lordhoff: So, this isn't Gothic-only? It can be done with other older games? Lost all save games once in "Total War" which I think is as old as Gothic I. Is there a site which explains how to do this because, I have a lot of older games.
No, it's a widespread epidemic. ☺

Can affect even relatively modern games like Hearts of Iron III.

Some options :

- install games into other folders eg c:\games or
- check the save folder(s) for the game(s) in the Virtual Store (may have to enable 'show hidden files') or
- disable UAC (generally not recommended).

If you do a web search you should find some tech pages that can point you in the right direction

Prekart: Move GOTHIC konfigurations (.INI) folder to desktop (This so I am able to save my changes)

Arkose: You need to edit the VirtualStore version of the file, not the one in Program Files. You'll find the correct file here:

%localappdata%\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Gothic\system

Enter that path in a folder address bar or whatever and you'll go right to it. The VirtualStore version can be edited directly without workarounds. Make the same changes there and they should work as expected.
Thanks for the reply. I might have been a bit unclear with my proceedings but I am unfortunatly making the changes to that very file, without success. Will keep trying until I get it. I will post a followup as soon as I get it running in case there are more n00bs such as myself with the same problem! =)
You guys where correct!

How I did it:
1. Install the game OUTSIDE of the programme files (x86) folder. I.e. C:/Games/Gothic this will avoid any administrator problems you may get (at least in may case).
2. Tweak your gothic.ini file (Dont know if this step is realy necessary?)
3. Open up editor and copy paste entire ini file with your new inputs.
4. Save as .txt NOT .ini (thats where I got it wrong). I.e. gothic.txt. Save in the gothic/system folder.
5. Open editor and write your .bat file. In my case:

copy gothic.txt gothic.ini /Y
gothic.exe
exit

6. Save as gothic.bat in gothic/system folder.
7. Start game from gothic.bat file

Happy gaming

Turns out to be the very same solution in other words I suppose but there you have it. Thanks to Arkose and Kezardin for the help!
It is suggested here that the GOG version of Gothic 3 has the community patch (1.6.) The post, from last year also mentions an upcoming 1.75 version of the patch. The gamecard page lists the version installed by GOG as 1.75, so does this mean the GOG version is patched with Community Patch 1.75? What of Gothic and Gothic II? Could the information here be updated? It would be much appreciated.

Anyone have a download link for the Gothic 2 Graphic Overhaul Mod? All the links provided by don't seem to work.

http://forum.worldofplayers.de/forum/threads/1145749-G2-MOD-Vurt-s-Gothic-II-Graphics-Overhaul

NVM Took awhile but finally got one of the download links to work. The bayfile one.

chautemoc: Unlock framerate (Gothic)
After installing the Player Kit, download and install the patch above to unlock the framerate from 25fps to whatever your machine can handle. Should provide a much more smooth gameplay experience.
how is this installed and where does it go?
for Gothic 1 BTW

See here for directions. You must install the Player-Kit before the FPS Patch.

there are no directions on how to install and where to install FPS
NM I found out just double click the FPS icon and find the Gothic.mod located in Gothic/Systems folder (you have to find where you have installed Gothic yourself)

After I apply the FPS patch I have this problem where whenever I fall down a steep slope or hill I get stuck on the side and have to reload the game

And I also cannot climb up walls that are higher than me.
He will look up as if you can climb it but then just jump in the air
I tried doing this without the FPS patch and I am not having these problems

I have tried reinstalling everything but it does the same thing
The "natures fury" mod on moddb is worth checking out

Really nice IMO, seems to work fine with GOG version barring some very occasional dialogue glitches that dont really affect gameplay.
My recommendation for anyone playing gothic 1 on win7 with AMD radion card is to create a profile for gothic in catalyst which forces vsync, this seems to override the games built in FPS limit. This seems alot more stable than using the gothicmod.exe with patches. Also forcing 4xAA works a treat as well.

So you've installed and played the mod? What are your two cents? Does it erase the main quest or add to it (the description isn't very clear)?

Did you use it with the community patch?

It adds new content, the original plot remains. I did not install any other patch.
I think gothic 3 now comes with the fan patch on gog, it says enhanced edition from the get go with v1.74 at the top
Gothic II Gold keeps crashing. I can find NO patches for ver. 2.7 nor can I get in touch with GOG to help solve this issue, I am PISSED beyond believe that their so-called "CONTACT" link takes me in circles and I get nowhere except a couple of forums where there is no information on this particular issue. I'm getting fed up with GOG and the fact that they have insulated themselves from their customers...their customers who gave them MONEY just to have the right to suffer through problems.
