@pgoch1/GerPronouncedGrr: Good to hear. This patch should fix crashes in most of small areas related to Widescreen mod (Art Gallery / Mebbeth Hut).

@Pangaea666: Well, your exe is patched ok. I would have to remotely debug your installation to get more details. Two suggestions I can give is to clear out the temp folder in PST folder. Second is to try a different resolution. It could be that particular res has issues with your comp. I'd back up your existing installation just in case. The WS mod should let you patch your existing saved games to new res so they won't crash.

1366x768 is the native resolution on my computer (it's a laptop) so don't think there should be any problems with that. It's an odd one. Either I can play for hours without a crash, or it crashes almost right away. But I don't want to risk changing the resolution now as my saves need to be amended by the widescreen mod. The crashes isn't a big problem, so don't want to risk losing all progress.

In the torment.log file there was an error with clearing the AR0100.BIF file from cache. That is from before the hex edit was applied. Have cleared the cache folder now so hopefully that means something.

Although it has crashed a few times since applying the edit, it does seem more stable. Fantastic research scientt :)))
I started a complete new game with the mods
(took this as guide: http://www.gog.com/news/mod_spotlight_planescape_torment_mods_guide) but my game crashes randomly when changing areas like entering a house. It doesn't without the widescreen mod.

Deleting cache/temp didn't help. PS:T works fine without the widescreen mod. Couldn't force any crash no matter how often I changed the location.

I use 1280x800 as resolution.

I also followed pgoch1's instructions (for 1680x1050 resolution, though), and it seems to be completely stable now.
I entered the small tomb, old lady's hut, office of vermin etc about 15 times each without a crash.

Thanks a lot to everybody, this thread truly is precious!

System:
win xp sp3
intel core2 duo E6600
ATI Radeon HD5450 ( drivers cause ddraw problems, used ddraw fix)
I also followed pgoch1's instructions because I was continuing crash in the art gallery, now works perfectly. thanks
I just ran into the same problem after some days without any errors at all. I'm using all of the mods recommended in the PsT thread and I'm using the Widescreen mod on 1920x1080. Every time I try to leave the midwifes hut the game crashes straight back to desktop. Can someone enlighten me about the solution?

And it seems like updating to a newer version of the widescreen mod can cause problems with the savegames as far as I understand the bug-thread in this -> http://www.shsforums.net/topic/37824-please-report-crashes-here/page-12 <- forum.
I will address my problem to them over there, hoping that they might have a solution. If not, I will reinstall everything and the widescreen mod 2.20 or leave the widescreen mod out entirely.
I hope that this 3.05 problem doesn't appear in Baldur's Gate 1 / 2...

a solution might be to use this mentioned fix for the ws:
I put together a quick patcher until bigg gets around to updating his mod with fix. I won't include this as part of fixpack because it is a bug specific to his widescreen mod. Anyway, its command line interface. You just enter in x and y coordinates and it takes care of patching. You'll need to run it in the same directory as Torment.exe and as admin if you're on vista or win7. You might want to make a back up of exe just in case before patching.

At the moment it's working for me. I don't know if it's a permanent solution but it seems to work.

I installed the game a few days ago with all recommended mods and it started crashing on me not long after. I thought it was the infamous widescreen mod crash, so I uninstalled the whole game to start from scratch. Just downloaded it again to see if it works in vanilla mode, but it crashed 4 out of 5 times. I don't know what the problem is.
My system should be good enough for a game that old. So, can someone give me a heads up on what to do? Thank you.
I also bought this game yesterday and started playing it today with the preferred mods in the GOG guide installed. The game works otherwise perfectly, but it sometimes crashes when loading a new area, mostly when you are entering or exiting houses. Midwife's hut had the most issues as I couldn't at first leave the area at all without a CTD every time I tried leaving.

Then I loaded the autosave (while leaving the hut) and made a new fresh save. The game still CTD'd but after a reboot and loading the new fresh save I was able to exit the hut. In addition, the game has also crashed while entering the crypt (where you can sleep in NE Hive) and while entering the tavern/warehouse in NW Hive.

Luckily it doesn't seem to crash in the middle of an area or in dialogue mode, which would be most annoying, now the game is totally playable, just remember to save often. And wish your save won't get totally corrupted.

I installed the game to an SSD just for fun but I guess that isn't the problem as I'm also running the newest version of widescreen mod (in 1920x1080 resolution) which seemed to cause crashes while entering a new area.

If anyone has any resolve to fix this CTD issue, help would be most appreciated. Also those links to fixed .exe's on this page seem to be mostly dead.

Hi I just finished my first playthough of Planescape: Torment and half way the game i too started having problems with the midwife's hut. Getting more and more random CTD's when trying to enter it and leaving the hut, and in the end I also destroying one of my saves in that area.

First tried to just avoiding the the midwifes hut but at the Art gallery in a later area, I kept having the same problems. Bent on finding a solution I also found many dead links for fixed .exe. But in the end found a weird but simple solution, I hope it can help you as well.

I played on the 1920x1200 resolution at start, I tried lowering the resolution one step to see if the massive area of black seem to be the problems with the midwifes hut. So I went from 1920x1200 to 1680x1050 so for you it would be 1920x1080 to 1600x900 (without supporting more resolutions in the widescreen setup).

This itself did not fix the problem but after deleting all the files in

/temp
/cache

in the Main torment folder. TIP: you can also make a backup of the folders if you are afraid to break stuff.

This resets all discovered locations related to the FOG OF WAR (blackness) but it seemed to fix all random CTD I had with the midwifes hut and seemed to improve on all random CTD as well.

Looking back I think with the big resolution we pushed back the fog of war in area's we were not supposed to be able to do.

I hope this fixes you problems, and good luck Nameless-one

This seems to be a fairly common problem related to widescreen mod. I went through the entire game and had random crashes when trying to enter/exit areas every once in a while. Annoying to be sure, but nothing on the scale other players were experiencing. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I run the game at 1440x900 resolution.

What I've discovered is that this more often happened in an area I've not yet entered in my current game session and the said area was not loaded into RAM. Also areas where the entire map was uncovered due to a mod seemed to be more susceptible to CTD my game.
