GddmnBatman: All of my friends are on steam. *cry*
I mostly play solo or with GOG friends, but I do like to visit civilized space. Get it on Steam if this is a big issue for you.

Not big enough to buy the game twice :P

I do want to participate in some of the larger civilized galactic events and what not. I was reading about the police force earlier. I'll have to see what is GOG specific.

You still see bases, discoveries by Steam users and can participate in community missions, I guess. But true MP were you do stuff together is GOG only. Add me and we can try it out. I usually play with my son :)

UK_John: Isn't EVERYBODY playing in multiplayer? There are only 2 options: Join a session or start a game where players may join you! Don't know why half the comments here say what they're saying! Like "GOG players don't play multiplayer" - well we HAVE to now!
avatar
Faust_3D: You can play off line or just set your opions to turn MP off.
I checked and you obviously didn't. There is nothing in options to turn multiplayer off! And as I say, when you start a new game you can "join a session" or you can "play the game with others maybe join your game". That's it. Try starting a new "test" game and you'll all see what I mean!

Interesting. You were able to do that before. I guess it's all MP now. What if you don't start it from Galaxy?
I guess the easiest workaround is to block it with wndows firewall.

That's the same as disconnecting from the internet. I would lose the ability to make money discovering creatures and plants, my discoveries and log page etc wouldn't update either.

I'm not sure that is true. I would imagine that hello games probably coded this game to be able to run correctly without an active internet connection, but obviously your discoveries wouldn't be sent to the cloud for others to see. ie I suspect you would still get the money and it would remember your discoveries on your own machine.
But try it out and see. I dont have it downloaded yet so I dont know.

I was also thinking of blocking incoming connections only.

I am trying all these things - but no joy. Everything I say is because I have tried it. I do have GOG Galaxy though, so I could roll the game back to 1.77 and just miss out on the solo play Beyond changes, like sitting on chairs (your feet don't reach the floor!) or milking animals, etc.....! :)
The multiplayer option is still there and able to be toggled. Not sure how you can miss the 'Network & Voice' tab under Options.

The Galaxy overlay doesn't work with NMS, either 1.2.x or 2.0. Cannot recall if it never worked wit hthe game or because it's down to Vulkan. That might be a bigger limitation in joining people from your friends list or sending invites as currently invite friends doesn't do anything.

Also, Nexus is emtpy. I've ever only ever seen one other person. Maybe better luck in other regions around the world.

Yeah, I'm not seeing anyone either. I'm not even sure I'm connected, it seems to be stuck on "connecting to online discovery services". Pre-Beyond if I had a stable connection, it would read "connected". Also, I don't see anyone online in the join a game menu.
I would love to join but Beyond is just not working for me. Bad graphics and missing controls. I'm calling unplayable ATM.

Vulkan isn't that good for me. The graphics are glitchy. I tried it on 1.77 but changed back to OpenGL. That doesn't appear to be an option for Beyond. It's not unplayable but my impression is that Vulkan ain't all that.

I thought that was for network and voice. Didn't think it was all about multiplayer/solo play options, which is what it should have been called. And the two opening options lead you to believe there isn't anything else. So I take it as a compliment that you was surprised I didn't see it; because I didn't.
Hey. I look on the bright side. The game is just about unplayable but.... I can sit in a chair. 10/10 would sit in a chair again!
