.
But I hope those of you who are enjoying it, can sort out the crashes.

Everytime I visit Elric or Alphonse a trip that should take 1 minute tops ends up becoming a 5-10 minute exercise in patience. I just want to complete my quest or do some small shopping and be done with it, but no, the game has to crash ~15 or so times before I can get anything done.
This is draining all the will I have to play this game. This is the second unplayable game I've bought from GOG. The last game I bought, Dungeon Keeper 2, was pretty much unplayable as well. Is this the new trend here?
Yes, the game crashes a lot. And now it has a bugs, which never exist befor. For example: i can't get back to town. When I enter town gate, I loaded in the erea I try to leave.
It crashes constantly for me too entering the Uncle's cabin. Can't get past it. This is the application error:

Faulting application soulbringevcnoeax.exe, version 0.0.0.0, faulting module ai.dll, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x000383af.

Also, I can't get any combo of driver/display settings to test without crashing.

That's a pity mate..

I know ui's can have a heavy impact on some peoples enjoyment.. but if you could have put that aside (and gotten it to run properly :/) there's a pretty great game in there.
OK, peeps..

I think we've all pretty much agreed, GOG's got to go back to this game and fix it.

Considering the amount of people crash on this, it's obvious it's broken.

I've now tried it on XP and I'm getting the same errors.

I have to admit, GOG QC on this one is bad... they've dropped the ball on this release.. but I'm not going anywhere, I paid for it so I expect it fixed.

I realized belatedly that I was only altering the compatibility mode for the shortcut (which is just the game launcher). I went to the game folder and set the compatibility mode for SoulbringeVCnoeax.exe to Windows 95 mode, and I've gone 45 minutes without a crash.

It could be a fluke, too - but it's worth a shot.
Please can someone with the crashing problem try doing the following: Start a new game, enter madrigul town square for the first time, and walk straight towards and activate the stone monument. Once the player has walked over to it and the animation has completed, click on the herb partially hidden behind the stone on the left. I'm interested to see if that crashes or not.

Also, when it crashes, what's the text of the crash report? There should be a faulting module, an instruction address and the address of the accessed memory somewhere. (If the cause of the crash is the same as that herb one, it should be in ai.dll somewhere, trying to read a random bit of memory.)
