Good evening,

I found out today that this game got an update to work more smoothly with modern hardware, so I figured it'd be a great time to play it again.
Unfortunately, the moment I open the installer, my anti-virus (ESET) first gives me a warning that it's blocking an IP address from accessing my pc, which I traced back to a Battlefield hacks group/site/thingamajig, followed by immediately quarantining/deleting a file called is-684ll.tmp from the installer during install.

What's up with this? I have never had anything remotely close to this happen with a gog game before.

How did you get / where did you find that Installer for 1.1? In my games library I see no update for Outcast. Just the "old" Windows Installer, English 2.0.0 | 1.4 GB

EDIT
Just downloaded and tried the 2.0.0 installer and got a warning by Eset NOD32, too. I attached a screenshot to this posting.

Go in your account, you will see that title for Outcast has changed with a 1.1 added.

The installer seems modified, because the file size is not the same than the previous one. (1355798 kb vs 1392125kb)
The new file is called product_bonus_38603 1,3 GB. Is this the new installer, and you can install Outcast 1.1 directly with that file? Or do you have to install the origin gog.installer first (1,4 GB)? Some information from GoG would be helpful.

I'm using ESET Nod32 too, maybe they have to update the signatures for viruses.

Oh, now I see. I honestly didn't pay attention to the title. o_O

Anyhow, the "viral issue" is posted at the forums, and I'm sure somebody will contact the support regarding this, so as an active participant of this thread I hereby retire. ;)

Happy Holidays and stuff!

I've Avira antivirus here and nothing triggered an alert....

In fact, I guess it's due to the "pre-menu" of the game which involves some "social media" thing (Facebook and Twitter) and apparently, an intro movie was launched directly from the web.

Once game is launched, t's fully offline, the x360pad is recognized and you can directly play the title in its revamped gloriness :o)

PS: Of course the 1.1 is only shown when launching the game and is not sated in the installer.
And I'm back. Yes, I'm that fast. *g*

The Problem is, due to the (hoepfully false positive) alarm we, the OP and myself, can't even install the game without deactivating the anti-virus software or defining an exception. Just in case it's an actual trojan in this installer I'll wait for another update or an official statement by GOG.

Which file do you use for installing? Windows installer 2.0.0? And what ist that file product_bonus_38603 1,3 GB for (setup_outcast_2.0.0.13.exe)? No explanation is visible.

The file "product_bonus_38603" is the old Outcast version, in case somebody preferred that one. You only need to download the main installer for the new version.

Ok, thanks for that. Very confusing this description.

I've installed it and no virus warning for me. I'm using BitDefender 2015.

Obviously I'm in bad shape today. Just read that now. The virus (or not) is in the Installer 2.0.0 which seems to install the "new" Outcast. The "product_bonus_3603" from the bonus downloads will result in a "setup_outcast_2.0.0.13.exe" which I downloaded and started installing right now. It said Outcast Classic 1.1 and so far no alarms were raised by NOD32 …

Installing finished and it started without a fuss.

Hmmm, but hhe windows installer 2.0.0. now is file setup_outcast_2.0.0.14.exe. Are you sure this is the old version?
Post edited December 18, 2014 by Delgado
No, I ninja-edited my previous posting about 40 seconds after I wrote it. ;)

Old: The bonus-file (2.0.0.13)
New: The Installer 2.0.0 (2.0.0.14) — may or may not contain malware/trojan/virus as reported by Eset NOD32.

EDIT (again)
I wish the OP would be active in this thread. o_O

GOG dropped the ball on this, so let me clarify it for them.

The new version's filename is "setup_outcast_2.0.0.14" and it's now the main installer. The old installer (which is part of the extras) should have been called "Outcast Classic" (as can be seen on the game's purchase page), but thanks to GOG failing on its quality check, it's instead called product_bonus_38603 and its filename is "setup_outcast_2.0.0.13".
