I for one was already pretty pissed off by DA:O's in-game advertising of DLCs. But the immersion-breaking kickstarter fanfictions thrown in this game really take the cake. Probably been said a lot of times already, but that was a really bad decision by Obsidian, especially since the memorials and soul stories (I was like, why are there people standing around I can't talk to yet I can extract their memories like with undead in PS:T???) have no coherence with the game universe.

Bottom line, if you're gonna include fan creations in your game, make sure that they don't blatantly break immersion. Hell, a decade of Baldur's Gate npc/quest mods has shown how fans can make a game doubly the worth it was vanilla!
Disagree.
All those backer storries were pretty cool to read.

As to the tombstone things, it's pretty easy to ignore them, which I did.
It's pretty easy to ignore it all, actually. But cheer up, OP, there are people saying they're working on a mod to remove all the backer content so you'll be able to clean your game of it completely when that mod comes out.
I kinda like the soul stories, although it's frustrating that you can't interact with the characters.

The tombstones are horrible immersion-breaking crap, but they are easy to ignore (just NEVER read a tombstone. Which is kinda a shame, since in many other CRPGs they introduce some genuine humor or setting information which I usually like to discover)

I personally don't mind as I ignore most of the soul stories unless I am just faffing about in the world :)

Besides, AFAIK, none of the plot-important NPCs have this "kickstarter intrusion" , to use your words :)

Maybe, but considering they were on the brink of bankruptcy, and needed people (backers) on-side, it's also understandable.

Totally not comparable.
The soul stories are fan-written!? I don't believe Obsidian didn't at least throw in a bit of quality control. Either that or Pillars were backed by a bunch of extremely talented people. I've also never seen anything countering the lore in those either.

Yeah, I'm surprised too since they're fairly well written. They feel somewhat "out of place" but there is none of that silly "internet speak", private jokes and nonsenses that makes up 80% of the tombstones

I agree. I thought they were part of the game (I was even wondering if Avellone wrote them himself). I'm surprised to find out those were created by backers. Maybe they just wrote an outline and then people at Obsidian wrote the actual story?

As for the tombstones, they're silly but after the first one I know what to expect whenever I click a tombstone :-P

Agreed, they have to have passed a certain bench mark to make it into the game. Are we sure they don't have any relevance to the world, old events or quests? (I am not far into the game).

I'm not that far into it either, but I found that to be a cool way of figuring out something happened and I now had some kind of powers. I like that I stumbled across it myself rather than a cutscene just telling me I had powers now.

I actually felt that it was a very neat way to find out how different people live in that world, stuff they would never tell you in a dialogue (because it would make no sense)
There is something refreshing about it for sure.

Yeah.
That's usually stuff the person doesn't even know, cause it was a past life thing.
